End of Watch is a 2009 film where we as an audience follow the life of two LAPD officers Brian and Mike.
I don't even know where to begin. This is a criminally underrated film. I don't understand why it isn't talked about much. The entire movie is shot in documentary style with a ton of handheld shots and occasional overhead view of the scene. Extreme closeups, dynamic camerawork, incredible acting and action sequences really makes it feel like a real life documentary.
The cinematography is mind blowing and perfectly fits the script which is also quite incredible and detailed.
I only wanted to watch it for Jake Gyllenhaal who is one of my favourite actors. But the film had so much to surprise me. The chemistry between Brian (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Mike (Micheal Pena) is so good.
It's very well thought out and insanely executed in every aspect. I don't know how accurate the depiction of police officers here is but it feels so real and visceral throughout. All the dialogues, action and humour is on point.
You can feel the threat and danger always lurking around the main characters as they find themselves in the middle of a series of crimes and something much bigger catches up with them in the find act.
I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it.
