An oasis of laughter
8 August 2008
I have been waiting a very long time to see a parody that I could even laugh at, and I mean a long, long time. The latest crop of parodies today aren't even trying, and seem to be written just to make a quick buck e.i. Meet the Spartans, Scary Movie 1, 2, 3 & 4. Not only do I think The Dewey Cox story is the best parody ever; I would have to say it could possibly be the funniest movie I have ever seen. Before Dewey Cox Story I thought John C. Reilly was kind of riding on Will Ferrell's comedy coat-tails but now I see the true comedic genius is Mr Reilly. I even recall seeing the poster for this movie in the theater lobby early on and telling myself I wouldn't even consider seeing it, but after seeing Mr. Reilly's TV promo pieces for the movie I discovered he was a lot funnier than I gave him credit for and decided to go see it. I was so happy I did. The laughs are non-stop and the wit is razor sharp. Thanks Mr. Reilly for MAKING me laugh so very hard.

The King of Queens (1998–2007)
Could it be anymore under rated?
19 October 2004
I consider myself to be a connoisseur of sitcoms, and used to spend many long hours wasting my life watching them all. Sense Seinfeld, Friends and many other great sitcoms have left the scene I am left with wasting my life on the one great series that is left, "The King of Queens", and in my humble opinion beats them all. I have to admit, as has been mentioned before, it takes a couple of shows before you get hooked but it doesn't take long before you start realizing the brilliant comedic performance and timing of Kevin James, Patton Oswalt, Jerry Stiller and Leah Remini. I don't think the few people criticizing the show realize just how much talent it takes to make the world laugh, they really don't. However, I'm puzzled only about one thing, "Everybody Loves Raymond," but I don't, and it is hovering around #5 in the ratings but The King of Queens, which totally kicks ass on Raymond isn't even showing up in the top 20, what's up with that? Don't get me wrong because I've watched Raymond and I think it is "okay" funny but not nearly the caliber that KoQ's is. CBS needs to give a little more respect and focus some PR on the show and especially Kevin James because when movie goers get finally get tired of the very funny Adam Sandler I predict Kevin is next in line (or at least I secretly hope).

Taxi (I) (2004)

I'm sorry Jimmy, I REALLY REALLY wanted to like it.
9 October 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I was really hoping this movie was going to turn out to be a lot funnier than it was. I like Jimmy Fallen because he had some pretty memorable moments on SNL. Unfortunately the funniest segments of the whole movie were the outtakes at the end. I hope they give Jimmy another chance with a better script because I was really looking forward to having something to see in between Will Ferrell movies. The action was okay and the car chases were pretty good because I'm not into car chases much and yet I still found them compelling in this movie. Queen Latifah's performance was good considering I didn't even go to see the movie because of her and yet I found she gave a lot of personality for the duo.

*SPOILER* I had a problem with a small plot hole towards the end of the movie where Gisele's character agrees to accept a hostage trade of a young almost helpless teenager for a more competent well trained police women who possibly could have only added more of a complication. It didn't seem to make sense as an advantages trade and more or less seemed contrived for the sake of the script, and found it to be weak story telling.

The Woodsman (2004)

Solid performance
21 January 2004
Although the subject matter was not one I would favor in a film, both the writing and directing were outstanding and I found it very easy to follow exactly where they intended the audience to go. Kyra and Walter are both very believable 3 dimensional characters but Walter was particularly mesmerizing to watch. I find it a treat just to watch Kevin perform. I am glad his career has stood the test of time and enabled him to continue to make many memorable roles

Resident Evil (2002)

Surprisingly Good
18 March 2002
I went to see this movie because I like the Sci Fi genre but cautioned myself to expect to see a bad video-game movie. Much to my surprise Resident Evil turned out to be even better than I had hoped. This movie has plenty of gore, however not just for gores sake but for a great plot line that worked well with it. The plot elements came together very nicely and contributed to a much more plausible zombie story than has ever been done in the past, the corporate security computer "The Red Queen" was also a nice touch. Although at times predictable, possibly intentional, it was surprisingly suspenseful. The acting was very good and believable, and for those would-be acting critiques out there this was not intended to be a drama, but an action thriller. As mentioned in another's review, Milla Jovovich is an accomplished actress that I believe made a wonderful performance and not just because she is awesome to look at. I gave it a 9 out of 10 (sorry, very few movies deserve a 10).

A Top Quality film
17 January 2002
I saw this film at the Sundance Film Festival and am glad I did. This movie was everything it should have been. Every aspect from the writing, directing and acting performances were crafted very well, even the score was superb. I've always like Andy Garcia's performance and this is about as good as it gets. James Coburn was a treat; his character had me laughing pretty hard at times. I have never been too fond of Mr. Jagger's performances in the past but after seeing this it gave me a whole new respect for his acting. There is a scene in the movie that admittedly you suspected was coming yet was executed so well by Mr. Jagger It still left me moved, and it's not easy to feel sympathy for a Mega Rock Star (if you know what I mean). The Industry needs this level of sentiment that's not over the top. What I liked best about this movie, however, was its rewarding ending. I've seen so many movies where I just feel ripped off at the end but not this one, It really left me satisfied. See this movie when it's released you won't be disappointed.
