Batman: The Animated Series: I Am the Night (1992)
I feel Nolan enjoyed this episode
I am not sure, but I strongly feel that Christopher Nolan watched this episode, and got inspired by it in devolping the relationship between Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and Detective Gordon in the The Dark Knight trilogy, mainly at the acclaimed scene in The dark knight rises, when Batman reveals to Gordon his true identity displaying that Gordon was his hero all the time.
In addition this episode contains a great deal of quotes that me in my thirties and can still feel related too. The scenery the direct, all of it is a master piece,.
It is unfortunate that no shows of this kind are made, just the right amount of greatness, you feel it is perfect, even the later Batmam shows were not up to the same level, why no one knows, But I am lucky to catch this great show. The episode we needed, and the show we deserved!
Oppenheimer (2023)
A Movie for history.
This is a film, a movie by all means, a great story, it feels like watching the narrative of Citizen Kane, yet, it maintains the speed of an action trailer, a dual twist (I felt) that makes a person sigh, I reached the theater late, and didn't have a chance to get some beverage for the 3 hour movie, however, that didn't matter, as the 3 hours passed within minutes, I am not here to write that Nolan is great, this is not a theory that needs to be advocacy anymore, nevertheless, I am here to say why Nolan is great, and why oppenheimer is a true Nolan movie.
The screening was great, the sounds managed to gave goose bumps 👌, the Imax experience awesome, the dialog is a tasteful dessert.. But the real thing is the casting, Nolan is the greatest in this field, he puts the right actor/actress in the right role. First Cillian Murphy, delivered one of his best performances, in this movie he was so relaxed and fitted, he delivered his A game, he got into the character in a way that his eyes were giving a freezing fire looks, cold, yet fear and worry is seen. 10 of 10! Emily Blunt, she is beautiful, but in a grounded way, an elegent lady of the 40s, her acting is so method, she managed to reflect the charchters temper, and the wicked love she had for Oppenheimer. Matt Damon is the joker card of the movie, he is a real actor, delivered a simple honest General, not trying to impress, he gave right dose of greatness and performances. Robert Downey JR. Managed to deliver a great talent, the way he spoke the way he delivered his character, the smile, the anger and the eye rolling, just great! Honestly I am not big fan of Florence Pugh, and I was a bit skeptical about her participation in the movie, nevertheless, after watching it I think i can understand why Nolan choose her, she really fits her role, her character was a bit controversial and maybe that suits her fine.. of course with all due respect to her and her fans!
However I must say that I was not fond of the sex scene of the movie, and the extended nude sit down talk between Murphy and Pugh, it is not essential for the story, and Nolan is not fan of scenes of this kind, I mean people can talk in depth with their clothes on! This is why I will give the movie 9 stars. I must say the music is great, and the sounding, to all of those who say Nolan benefited in his career from Hans Zimmer, think again! I think the latter is the one who managed to gain the bigger award of their collaboration.
In conclusion, this movie might not be the cup of tea for everyone, but this is a real movie, the vibes of Godfather, Casablanca, 12 angry men, and those really movies that delivered a great story on awesome narrative. Nolan told the story of Oppenheimer, as Oppenheimer wondered, will anyone tell the story of the A bomb.. Nolan answered!
THANK YOU CHRISTOPHER NOLAN!
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)
Not even close to the 1st one
The devil lies in details, and this movie had so details that didn't help in enjoying, the first one was more structured, much sophisticated, this one was easy and even Daniel Craig acting didn't reach the zenith it had achieved in the first movie, the story, mystery, and crime.. is not fulfilling. I know some people enjoyed it, nevertheless, it is two steps back from the 1st one.
However, some people might enjoy watching it, it is a good time wasting a rainy weekend movie, but not the kind that makes you finish and drown in sigh of thoughts that the movie trows on you, and the acting is very shallow in some scenes, trying too hard everyone, a show of festival.
The Pale Blue Eye (2022)
A movie needed, but not what we deserve!
Christian Bale GOAT as always, the performance of Harry Melling is incredible, the atmosphere the classic snow can still be filled with much more details. I think the presence of Bale and the incredible cinematics didn't match with the writing, the makers, first decided to bring Bale, then the main novelty of the movie, the winter. Revenge, and Gothic shadow, then quickly wrote the work.. however, this is a that is far from the new Agendas shoved into our throats Kudos to everyone, and thank you Netflix for having a bit of courage keep it up sometimes we just need an old good movie, you dont need to make everyone politically happy, eventually it is entertainment.
Ricky Gervais: SuperNature (2022)
Good, but not awesome.
It is good, but I didn't feel watching a stand up show, felt more like a ted talk containing more jokes than usual, of course I enjoy listening to Ricky he is a great human been, and indeed he has interesting insights on Humans. To sum it up, it was entertaining and nice to watch show, but the amount of my laughs were less than expected.
Seinfeld (1989)
The only sitcom that deserves 10 stars
I have seen this show many times, and it always manages to draw smile and giggle a laugh out of me, Seinfeld is the sitcom, just for laughs, the producers didn't care about anything except in delivering a show that entertain their audiences, it didn't have those dramatic lines same as other sitcoms.
The acting is suburb, frankly the more you watch it the more you realize the talent that everyone in the show had, even Jerry who many had criticized his acting, in my opinion acted very well for not being actor to start with, even he criticized him self in the episode of shooting the show he wrote during the show.
Michael Richards is the back bone of the show, along with many great actors who delivered the best their is. I hope new sitcoms manage to produce same type of comedy, though the political atmosphere will not allow it I am sure, but we hope.
Salute to Jerry and Larry for this awesome show, for ever in your depth.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
This movie had me from the first take off... Movie industry is still alive!
To begin with this movie is a blast from the past but more enhanced than the past, I remember watching Top gun 1986 in late 90s or early 00s, I enjoyed the movie then, it was a good action dramatic sparkled with enough amount of romance and humor. However, it is rare and I underline the word rare!! To find a sequel that outruns the orginal 80s movie, specially in this era that is filled with much of political tensions, and PC stuff that are risky to cross in the making of any production, nevertheless, Top gun Maverick managed to ensure a secure come back and to deliver a great movie.
Concerning the movie, I wont say much, so that this won't be considered a spoiler review, but if you are seeking that enjoyable heroic adrenaline nostalgic rush that was felt in late 80s and 90s and the early 00s movies such as die hard, brave heart, that these type of movies managed to deliver, in a beautiful romantic package, then this movie is indeed the cup of tea you need to be sipping.
Top gun Maverick is very enjoyable nice movie that was directed in a great matter and detailed very well, it also contains the healthy right amount of masculinity that had gone in absence in most of the last decade cinematic productions, and yes it might have some exaggerated moments and allowing the hero of being a hero, but comen isn't that what movies are meant to do, setting role models and encouraging us to exceed our selves... Finally if this movie was made in early 00s I would give it 6 or 7, but due to the fact that it brought back the hope that motion picture industry is not dead yet, and still enjoyable good movies are still manageable despite all the barriers that the social and political atmosphere throws in todays world I give it a rating of 9.
P.s Tom cruise is a great actor I always respected his acting and his ability to deliver dramatic and romantic performance while remaining the action figure he managed to be.
The Batman (2022)
Three perspectives to review
In order of giving a thorough and honest review concerning The Batman, one has to view it in three different perspectives in order of delivering interpretation that suits a charchter that had been screenplayed that much, such as The Batman.
First a review of the movie as a movie:
This movie managed to deliver a great cinematic universe, well orchestrated, especially the acting, the music, and the camera angles, and the action scenes were felt, delivered, and had a realistic vibes to the viewer. The Noir theme was found in every scene and remind through the movie. However that been said the movie had to much extension to some scenes, and the over use of making a peak scenes, which are the scenes that gives you goosebumps,my friend commented after we left the theater that The Batman felt as a mini series, and could easily be cut into making of a few episodes, instead of a one cinema movie. That said it deserves an 7 stars from this angle, as it was unnecessarily long in many scenes!
The second angle is the movie as a Batman movie. Making a Batman movie means that you must keep the orginal comics, and that was somehow kept in the movie, however the movie returned to the classic screen adaptions to Batman preior to the sixties, by making the Batman more detective and with simpler gadgets, and even a simple batmobile (it is not simple but comparing to the sixties and henceforth it is a regular car with fast and furious nitro), it must be noted that the casting deserves a thumbs up, Robert Pattinson did manage to take the bat cape and fill it awesomely, however, inspite that movie is long and tries to focus on Bruce, but it is rare that we find Bruce Wayne, Pattinson is wearing the cape more, Catwoman did great as an actress, but I felt that the movie tried to give her much focus with little, a quick origin story and too much kissing and hitting on the Bat, nevertheless I cant really allow my self to discuss her. A big fall I think is the absence of Alfred to the movie, indeed he had few scenes but he was shadowed, same to the Penguin, who in my opinion was the best character to the movie. Overall the movie did copy in indirect but direct way movies such as Joker and other noir movies, for example Seven, and obviously a dark knight statements can be noticed in the movie, and right the riddler, the actor was awesome, but tried to much either in his performance or the dialogue he was handed to Leadger his character, especially the scene when Batman came Arkham to meet him. Thus, i give it a Seven.
Finally, reviewing the movie in comparison to the Dark knight trilogy. Here we must note that this comparison will not be fair to Matt reeves Batman, as the dark knight is much deeper, with a much better casting and story telling, yes this movie is very good, but Nolan went to deep, and tried to interpret Batman in his own cinematic rituals, I read somewhere that the Batman producers said that this will defeat Nolan's trilogy, and that is far of true and trifling to think of, first because the movies are somehow of different genres The batman is Noir superhero, with dark adaption, while the trilogy is drama superhero, more phycologist though both have action scenes second, Nolan did a master piece on all scales, and not filming wise, but the dialogue, it is more simple straight drama, not this movies drama that is built upon struggles of Bruce Wayne and Selina and the twist of Thomas Wayne, which is very good but not theatrical such as Nolans, also the extended scenes which really became boring for a Batman movie. This is more comparable to Burton's Batman, which this movie managed much better to deliver, however the extended scenes were much, so due to challenging Nolan's trilogy, and the dark knight being a piece of art I give the movie here 4.
Thus, overall I think 5 stars suits the movie. Maybe because I appreciate a good story telling with a philosophical script over an extreme performed action takes. I must point that I felt the movie was meant only to have the epic movie trailers that teased us since the beginning.
Nevertheless, as Christopher Nolan said; Batman is a charchter that trives on different interpretation, so all movies are good because everyone can find his suiting Bat suit and choose it to be his favorite adaption.
Of course it is only a movie, and this is merely my opinion on Matt's Batman take, and for me the ultimate batman will be the Animated series of Batman during the early 90s.
To epilogue I must say RIP both Bill Finger, and Bob Kane, who created this charchter, the we always looked at with joy.
