Kantara (2022)
Marvellous and outstanding !
No words can describe the movie completely and do justice to the excellent work spanning across all departments. Everyone involved in the movie left very little room for errors or patchy display as seen in most movies these days. It was sad to see movie being given very few screens in Bangalore on the opening day. More shows were added over the weekend, thanks to the reviews and word of mouth from the audience. I had no hope for Kannada cinema few years ago as most of the scripts had same old stories, loud mouthed heroes and filth pushing them to score decently. Rishab Shetty has taken time to mature and become an ace in the industry today. All the writers have mixed well to generate a proper script that does justice to the regional priorities and the beliefs. Cinematography is really good without any vfx or over the head shots. Direction and acting stand tall across all segments and keep you on the toes throughout the run. Don't miss the movie as it has a very good message to all the humans and takes you back in time to trigger few basic questions we need to ask today from each other.
Sharapanjara (1971)
Forgotten gem of Kannada cinema like many others
This movie was way ahead of its time like many other movies during the same period. I am still surprised to know many people who speak the language haven't watched this movie. This is a must match movie for all age groups with everyone involved with the movie being at their best to gift a proper gem to the Kannada cinema industry. Credit should also goto the novelist Triveni as well, who influenced Kanagal to a great extent in his early days. Go watch this movie as this one is a must watch at least before you die.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Old School & Kick ass action
In the age of CGI and green screen cinematography, top gun II brings back old school filmmaking with stunts that are as real as it gets. The story and screenplay are kept clean to allow the flying sequences and action stunts to do most of the talking on the screen. All the supporting cast is near, precise and clean. The ending is really good and unexpected as you start thinking of different scenarios while the movie enters the climax sequence. I wish more actors and directors would go back to old school films where audience are not overdosed with CGI and chroma keying. If you loved top gun 1, I can guarantee that you will love this even more. I also think Tom Cruise will not do one more top gun in this lifetime.
Panchayat (2020)
An Absolute gem from India on Web + TV
This show will bring back the best of creativity, writing, direction and screenplay as in the 90's. Other than jeetendra kumar & Sanvika, rest of the cast delivers 10/10 on acting as most of them are from NSD alma mater and made for these types of raw roles. Deepak's direction is very underrated and In my view he is turning out to be one of the best directors I have seen over the past 4 years where he brings back the collectiveness of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu chatterjee nostalgia. All in all, a stellar show which will leave you with well scripted dialogues and thoughts to ponder with the life in rural India. Lead: Jeetendra still has some way to go be a top actor and he seems to be on the right track to deliver Amol palekar'esque acting in the near future.
Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi (2019)
Niche, Apt and creative
I came across this as I was planning to collect all movies that are related to death, rituals and traditions in India. The story and screenplay of the movie grows on you like an old scotch. Direction is to the point. Production values are to the T.
I love the conflict between the modern thoughts Vs traditions which is very well put and timed for comedy.
The only negative is the pace. It gets too difficult to keep track of the characters and the essence as the pace keepings going in different directions throughout the movie.
