Disappointing low budget thriller!

This film could have been so much better. It has the great talent of Scott Baio who seems to be one of the only people who stop it from sinking completely. I was disappointed especially by the bad guy performances, Don Shroud acted like he was doing pantomime. His bad cop performance was crude and disgusting. The special effects could not help things as they were shaky and low-budget. Scott Baio and the young girl he rescues are the only actors that give this film saving grace, their performances however are ruined by the rest of the cast who seem to be in pantomime mode! The ending was probably one of the greatest disappointments, along with the incoherent final shootout. For die hard fans of Scott Baio only!

Rodriguez mastery!!

This has to be my favourite film of all time. Antonio Banderas is funny and also touching in his leading role performance as El Mariachi, the mystery man. Salma Hayek is also brilliant as the lady he hooks up with, a tough bookstore owner. All the cast add to the films overall effects, Joaquim de Almeida is a good bad guy if a little over the top, but you love to hate him. There are nice cameos by Steve Buscemi, Cheech Marin and Quentin Tarantino which give the film spice. The story can be a little disjointed but it does not matter, the special effects are of usual Robert Rodriguez quality. A great little flick which sequels Rodriguez's El Mariachi. A good all round action adventure.

Film genius!

This is in my opinion the greatest Almodovar film ever! Its funny and serious, but mainly farscical, but its brilliant. Carmen Maura steals the show as a woman close to the edge, but her performance is fully backed up by all the rest of the cast. Antonio Banderas performance is excellent as a geeky young man, with his girlfriend and mother also shining. It combines all the elements of American comedy of the sixties but brings it back at us with a touch of latin spirit. This film in my opinion is a gem, for anyone who wants to laugh!
