Disappointing
11 June 2022
I really wanted to love this show because I sincerely enjoy westerns.

However the acting is generally very bad, even Aidan Gillen, which I was shocked by because he was spectacular in GoT. The writing is subpar and though I'm on episode 3 I still have no grasp on the actual story. There is also very little character development overall.

I will say the main redeeming factor, which is why I didn't give it a 3 star review, is that it is shot phenomenally well.

I'm basically watching this for the settings, shots and violence at this point. Which makes me sad because this had the potential to be really great.

Oh well.

A Familiar Tale

This is essentially a remake of the movie California Split (1974).

The only exception in the plot is they go to New Orleans instead of Reno.

I do love Ryan Reynolds though and it was entertaining to watch.

Best New Gangster Movie Since The Irishman
18 April 2022
The acting, writing, and shots are all very good.

I was pleasantly surprised because my standard for gangster movies is quite high.

Definitely worth a watch.

A Good Historical Reference
17 April 2022
The acting isn't anything to write home about but the format, writing and shots are good.

Sterile enough for children to watch and learn about this history of the American West, but entertaining enough for adults who are interested in the subject as well.

I am only very sad that Doc Holliday (my favorite western hero) has not been mentioned so far.

Awful
22 March 2022
Writing is bad, shots are bad, acting is subpar for the capacity of the mains.

I made it through about 15 minutes and gave up.

Please don't make me write more about it based on your 150 character count because it's so bad it doesn't even deserve the review I've given it.

Honestly for a great actor like Gibson to accept this role is honestly very disappointing.

He should've left it after reading the script.

Also that young buck from Yellowstone is beyond this himself as well.

He's relatively new and should definitely be picking his roles more carefully than this.

Quality Acting From A Devoted Cast
16 January 2022
The legend of Bumpy Johnson is truly that of an underdog in the criminal world that proved his naysayers wrong.

Such a legend deserves a cinematic piece that is both entertaining and accurate.

Many of the cast are quality actors that deserve their roles in this tale of the tribulations that ensconced the streets of Harlem for over 50 years in spectacular mire.

Forest Whitaker; what a perfect casting.

An actor I've had a respect for over many years. He is the ideal individual to portray Bumpy because he does not compromise the integrity of his role. After only two episodes I could be shown a picture of Bumpy Johnson and only say he doesn't look enough like Mr. Whitaker.

Ilfenesh Hadera; She does a good job. A newer actor that shows promise. I am fully convinced that Mrs. Johnson would be a beautiful and steadfast woman. Truly an asset and confidant to the Johnson empire.

Giancarlo Esposito, Paul Sorvino, Vincent D'Onofrio and Nigel Thatch; all portray their roles as one would expect. Like professionals.

Antoinette Crowe; Encompassed her role and had me convinced she was that character.

Lucy Fry and Rafi Gavron; I'm not impressed.

All other supporting roles were adequate.

The screen writing and cinematography is consistent and is much like the life of Mr. Johnson. No frills. Just high quality meat.

The only reason this didn't receive a 9 is because the soundtrack is desperate at best.

There was no rap in the 60s and attempting to pander to "today's youth" via the soundtrack is both harmful to the narrative and insulting to young people.

Overall I'd suggest giving it a watch.
