Do My Eyes Deceive Me??
23 May 2023
Why does no one mourn the terrible surviving print of this movie? The actors seem to ply their craft through sets flooded with vanilla pudding. I had to ID the characters by movement and relative size.

Most of the time I got it right. Pity.

I saw this movie, fresh out, at the local emporium, right next to the 5-and-dime, just down from the drugstore that served Cokes by squirting syrup in a glass, topping it up with carbonated water and a gentle scoop of ice, with a final vigorous stir of a long spoon. (You got a PAPER straw that usually collapsed before the Coke was finished.) Place had a fancy wooden phone booth. And a shelf of mysterious substances in large glass jars with glass stoppers.

ANYWAY, I digress. As a ten-year-old boy, the opening sequence of this movie showed me that parts of my body were capable of strange and glorious things. That firmly melancholic memory makes me wonder: Does NO ONE possess a better print of this film? Surely a storage box hides in some warehouse, where the ghosts of Lex and Zsa Zsa lament the darkness.

Or, perhaps, some wired wizard, sequestered in Mom's basement, will discover this film from back-in-the-day and, fueled by pizza and Monster, initiate a restoration that will turn back global warming, feed the hungry everywhere, and usher in nuclear disarmament.

Yeah, well ...

Not bad, except for that "MUSIC"
21 April 2023
Okay, since I retired I have a LOT of those idle hours, and I'm happy to find amusing moving-picture shows like this one to fill them.

That being said, what is with the incessant synthsizer/organ/whiney thingy playing EVERY SECOND of the movie?

Some scenes call for music, others don't. The music guy for this video never blinks his ping-pong eyes. His philosophy is "Hey, don't forget this is scary -- Hey, don't forget this is supposed to be scary -- Hey, Hey. Hey! HEY!"

My first six wives didn't make this much noise. Even during the disembowelments.

My advice: Turn the sound off, and turn on the captions.

Beautiful...

Lesbian relationships and the Jehovah Witness religion are two of my interests, though I am neither. Here they are combined perfectly -- the modern philosophy that you can love whom you want, and the strict, traditional dogma of a controlling religion.

I lost two good friends many years ago when they became staunch witnesses. Ironically, a few years after joining they gave it up after seeing the hypocrisy of it. As often happens, too much water under the bridge to renew the friendships.

This movie is well-made and well-acted. It is just as long as it needs to be, and not a single moment is wasted.

Imaginative
8 December 2021
May be the first time I've seen witches working under the authority of the Catholic church. How unexpected! A little respect here. Let's give the creators their due for imagination and effort. Criticizing this for cheap special effects is, well, cheap. They might not have Spielberg's resources, but it didn't stop them from making an entertaining and unique program. I'd love to see more.
