I missed it.

well obviously I'm in the minority here, but I was very disappointed with this film after having great anticipation. To me it was a total cartoon of real emotion, overplayed and overhyped. I could barely find an honest emotion within any of the characters but apparently I've been outvoted.

Emotional, well acted and Condon did a fantastic directorial job. This shows how important a director with a vision is to a picture something that is lost in the morass of the American marketplace as Studios somehow think that an "auteur" is a bad thing. Hoory for this.

great try

An epic film meaning to be like the grand epics of Lean, etc. but missing the heart and real drama of those films. Everyone is game, the photography is amazing, the directing is good, but it is a shell that disappointingly misses the mark for me. I like the inention at least.

good attempt

Julian Schnabel who has shown himself to be an exceptional artist didn't surprise me with the fact that he has it in him to be an exceptional director. I don't think this will be his best film, (I have seen his latest yet), but there are moments of beauty and genius here, although I believe the story is more about Schnabel than his intended subject.

wow

a langurous beauty of a film shot masterfully and handled with imperfect perfection by Kusturica. The cast doesn't get any better and this is the kind of cinema that makes me yearn to live in other countries where culture allows for something this rich and alive to be part of the popular offerings.

Novocaine (2001)
huh?

thank goodness for the cast in this directorial mishmosh that only seems to work because of Laura Dern and Steve Martin giving it their all and a great little turn by Kevin Bacon. Flashbacks and narration try to make up for slipshod directing these wonderful actors who I think my pet gerbil could've directed. Luckily through spit, glue, and either the editor, studio or producers, the film staggers to the end. Maybe some people will find this edgy and funny. For me, only the actors kept me in my seat.

great movie

One of the best movies I've ever seen. A perfect example of an overlooked film that is too complex and beautiful for American cinema goers. In fact I thought it was made by a European.
