Fleabag (2016)
Overhyped smugness
There has been so much hype around this show. I have tried it a few times, but it is so annoying I have to switch off. It is so smug. It's about really smug posh people and their smug lives. And they are trying really hard to be edgy. Like a posh girl in her late teens desperately trying to shock and make a point by flaunting her smoking and sex life. And their attempts to be really messed up and dark, in a cool way, is annoying. And for some reason, women in modern productions always own a cake shop. This is annoying too. The fact that low income people are facing criminalisation because of the licence fee, to fund this smugness is annoying. Especially as Im watching it on Amazon, but apparently they need the money? Just so smug and i havent laughed once. This is marginallly better than mandy, because there is a script. Because upper and middle class women are human beings, unlike their inferiors. Just really annoying.
Don't Forget the Driver (2019)
Unfunny, bleak and snobby
Didnt laugh once. It is depressing and bleak. The characters feel like a guardian columnist created them in their lunch break, to tick a "working class brexit box". It feels condescending. Like they just observed people from a distance, like they were in a zoo.
Mandy (2019)
Poverty tourism/British snobbery
Mandy is basically a cartoon for middle class guardian readers, or misogynists. It stinks of the worst snobbery in the UK. The people who made this are extremely out or touch with the atmosphere in the country. It pretty much sums up the BBCs attitude to people from this background. It says a lot, that YouTube cat videos made for pennies, are more watchable than this.
