Gotham Knights (2023)
Heck of a strong pilot.
I had a lot of fun watching this. I admit that, not really being a comic or animation follower, all I really know of Batman lore is from the movies. And in this case, I am totally fine with that! I get to enjoy this show unencumbered by past canon and can enjoy it for itself. And honestly, haven't comics had all kinds of variations of this story? This was fast moving but didn't leave me lost, with a really likable cast who clearly gave their ALL to this pilot. There's no wooden acting, the sets and cinematography are first class and way better than expected, there are a lot of quotable one-liners, and an eventual villain that it will be hard not to root for.
The Winchesters (2022)
Like returning home but bringing new friends.
I admit it, I am a huge Supernatural fan. It's been my comfort show for many years and for reasons I probably can't explain, those characters mean a great deal to me. I've never cared about any other TV show this much. Not even close. So getting this prequel was both exciting and worrying!
I'm happy to say that this pilot delivered so well. It brought back to me the nostalgia I feel for the OG while giving me new characters I instantly cared about. I love the diversity of the cast and it's clear that they, along with the Ackles and Robbie Thompson have a genuine love and respect for the original show. I'm happily along for the ride and look forward to the rest of the season!
Roadfood (2021)
Really enjoyable, warm show.
I love the concept, Misha as host is a warm people-person. I love to see him genuinely excited about things. I hope they'll dig a bit deeper in future seasons. I know they want to visit lots of places, but I kept wanting to know more about the people and the community and the history. The Detroit and Little Dominica episodes were particularly outstanding. Surprising and optimistic, despite the difficulties these communities have faced.
