End of Watch (2012)

Criminally Underrated Cop Drama
1 November 2023
End of Watch is a 2009 film where we as an audience follow the life of two LAPD officers Brian and Mike.

I don't even know where to begin. This is a criminally underrated film. I don't understand why it isn't talked about much. The entire movie is shot in documentary style with a ton of handheld shots and occasional overhead view of the scene. Extreme closeups, dynamic camerawork, incredible acting and action sequences really makes it feel like a real life documentary.

The cinematography is mind blowing and perfectly fits the script which is also quite incredible and detailed.

I only wanted to watch it for Jake Gyllenhaal who is one of my favourite actors. But the film had so much to surprise me. The chemistry between Brian (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Mike (Micheal Pena) is so good.

It's very well thought out and insanely executed in every aspect. I don't know how accurate the depiction of police officers here is but it feels so real and visceral throughout. All the dialogues, action and humour is on point.

You can feel the threat and danger always lurking around the main characters as they find themselves in the middle of a series of crimes and something much bigger catches up with them in the find act.

I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it.

An Excellent Film
25 July 2023
This is the first film of Jim Sheridan that I have seen and it was exellent. From the crazy opening sequence I knew I was in for a treat. This film gets straight to the point to tell the story in most honest way possible. It starts with a bang and maintains a good momentum throughout its runtime. Daniel Day Lewis gives one of his best performances in the role of Gerry Conlon. Characters in the film feel very real and the performance from the entire cast was amazing. The cinematography is really good too. Some of the shots in the film, especially the prison sequences, are beautiful. The editing fits the film perfectly. I also liked the soundtrack. This film is an example of how to tell a story in a manner that makes the audience feel the reality and brutality of the situations that the characters are going through.

Dirty Harry (1971)
8/10
A Clint Eastwood Masterpiece
29 April 2023
Dirty Harry is a very "Clint Eastwood film" to say the least. It gives the audience exactly what it promises (a mystery, thriller with some action). The story is set in San Fransisco in the 70s and really treats the place as a character. I was really amazed by its excellent cinematography with lots of overhead and aerial shots that adds a feeling of tension and danger. The early scenes (especially the bank robbery scene) do a pretty good job at establishing the tone of the film as well as it's protagonist, Inspector Callahan (Clint Eastwood). The character of Scorpio is somewhat inspired by the infamous Zodiac killer of San Fransisco. Overall I really enjoyed this film and would highly recommend it to a Clint Eastwood fan such as myself.

Gone Girl (2014)
7/10
A Great Film Gone Wrong.
3 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Being a David Fincher film Gone Girl had me invested in the story from the very first scene. Fincher always uses colors to convey the mood and atmosphere and does so effectively in this film as well. The sound design is also pretty good. Rosamund Pike is obviously the star in the crime thriller but the rest of the cast could have been better in my opinion. Even Ben Affleck's performance felt very blank. Neil Patrick Harris was also a weird choice for the role of Desi Collings. Carrie Coon as Margo Dunne and Kim Dickens as the Detective were amazing.

The story is very unpredictable which makes it exciting to watch. The pace and editing also prevents it from feeling to long or boring.

SPOILERS : However it consists of various plot holes, the biggest one being the fact that the police officers accept Amy's story even though Desi had house by the lake had surviellance everwhere and so there would be no footage of her being sexually assualted. Amy's can be easily recognised in her new look. Her plotting is given away to soon so we are following her around for most part. The cops behave in a very non-professional manner given that they are dealing with a possible murder case. Detective Rhonda seemes to be the only one with some brains. Amy not being arrested for a murder with very little evidence to support her story was the most unrealistic part of the entire film.

The hypocritic nature of media and people was the good part. The stupidity of general public and media seems very real life based.

Not a good Jim Carrey film.
1 April 2022
This film is filled with overhead narration to summarize key plot points and treat the audience like kids. I always like films that follow the principle of SHOW DON"T TELL. Many of the characters are just plain and the comedy doesn't land sometimes.

Jim Carrey gives a fine performance, but it's not his best. Renee Zellweger as Irene was also fine, sometimes her character was irritating to watch. By the end of the film, I realized that majority of the characters weren't funny at all. Jim Carry's character has split personality disorder which drives the whole story.

It was fun to see him switch between Charlie and Hank early on but it quickly became repetitive. Of all Jim Carrey's movies, this one would be at the bottom of the list for me.

The Batman (2022)

The Batman is a Masterpiece!
23 March 2022
I watched The Batman in 4DX. This was my first time watching a Batman film in the theatre and the first time experiencing 4DX. It was THE most incredible Batman film I've watched.

Matt Reeves and his team did a wonderful job in every aspect of the film.

His approach to Batman is very fresh and unique. He also wrote the screenplay for the movie with Peter Craig(I didn't know that).

The Bruce Wayne in this film deals with his past trauma in different way than the other iterations. He is filled with pure vengeance.

The casting is just perfect. Robert Pattinson kills it as Batman. Zoe Kravitz delivers a stunning perfomance as Catwoman(the best catwoman in my opinion). Colin Ferrel is unrecognizable as The Penguin. He made the car chase sequence so much better with his perfomance. And Paul Dano just scrared the crap out of me. Jeffrey Wright's Gordan is much more involved in the story.

The 2 things that I genuinly love about the film other than the casting choices is its beautiful cinematography and mind blowing sound design.

Greig Fraser just nailed each and every shot. I felt so much immersed in the film, paticulalrly the action sequences. It was refreshing to see a superhero film that didn't look so bad.

Michael Giacchino's score for the batman is suprisingly very hopeful.

I just wished his music was used a liitle more carefully as it felt repetitive for some reason.

There have been many batman films, maybe because it is one the best comic book charater ever written, but anyone who loves Batman or just loves good films should watch this film.

Venom (2018)

Good but not that great
30 January 2022
I was really excited to see Venom in live-action after watching the trailer. The movie has a style that was fresh and new and so my first viewing was great. Tom Hardy is amazing at playing Eddie Brock and Venom.

How he voiced the character was just great.

The movie has a lot of good action sequences and some not so good action sequences. Riot was a very poor villain in my opinion and Riz Ahmed had very little to play with the character given how talented he is.

Also, the CGI Venom looks very cool but Riot, on the other hand, looks like he's a video game character. The final battle was a poor sequence and boring to watch as compared to the reat of the film.

Tom Hardy is very entertaining to watch and is the main reason I love this film.

A bad SPIDERMAN film!
29 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Spider Far From Home is a BAD Spider-Man film.

Stark just decided to give EDITH (something that controls drones of such dangerous powers) to a 16-year-old kid after his death. Yes this is where the movie goes downhill for me.

And that kid almost ends up killing one of his classmates. In the whole film, peter is trying to impress MJ who he suddenly likes after coming back from the snap.

There is no relationship built between them in the first film so I don't really care about it now. Also, this MJ is not given a great arc. Flash is once again just a joke in this film and not a person close to peter like in the comics. I never liked the character of Ned Leeds. Betty White in this film is also very disposable.

The blip is also treated as a joke in this film. No one is shown to face any kind of Trauma, PTSD or any consequences of the snap.

Once again a Spider-Man villain is created by Tony Stark. Mysterio has only one good scene in the movie.

Peter does not face any consequences in this film. He just saves a day like any other superhero (that's not Spider-Man).

Not a good SUPERHERO movie!
29 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
All I can say about Shang Chi is that it is something fresh.

The actions sequences are very well choreographed. The music is pretty good and the performance of the cast does not disappoint.

Ben Kingsley as Trevor is a total waste of the actor's potential.

Marvel once again does not give a proper arc to the villain and so I felt nothing for him (and even Shang Chi) when he dies at the end.

The main problem with the movie is that it does not give a good motive for Shang Chi to become a superhero.

The film (like most superhero movies nowadays) is focused more on the SUPER part of the character than the HERO).

A Must Watch!
14 January 2022
Had a blast with this one. Ghostbusters Afterlife is one of the most entertaining films of 2021.

The one thing that I was really liked was the amazing sound design of the film. The movie never made me look of the screen for a second.

The pacing and editing is very good. Some of the scenes gave me goosebumps.

Phoebe is the heart of this film. I also liked Podcast, he was a fun character. Can't say that about Trevor and Lucky. I didn't really cared about what happend between them. Paul Rudd as Mr. Grooberson does a lot with what he's given.

Overall Ghostbusters Afterlife is a great supernatural comedy one could watch.

RIP Harold. :)

Eternals (2021)
1/10
Worst MCU film till date.
12 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film the WORST MCU film I've seen so far.

It gives the most stupid reason for why The Eternals never interfere in human conflict, why they never fought in New York, never fought in Sokovia, didn't do anything when Thanos wiped out half the universe.

Reason: They were secretly paving the way for the Emergence.

Phastos paved the way for human innovation NOT HUMANS!

This movie does a lot of explaining and shows very little. Also, the pacing of the film makes very boring to watch.

The wedding of Sersi and Ikaris takes place in India during the Gupta Period. It's an Indian wedding and they are KISSING each other. This goes to show how little the writers actually thought about the culture, religion, and civilization as a whole.

There is a scene in the film where Phastos's son calls Ikaris "Superman". So he reads DC Comics. According to that logic he must have read Marvel comics as well. Why would why read a comic that has characters who read comics? Why would I invest myself in a story that reminds me that I'm reading a story?

And don't why marvel focuses so much on humor that even in the action sequences I don't feel scared for the characters at all.

The CGI in the film is so bad I can easliy tell which sequence is real and which is fake. That's one of the problems with Marvel that it relies too much on Visual Effects. Everything is FAKE!
