Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
Did we watch the same movie?
I loved this take on a classic that I grew up watching. It was visually stunning and the story was beautifully executed. Was it different than the original cartoon? Yes. The story evolved into something amazing and unique. The cast was perfect. Each character brought something special to their role. I laughed and cried. It was great storytelling with a wonderful message about the adventures of growing up. It also left it to where the story Hook still made sense. Jude Law played his role so well. His character had depth. I loved the plot twist. I also loved how they didn't make Tink mean to Wendy.
The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
How do you top this?
This was painfully beautiful and unexpected. I cried so much. I have never played the game, but now I really want to. This episode was heart felt and not just filler. Did it fill a space? Sure.
It also filled a void in my life I didn't know existed. I needed this Offerman performance in my life.
I was on an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. I do think I would've left his house. I get why they had to keep going. I would have to question if I could be that selfless.
That S10 was also a bonus. That truck was gorgeous. This makes me think that there are great vehicles in the game too. I'm sold.
Pinocchio (2022)
Great family movie.
My children have watched this multiple times. We love it. Who cares if it's not the same? It's meant to be an updated version. I feel like the negative reviews are uncalled for and are by adults. A child doesn't care what the race of a character is and that it isn't the same as the cartoon.
The actors portrait the characters beautifully. Tom Hanks was convincing and felt like someone that would be lovable in real life.
I do wish the "real boy" version wasn't a cgi character. They should've used the same boy from the picture. That's the only thing I wasn't a fan of, but it's not a deal breaker. Still a great movie in its own right.
Vivo (2021)
My kids watch this on repeat
The music is great, the story is sad and heartwarming but still has parts that will make you laugh. Ignore the bad reviews. This is a great family movie. Everyone in my house loves it. It's great for my kids to see more culture. My kids are mixed. Their dad(my husband) is Latino.
Nowhere Alaska (2020)
I support the arts.
Most people involved in this project are getting started in the industry. This stuff isn't easy and people grow and improve on their trade. I didn't think it was horrible. It could've left out the narrative, but it succeeded at telling an interesting story. I didn't think the acting was that bad either. I've seen worse. Kudos to them for making this happen.
Frozen II (2019)
Don't listen to the negative reviews
This was visually stunning, the music is amazing (my family hasn't stopped listening to the soundtrack since we left the theatre yesterday), we were all in tears during the film. It is breathtaking and an emotional roller coaster. I love that Kristof had more singing this time around. The song Show Yourself gives me chills!!! My husband wants to go see it again, but with no kids this time. I think this is better than the first movie. I will be buying it as soon as it releases.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)
Lighthearted and lol funny
My 16 year old was a huge Dora fan when she was little so I've seen a lot of episodes. This poked fun at the cartoon while still creating a unique feel. My youngest didn't get the inside jokes but still loved the adventure and quirky characters. We all left the movie with a huge smile. I highly recommend this for families that have a sense of humor and don't take life so seriously.
