The Ark (2023)
I think it's good
I didn't even know this show was on, but I caught it and binged it On Demand. Happily, it will get a second season!
I was not happy that most of the crew perished from the get go. That set the tone but hey, yeah, it is SYFY and well... heh. They are set up for failure from the start, and it is going to be a major struggle, which makes the show....
One thing I notice, which saddens me, is that these are people on arcs to leave a dying earth. They should be picked at least for ability to get along! That does get ironed out, for the most part. They have pretty good experts, and I think the acting is good.
What IS shocking tho, is that the people on Arc15 are trying to kill everyone else. Maddox is a MONSTER and Trust's wife was also a monster. I can not fathom WHY they'd do this. It makes NO sense at all, unless something is going to happen that unites these crews.
30 Monedas (2020)
SUBTITLES
Season One was OK with the subtitles, but there wasn't SO MUCH action that absolutely had to be seen. What was going on was pretty clear cut.
I saw just one episode of season two and well, there are non humans in it and it is hard to see exactly what they are, or what they are doing. They look like demons, So, I need time to really see them, look at what the are, what they look like. The dialogue is a lot and spoken quite fast. There is not enough time for me to read the subtitles, which unfortunately, are printed up small.
Someone elsewhere said they saw a DUBBED version of this. Now, where can I see that?
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (2023)
THE LANGUAGE PROBLEM
I gave it a 3 because I get to understand what I am hearing about 30% of the entire show.
The accents require me to use captions. Then there are the HATED subtitles with dialogue that is so fast that the subtitles whizz by before I can fully read them, requiring me to rewind and rewind. This makes watching this a royal chore.
I can not read and watch action at the same time, and there is a LOT of action. So, one MORE rewind. I had to read recaps to grasp entirely what was going on, who the various factions were. I never had to do that with the other TWD shows.
This kind of "chore of watching" did not happen with ANY of the other TWD shows. Did the people making this consider that people don't all have perfect eyesight to read the subtitles? Did they THINK that all of this was going to make this long awaited Daryl show difficult? Did they even once understand that the accents would be hard to understand?
This should have been a joy to watch; I love Daryl. But they made it a chore. I am SO glad that Carol will be in the next season, but I hope it is NOT IN FRANCE. Or if it is,they let go of the need for the subtitles and improve those deep accents so we can WATCH the action, the people, their expressions, understand clearly what is being said; everything that has gone into making all TWD so good.
The Lazarus Project (2022)
ENUNCIATON!
I have watched 4 episodes of this now. I will still give it a chance.
The show is all over the place. 3 story lines now with 1 broken heart, 2, seeking revenge and 3 George who lost his wife because he did not remember that the guy that got bad financial advice from George pushed her in front of a buss. Now George wants to make a deal with a bad guy so he can get this set back.
The major issue I have with this so far mediocre show is that it is bad enough the accents are hard for me to understand, especially when they speak too softly, but George is almost impossible to understand. He mumbles. I do not want to have to use captions.
In the old days actors spoke clearly, their enunciation was clear. And oh they avoided the hell called subtitles that force you to READ a show instead of watch it. They used fake accents instead.
Now they advertise it as "will he risk the world to save the woman he loves" oh dear. I don't expect this export from SKY productions to last more than 1 season.
Well, update, he got his girl back and she dumped him. Paapa Essiedu (George) seems to go out of his way to speak without moving his lips, which are mostly hanging open. Always too soft. HORRIBLE ACTOR. 90% impossible to understand when he speaks. They picke3d the wrong actor for any lead role. Awful.
Thomas Markle: My Story (2020)
Thomas Markle is a liar!
And for the truth, not daddy's bs
What went down with Thomas Markle and the wedding. As we've seen, he keeps calling up the press and selling interviews and photos, claiming that Meghan's been ignoring him. Meghan's friends call bullsh-t. With specifics.
TEXTS SHOW Meg was desperate to get in touch with him. Yeah, he did what HATEFUL Sam told him to do, knowing that Sam always hated Meg. OK.
The Saturday before the wedding, Meg and Harry were told that a story was going to come out the next day saying that Tom was staging pictures with the paparazzi. Lainey: which he ended up admitting. Their team told them that if the story was fake, they could file a complaint.
So Meg calls Tom and asks him, and he's swearing up and down that it's not true. The next day the pictures come out. Even with all that, Meghan and Harry were still so focused on getting him to London. At no point was there talk of "Now that we know he lied, he's in trouble". Tom wouldn't take her calls, wouldn't take Harry's calls.
The next morning when the car got there to take him to the airport, he wouldn't get in. Later Meg heard he had a heart attack and she's calling and texting, even up to the night before the wedding. It was like, "Please pick up. I love you and I'm scared". It was endless. After the wedding she wrote him a letter. Queen told her to.
She wrote him a letter. Well Thomas Markle certainly never mentioned that - not in his interviews with Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain or the Daily Mail for the Sun. All he ever says is that she's ghosted him. But there was a letter.
She's like, "Dad, I'm so heartbroken. I love you. I have one father. Please stop victimizing me through the media so we can repair our relationship". Because every time her team has to come to her and fact-check something he has said, it's an arrow to the heart. He writes her a really long letter in return, and he closes it by requesting a photo op with her. And she feels like, "That's the opposite of what I'm saying. I'm telling you I don't want to communicate through the media, and you're asking me to communicate through the media. Did you hear anything I said?" It's almost like they're ships passing. He knows how to get in touch with her. Her telephone number hasn't changed. He's never called; he's never texted.
Remember, Thomas Markle's sob story has been that he keeps trying to contact her and she won't answer. So who's lying here? Meghan and her friends or the dude who already lied about staging pap photos and who's always getting his close-up on TV?
Most rational people out there probably already saw the grossness in Thomas Markle's behaviour. This, though, is the first deliberate refutation of his claims. The upside is that Meghan's circle is getting to address the f-ck sh-t that's been happening recently. The downside? Thomas Markle is going to dial up his friends at the Daily Mail and the Sun and Piers Morgan and they're not going to ask him the tough questions and challenge him - it doesn't serve their purpose. So, probably by the weekend, we'll be hearing from him again. And then a fresh wave of mess will be upon us.
He goes on another video in 2023 with hateful jealous Sam, who he knows hates Meghan, and his son, moaning "how can I fix this" and does he think Meghan even knows there was a video? Supposedly his last one? HA. Guarantee that Meghan did not see it, probably does not even know it was made. But one sight of that hateful child-abusing Sam and well, guarantee she'd not watch it.
UpdateL Tom ALSO lied about this
Tom Markle lied about paying for ALL of her education:
The full details of the work that went into allowing the duchess to get a university education came out in papers filed in her case against U. K. tabloid the Mail on Sunday.
A filing by Meghan's lawyers last week read: "Mr Markle did not pay for all of Meghan's college tuition. Meghan's mother also contributed towards her university costs.
"In addition, Meghan received *scholarships* for academic achievement, which reduced the payable tuition fees. Meghan also undertook a work-study program whereby income she made from working on campus after class was applied directly to supplement and lower her tuition costs, thus personally contributing to her tuition as well."
The Last of Us (2023)
Same Old
This can not compare to Z Nation on SYFY where Murphy had to be escorted by a band of very lovable characters with witty ideas in episodes and even funny moments. Combine that with Walking Dead which tops this series by a mile. To think,HBO took "Raised by Wolves" one of the most unique sci fi series ever, and put this tired bilge on instead? Pfff.
NONE of the characters so far in this series sticks. I can't even remember their names. The little savior girl is too bratty. Who the various factions are is not clear at all.
I want HBO to replace this tired same old thing series, same old, but NOT up to par, with the unique and wonderful Raised with Wolves.
Hellraiser (2022)
They missed the entire heavy point
The original Hellraiser, especially the second movie in the series, was HEAVY. The spiritual element was clear cut: "IT IS NOT HANDS THAT OPENS THE BOX, IT IS DESIRE." When a mentally disabled kid opened the box, the head Cenlobite refused to take her because she had no desire to open it. She wasn't even afraid of the Cenobites but just looked at them, like "uh, hello?" Her hands opened the box, she had no DESIRE for any of it.
To anyone familiar with esoteric concepts, the original dealt with types of people known as "klippoth" that came upon this puzzle. Desire is what opened the puzzle box and hence they got thrown into the Cenobite world. Aka Hell.
Leviathan shown as that black diamond also has familiarity in esoteric tradition. There are no words for how HEAVY the original was. I don't think anything was ever made quite like that. This "Obic" tradition is written about at least in one book, "the Dark Traditition - Dark Doctrines" by Tani Jantsang. It is explained, it does not tell anyone how to DO any of this (thank goodness).
This new movie, starting with a guy sacrificing an innocent in order to get a boon, and then later a completely innocent person gets taken, is far from the original concept set forth in the original movies. This is not a spoiler because it happens right at the beginning.
They never had to redo Hellraiser. Of course, it is not nearly as good and not heavy at all.
Let the Right One In (2022)
certain parts are dreary
The whole arc with Clair and Peter is dreary. Finding a cure for vampirsm? And Peter, unlike Eleanor is in constant pain? Why not just expose him to full on sun and let him die.
I don't quite get why Eleanor's father seems to be looking for another vampire. Does he think that ending the vamp that bit her will cure her? She is not a ravenous monster in constant pain, like Peter. Why not go out into the world and try to find other vampires, like was done in the Anne Rice stories?
I like the friendship between Eleanor and that little magician. He is so friendly and happy and to see those brats bully him is awful.
Vampire Academy (2022)
Of course not verbatum books, but EXCELLENT
I think Richelle would be happy with this, even proud of it. It is an excellent series, and yes, I read the books including the spin off. I hope there are many seasons to come! PLEASE!! The movie they made was a disgrace, too much shoved into too short a time. NOT feasible.
I see some petty reviews by so called fans saying that Rose is the wrong ethnicity but really? Or oh, the actor playing Dmitri is not Russian? Really? They have to find an actress with the exact ethnicity? That is ridiculous! The actors are all great, the whole series so far is great.
Anyone saying it should be pulled off should just turn their TV off and not watch it. DO NOT DEPRIVE US OF THE JOY.
Star Trek: Hidden Frontier (2000)
Astonishingly excellent!
This series, 7 seasons of it, is excellent. Angeles actually comes before it, episodes available on youtube and that oe starts just at the end of the Dominion War. Hidden Frontier is incredibly good and it gets better season after season.
