Strange Fits of Passion (1999)
A genuine friendship amidst a lot of confusion
I love the relationship between the main central character and her best friend Jimmy. For me the interaction between these two was the only really enjoyable moments in the film. Jimmy provides a lightness and voice of reason to this unreasonable character, who seems to act and react without logic or thought. Despite supposing to represent the conflict of many young women caught between notions of romantic love and modern notions of feminism, after a short while I found her floundering unsatisfying and seeming to lack any insight into the plight of modern women.
I would have given this film a much higher rating however if it were not for the abrupt downward turn that the film takes at the very end which seems to come out of nowhere and leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth that story tellers have seemingly not moved beyond such stereotypical clichéd endings. Disappointing, as at first it seems to hold so much more promise.
Robot Monster (1953)
beyond dull and mindless
This movie was beyond dull! As far as I am concerned Plan 9 from Outer Space can not hold a candle to this movie for being the worst ever made. At least Plan 9 from Outer Space is poorly made in a funny way, Robot Monster's plot is non-exsistant and most of the movie is spent watching Ro-man WALK from one hill to the other. Throw in two wrestling dinosaurs (from another movie), an invasion consisting of one ape with a diving helmet and a bubble machine and you have the worst way to spend an hour and a half of your life.
Not even Crow and Tom Servo from Mystery Science Theater 3000 can make this one funny. DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE!
