The Foot Fist Way (2006)
drama and comedy are close, this is a drama
at least thats my view. i do not consider this movie a comedy at all. sure it has some funny scenes. but most of it makes you despise the main character even more. and still at the end you see the core of him being real. it's great how the director manages to make this turn plausible. i wasn't aware of the low budget nature of the movie till i read the reviews here. it really doesn't hurt it. and the acting is absolutely adequate. in conclusion: it's a great film about real live (similar to andreas dresen's movies about German life). it sure hurts but still can't be denied. maybe you just have to like this kind of movie. i sure did.
I Am Legend (2007)
America in need of faith
There's one big thing I can't stand in movies. And that's when the plot relies on pure faith of the protagonists. And thats what happened here. I don't want to be told to believe in god and my life will turn out good. Apart from that the movie had some potential, but well, they f***** it up. The image of being alone in Manhatten has it's appeal. But you would get lonely very fast. That part is very nicely portrayed in the flick. And now I have to write some more nonsense to fill those ten mandatory lines. Well, the zombies look a bit like Gollum. Maybe the cgi-models were available for cheap. And this was the first movie with product placement for a new semi-automatic gun.
Afro Samurai (2007)
Can't understand the hype
Well the drawing is good, the style is modern, the blood is plenty. But that doesn't make a good show. The story has been told a hundred times, the sidekick sucks with his constant babbling, and the actors' afro American slang makes it just another show using this prejudice to look stylish. In short: nothing original, but nice to look at. Because IMDb forces me to: I almost constantly had the feeling the creator watched too much Tarantino movies, especially Kill Bill. Which would be very convenient because another one did the collection of classic references for you. And partly I was reminded of another really great show: Samurai Jack. That's an example for original and greatly designed.
Wo hu cang long (2000)
Couldn't make me like it
I just saw Tiger&Dragon as it is called in Germany. Not liking martial-art films so far I was very curious if this movie could show me the opposite. But it could not. It's a rather flat story an the stunts are ridiculous.
This movie may be good in comparison with others of this genre but it is not by its own.
