Good character work

Lots of moving parts with the various characters making this episode one of the best I've seen so far. Storytelling is good as things are referred back to later in the episode as well as I tell I've got set ups. Happily not too much on the boring action scene front either so I'm happy.

Some priceless moments

Ughhh! After The Measure of a Man we go back to season one... at least that's what it feels like in this very basic and hollow story.

Luckily season two has certain things going for it, like the amazing Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan who lights up her scenes, or Michael Dorn coming into his own as Worf and when he's gifted with anything even remotely amusing he can smash it out of the park with his superb delivery and timing.

Rushed and forced main plot but all around the periphery are nice moments. Then there's one or two scenes that are so bad that they're hilarious.

Not one to rewatch all that often....

Beam me up!

Rewatch. I thought this was a great introduction for this lighthearted series. We are introduced to everyone, get an idea of the premise of the show and get a very basic story to use to facilitate all of this. What I love most are all the references.

Martok the Klingon with the eye patch? Klingon prison was Rura Penthe? Spock, Genesis, Sulu fencing, Kirk, Troi, Bat'leth .... And more that I forgot!!

Kind of creepy

Fitting that I rewatched this on Halloween week. This episode has such a creepy feel to it that I used to be terrified of it as a child.

It's much better than I remembered though. Great character story for Pulaski and Picard with some interesting sci fi thrown in for good measure. It takes a very different angle to TOS The Deadly Years so I forgive the reuse of the concept.

Definite points off for the resolution... you'll see.

Riker truly comes alive here... plus Klingons!
16 November 2021
Season two really picks up the quality in a big way. Great episode, excellently directed by Rob Bowman (I love little things like Mendon's fingers on the console), that really gives Riker some much needed character work. Plus we get a big delve into the way Klingons operate. A and B plots pull in the same direction and we get a neat little ending. This is more like the TNG we all came to know and love.

TNG's first perfect 10

Great script from Melinda Snodgrass exploring the rights of an individual, race and sentience. Nothing fancy, just dialogue, and it's an absolute Trek classic!
