The Choirboys (1977)
As enjoyable as a car crash!
15 December 2003
I had the misfortune of seeing this "movie" a few nights ago.

Now I've seen a lot of films that have been tagged as turkeys in one way or another but despite all the negativity surrounding them they were still watchable in some way.

The same cannot be said of "The Choirboys".

Because it has no plot its similar to watching a home video of a group of people, none of whom you know or care about, simply goofing around.

However here its worse as you have usually super actors such as James Woods making utter idiots of themselves. None of their supposed "comedic" moments are funny but instead leave you with a sense of revulsion.

The film fails on so many levels and is quite frankly an abomination.

Wesley does serious!!!
10 May 2002
A film where Wesley Snipes doesn't beat anyone up or use any martial arts is a rarity in itself. In not using Snipes' best (and some would say only) asset this film gives itself quite a mountain to climb. Unfortunately it falls a great deal short of the peak and careers into a chasm.

Fiorentino is the eponymous heroine chained to a hot dog stand. Inside the stand is a bomb. Snipes has a rifle trained on her and scene is set. Cue loads of pretentious guff about the US constitution and the right to bear arms between arms dealing Liberty and grieving father Snipes.

Unfortunately there are too many scenes of dialogue between Snipes and Fiorentino. Acting is definitely not Snipes' forte and this is an acting intensive role. Their characters are never interesting and the bond that predictably develops between the two is forced. Therefore their many scenes are tiresome and irritating. Nothing quite ever happens with those on the outside and it all takes the form of one long badly given lecture on the evils of firearms.

Bloody Sunday (2002)
Average at best
25 January 2002
Over rated and average account of the Bloody Sunday massacre filmed with pretentious and annoying documentary style-tricks (e.g constant use of fade to black for practically every scene). It gives no real insight to the soldiers involved that day, merely casting them as "the bad guys". At about two hours its also quite padded out.

mesmerically bad....

This is a terrible film. Its an unpleasent mix of sex, gore (gunk might be more accurate) and sc-fi. Some other comments have said that this is a B-film to be enjoyed and not taken too seriously..now I'm as sad and geeky as they come when it comes to sci-fi and B-films but I did not enjoy enjoy one moment of this celluloid mess...avoid this like the plague....

a very entertaining horror/sci-fi
21 January 2002
Phantoms is a cracking film...I'm slightly reluctant to admit this given it's standing (and the fact it stars Ben Affleck) but I went into it with low expectations and enjoyed it thoroughly. Its a fast paced piece of sci-fi/horror hokum with some great shock moments that'll have you jumping out of your seat or cowering behing the sofa..If you're looking for a scary film for Halloween that doesnt revolt, try this.
