Great Effort!
24 December 2009
Considering the fact, that at the start of almost every Fantasy/ Sci-Fi movie I think 'I am I really suppose to buy this?', this film did a reasonably good job, and what it lacked in dialogues and wittiness, it sure did make up for it in special effects and action sequences. The story-line and the romantic theme are cheesy but the movie is a lot more than just the predictable sequences. The philosophical aspect of the movie is not something everyone can relate to, though the effort sure deserves an applause. But the real core of the film is the world created, truly exceptional and mesmerizing, and setting a new benchmark for Sci-Fi/Adventure Films.

Memento inspired.....really?
4 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Well.......before the release of the film all I had heard was that it is inspired by Memento considering the whole memory loss and the tattoos. Well I has seen Memento and loved it. Never the less I gave Ghajini a chance. When I sat down to see it, I expected to see some thriller but instead it turned out to be a disappointment. I think no one should expect a hardcore thriller because it's not even close. It's a romantic film masquerading as a thriller. The trailers which promised a thrill didn't. Although one can say that it was a good film as far as the romantic part is concerned. The 'plot device'- short term memory loss with the theme could have done wonders but it seemed it had only been used to start and then sum up the entire film. It seemed shallow to my expectations and Aamir Khan certainly did not live up to his expectations. The only reason it grossed so well in India is because the Indian audience appreciate romantic films and does not care if the film has depth or not (Exeptions not counted). So, people saw romance with a new theme and there goes another hit! Never the less , performances were above average and the story line went fine.

Some points just remained touched- Like what is his daily routine like? What happens to him after his has killed the murderer? Will He still have a purpose in life? And if he remembers only parts of the incident then why is he always angry or irritated or blunt? Shoudn't he be a little to the 'normal' side considering he knows he has short term memory loss?

People really shouldn't compare Memento and Ghajini. Memento is a thriller, is philosophical and 'deep'. Ghajini on the other had has an entirely different story, theme remaining the same, is a film that tries to tell a story about 'love'.

Unbelievable
4 May 2009
Unbelievable for many reasons:

1) For surviving the whole film without ripping my eyes out. 2) For the actors......who risked jeopardizing their careers. 3) The Director- A person who can make this film and appreciate it. 4) The producers, for having the balls to release it. 5) The 'Visual -Effects' - Oh my god!If this guy finds a job after this by anyone except the same director........ it's a miracle 6) The writer- Anyone who can write this, has the total inability to find beauty in anything.

This is practically one of the worst movies I have ever seen! There was not a single thing that can be appreciated Everyone one acted miserably, the plot couldn't have been more 'cheezy' for a wanna-be parody! P.S : The only thing believable was Anu Malik's horrible music.

T*ts ......and that's it!
4 May 2009
Out of all this is the worst! Yeah....guys enjoys American pie series because, well....there is nudity and well because of the whole 'cool factor'. But there is nothing 'cool' in a bunch of people running around naked. This has no concrete story line. Plus in the other parts there is a definite story line and that's why people like the whole thing, but well this time they believe that the movie could sell on the basis of female frontal nudity alone. And the words 'masturbation' and 'grand parents' SHOULD be keep separately, way away from each other. This film is really sense less , and trying to look at the 'positive' side, the women aren't even that good looking. Really if someone really feels like watching this, then please don't.....go on the net there a whole lot out there, which by the way it's field is much better.

'Never Judge a Film By It's Trailer'
3 May 2009
It's amazing to see how Nikhil Advani manages to attract people to the theater till the very day of the release. I mean..... look at the cast here , the promotion is superb, good enough songs and the trailers are fine. This makes it a house full on the first day, but it's only when people go and see the film they realize that there is no way their money is refundable. House full the first day , the movie is out the next week.

This film, inspired by 'Love Actually' is what they say, didn't manage to handle the whole cast well. They tried to put in big stars but ended up by not even managing to bring out even an average performance by any one. The stories are hollow and cheesy, so the audience can't connect with any single one of them. It's a big disappointment to all those who like big stars or for that matter Nikhil Advani after his big success of 'Kal Ho Na Ho'.

Truly a Work of Crap
3 May 2009
Remember ..how actors say that some movies have ' not been their best work', well..this is nothing like that. This couldn't have been worse for Lisa Kudrow who I absolutely adore in F.R.I.E.N.D.S and Damon Wayans who I really like in 'My Wife And Kids'. This is a perfect example of a movie that is senseless, hopeless, meaningless, non enjoyable and a bad attempt to comedy. Any one who finds this funny and enjoyable or can entertain this film for a whole 2 hours can be only for two reasons : One- Awful Taste in almost all things and Second - Probably a bet involving a huge amount for who can actually survive the film. The only thing worth appreciating in how the actors manage to find jobs after the film was released.

Warning: You May Laugh Your A** Out
3 May 2009
This movie is hilarious. It is exactly the opposite of a sophisticated film and if you don't appreciate good comedy then it's a waste. And while watching this, you might wanna put your Women and Jews to bed because Sacha is extremely offensive to both of them. But it's a satire considering Sacha himself is a Jew. The movie raises a whole lot of questions and controversies but the bottom line remains that one, it's funny as hell and second there is a 'hidden' message behind it.

The dialogues are the best, each scene is another roll on the couch. This just keeps getting funnier and funnier. One of the things worth appreciating is Sacha's acting here, his whole 'Khazakistan' accent is brilliant and his 'timing' is excellent. Even the tiniest little details are worth appreciating and funny.

A Concept Well Utilized
2 May 2009
There are a very few thrillers in Bollywood which have a good concept and also manage to utilize it well. 13B is one of them. One of the best Horror films I've seen in a long time in Bollywood, which not only had a good plot but was also very well written. It was something different than the usual Horror movies where there is a good attempt as far as background sound, cinematography & art direction are concerned but unfortunately they don't have a story to support all that. 13B sure is an exception. The acting was all brilliant, very convincing, and didn't have the cheezy touch to it. The story grips you till the end, it keeps getting tense and intriguing. One of the things lacking in the films was it's publicity which was very poor, the promotion song used was the very thing that was keeping me to watch the films, thankfully I got over it.

Simplicity At It's Best!
30 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
It's undoubtedly one of the finest works of cinema directed my Sidney Lumet. The actors portray the characters that they depict so wonderfully with such brilliance that one tends to get totally engrossed in the film and script. The script should be appreciated for it's simplicity- 12 Jurors and just one room. The audience gets tense and sweats in suspense as the final verdict comes closer. And also a great work of camera is done by Boris Kauffman where he makes the screen less wide as the end approaches that the viewer too gets the feel of the tension and the claustrophobia. It's intriguing to know how 12 different people come together and use their varied experiences to come to their final verdict.

A Disappointing Thriller!
30 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Neil Nitin Mukesh is so much better when he talks less. His narration in particular sucks. This is just below above average. A bad performance by almost all, except Bipasha who did relatively better than others around her. Some things in the film are way too cheesy for me to stand! This just does not have any depth at all. Just when I thought that Bollywood was ready to make good thriller, here goes another disappointment. The concept of the film can be appreciated only to the extend that it exists but nothing has been done to utilize it. What I thought was a promotional song, actually turned out to be in the film. Some things just don't make sense in the film, absolutely blunt. These people have no idea what thrillers!

Philosophical, Funny & Entertaining
23 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Now this is one film that that is philosophical, funny, entertaining and not just for kids but for all ages. No matter how predictable the story maybe, it still keeps you glued to your seat plus the moral "there is no secret recipe" makes you want to believe in your self , no matter how hopeless, obsessed or how much idealistic you are about anything. The movies is well targeted , keeping in mind that one is aiming for all age groups. There is animation for kids, there action for teenagers and there is a moral for the adults to impart to their young ones , who plan to sit beside them and watch it and also for the youth to realize that no mater what anyone says the only two things important are Focus and Perseverance. The animation is one of the best in recent times and the colors in the movie have been well chosen considering the whole "china- look" and the kung fu theme, these keep your eyes constantly on the screen. The humour is typical Jack Black -casual, silly and goofy which makes look like a one that has a hanger stuck inside. But one thing different about this film is that, on top of all this one really attaches himself to the characters which are all so varied. Again one of the most common things used in films is how characters of comics or fantasies are basically animals, this is done because nature itself is so varied and one can easily identify each one characteristics by the animal it is, Panda- fat hence perceived as lazy or slow, Tiger- Furious and Strong, Mantis - Small yet fast and clever , Snake- Focus, vigilance and reflexes and Monkey- Fast, flexible and active, relatively less furious. These characters take you on a journey filled with dreams ,aspirations and fun.

Review by Scenes

1) Oogway Dies

To me this scene marks, the point where Shifu has to take a major decision and believe not only in himself but also in his master. In is after this moment he realises that he can train Po, he only has to guide and nurture him. The scene is very well shot, specially when Oogway dies and the petals seem to take him way, this I think also represents that we all are part of mother nature and that one day we shall all turn and get mixed in to the very elements of the world- fire ,water, earth and air.

2) Po's training

This is one scene, where there is a a lot fun, it's filled with action, very attractive animation

and it also represents how there is always a way to make a person learn and understand, one just has to know the art of doing so. As in this case it was food, so reaching someone through the things that can motivate and makes him focus him is essential. In the end , after the training when he finally gives the dumpling to Shifu, this shows that when a person has self -actualized , he rises over petty pleasures.

3) Tai Lung's Escape

This is very well written and shot. This makes the audience feel thrilled and tense at the same moments as Lung escapes. The prison looks all the more mystical and intense by keeping the contrast low and making it go underground.

4) Opening Scene (Dream)

The opening scene begins with Po's dream, which represents the inner desire of a fan or a person who is so idealistic. The dream has people shouting "awesome" and the five saying to Po ,"we should hang out". This represents that Po wanted to know 'the five' and be like them, he wanted people to like him and see him at the magnificent one.

5) The Dragon Scroll

It is Ironic how the thing perceived to be legendary and to be known to also the paranormal is just about believing in one's self. In the scene when Po gets the Dragon Scroll, it is shot is a way that that shows the it is the most prized possession one can get and only one person can have it. But the truth is anyone can achieve , if he/she wishes to believe.

Very Very Average!
1 June 2008
I saw this movie only because it was a White Feather Production whose previous film Dus Kahaneeyain was a good film(considering all ten stories). It's coming up with new ideas which have never been applied in Bollywood, plus 'The Great Indian Butterfly' and 'Pankh' also look very good in the trailers.

But this film was really a disappointment, the new actor Sikander Kher, son of Anupam Kher really dint act well nor did any one else and even the soundtrack is pathetic. The only reason that one can sit through the film is because it's not slow and second that the storyline is not all that bad, mildly predictable but bearable.

Indian Boarding School Realism!
31 May 2008
I decided to watch this film for two basic reasons;1)Nagesh Kukunoor & 2)because I too study in a boarding school of India. This film shows the reality of a boarding life which has never ever been shown on- screen. This is precisely what happens in an Indian Boarding school, obviously somethings may vary but this is more or less precise. And if you too happen to study in one, this film will revive all the old memories, incidences, stupidness, silliness, failures and successes. Though it does not touch each and every aspect of a boarding life but still it's a must see.

My personal favorite parts are what the lead experiences in the starting of his life there, because that what happens to most of the students.

1001 Movies To See Before You Die !
30 December 2007
I recently saw the movie after finding it's name in "1001 Movies To See Before You Die" ! So I thought of giving it a shot. The reviews I've read said that it is a GROSS and a BELOVED film and after seeing I really cant decide whether to rate it 1 or any thing above that. Cuz its a movie which has given DISGUST a new level .Its got scenes involving masturbation and sex with animals and all the filth on top of it. If one chooses to give it 1, then it means its got nothing at all but this definitely has SOME THING. So in order to appreciate and the filth and gross-stuff and Efforts made by John Waters to make it the Filthiest film ,I've given it a 5.
