Very true to the original
13 March 2014
Disclaimer: This review is based exclusively on the first episode.

First things first. Audience of the original by Carl Sagan may be disappointed by this remake. It's almost exactly the same as the original, word by word. But with cheaper production methods, brighter colors and crisper sound. Most importantly, it's without Carl Sagan and Vangelis' excellent music. Also, the stuff covered is not as amusing to the grown up audience who had the pleasure of enjoying the original. You already know this stuff.

However, the qualities Cosmos presented to us in 1980, are still the same. It's a very inspiring series well suited to kickstart a young mind into independent critical thinking, curiosity and appreciation of science. The pace and presentation have been changed to better suit todays young, and older audience may not appreciate this. The pace is however still comfortably relaxed compared to other TV material aimed towards the same audience, making me think they will have a very similar experience to the own we had all those years ago. But this series is for the young, and I'm sure it has all the qualities the original had needed when it comes to trigger their curiosity, fascination and generally change the way they see themselves and the world they live in. Personally I think Tyson does a great job walking in Sagans footsteps.

Adults with much knowledge about our world criticizing the series for being shallow and bring few new details to the original don't impress me at all. They have misunderstood the whole point of this series, which is all about creating enthusiasm for science among the younger. Not updating adult geeks on the very latest on string theory.

Adults may not learn a lot, but you will be entertained. For the younger, this has the potential to be the same amazing ride as it was for us 35 years ago.

Shameless anti Israel propaganda and a very dull movie
29 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is about the gunner in an Israel army tank during the Lebanon. The gunner is an pacifist who rather see his fellow soldiers massacred by terrorist rather then opening fire. Apart from that the movie is unrealistic, slow and boring. The only reason many like this movie is it's obvious anti Israel theme. The message seems to be that if you choose to surrender to terrorism you're a good guy. I'm sure that's why it receives so high rankings in Europe. Boring, stupid and provocative.

The perspective is all from inside the tank, and most of the time we see the world trough the eyes of the gunners sights. This is achieved by putting crap sound effects acting as the turret servos, a black frame around the picture and a crosshair. This is not very well done and technically speaking and the whole movie is obviously a very low budget production. The realism when it comes to tank warfare is close to zero.

Great art, terrible entertainment
23 January 2007
This movie tell it's story in its own amazing style, so I agree that it may be classified as "art". Cinematografy is very sharp indeed. If you however watch movies for entertainment, and not to analyze the artistic element, then this movie is nothing but utter crap. As a 5 minute short movie its very characteristic style and story would do very well indeed. But dwelling on the same point for 91 minutes is simply stretching it way to far. You get the idea after a few minutes, then you have to suffer for the rest of the movie enduring the absolute nothingness of it all. If you are hoping for some sort of punchline in the end you will be very disappointed also. Totally boring from start to end. I give this movie a score of 2 rather then 1 because of very tidy camera-work etc. Granted, there are content stimulating your intellect, but not enough to justify this 91 minute fever nightmare with its near stop speed. If you're a common movie watcher and do not care about poetry, fine art or similar, then this movie is definitely not for you. If you however enjoy movies like Mulholland Drive and similar, you will possibly like this one to, even if it is not half as complex.
