Forced Fan-Service
19 December 2019
When I saw the movie I went from annoyed to outright angry. I would not consider me as a large Star Wars fan, but saw the first one in 1977 in the cinema as a small child and loved it, so I belong to the generation that was massively influenced by the saga.

What angers me most is that the movie has very little substance. While the plot must not be logical it should engage me emotionally and tell a real story of real human beings. The original trilogy was great and Episode I-III is still my favorite as it is has an engaging emotional story arc, a complex political backdrop, interesting characters and elegant plot twists. The original was for the heart, the first reboot for the brain and with the last 3 movies they just pander to the retro-generation.

In Rise of Skywalker all characters are dragged through their storylines and I do not feel they decide anything or think. They are pushed from location to location for arbitrary reasons mostly by a deus-ex-machina. Most dialogue is simply explanatory.

What bugged me most is the obvious checklist the writers had in mind to show off everything you have seen already. Without spoilers I can guarantee you that you will think at least 30 times "Oh, ok, I've seen that before."

I am disappointed at the lack of creativity, annoyed by the thin plot and downright insulted by the endless list of unnecessary locations, starships, situations and people they dragged in from of the camera to make us go "Ahhh" because we have seen it all before a million times. Anyway, you can like the movie of course, the actors tried their best, but without chemistry or heart they have little to work with.

Complete Waste of Time
28 October 2006
I agree with most of the other guys. A waste of photons and valuable time.

Nearly no joke is worth the paper is was written on. The only highlight from my pov is Olli Dittrich as Pinocchio. ("Egal, ich muss eh Waldsterben") This reminds of old times with RTL Samstag Nacht. It is hard to describe the performances of the actors, since most of them don't even seem to have a good time during production and just "do their thing". Camera is OK, plot is laughable, I think you would be ashamed even if you discuss this with lots of beers.

Apart from this I yawned all the time, wondered about how a script like this could even be considered for production and waited for the end.

My 9 year old son was pleased, but then he is pleased by so little at this age :-)

Anyway, a 1 point rating here nearly is 1 point too much...

Great Movie, great Trilogy! Fully satisfied!
7 November 2003
Hello World, I feel the urgent need to defend the Trilogy against unjustified attacks from all sides.

It is a great trilogy that has deep philosophical implications and is greatly thought provoking. I kept discussing the movies for a long time and I urge everyone not to look only on the surface, but look deeper.

There are many themes that are worth pondering about and I think the Wachowski Bros did a great job in finding a perfect ending. What did you expect? An ending where everything is explained even to the clueless viewer? Where Trinity and Neo are holding hands, the sky is blue again and all humans cheer upon their new King and Queen? You didn't really believe the story of human batteries?

Come on!

There is no spoon. Not in the Matrix, not even in the "reality" of Zion, which is another instance of another Matrix. As Morpheus so eloquently put it: "Is this real?"

But the movie leaves you with many questions and hints about the nature of reality (is there a Matrix within a Matrix (Green Matrix/Orange Matrix)?), Buddism and Gnostic Philosophy, the relationship of the Architect/Oracle, the choice of free will, reincarnation etc.

Adding to that I witnessed the most stunning visual effects I have seen in my life.

So please give the movie a chance and understand it as a surreal parable about many unanswered questions in life, and not as the average Hollywood airhead movie.

10 out of 10!!!
