Vacationland (2006)
...Huh
One of the worst if not the worst written movies I have ever seen. It felt disjointed and all over the place as at times it looked like scenes were missing with how random it was. To top it off I felt many of the characters weren't very likable and the movie sort of has an underlying plot which seemed like an afterthought as it wasn't focused on much. There were various things in the movie which needed to be explored more or period really which would have vastly improved it because as it stands it just feels incoherent. It's hard to even say there was an underlying plot as the movie has no real main plot. The movie doesn't necessarily need a plot beyond watching the main characters experience growth except I didn't really see that in this film.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Messy & Underwhelming
With all the hype over The Batman I decided to rewatch the Nolan batman trilogy and I forgot how boring the final movie was. It starts off interesting enough yet seems to go downhill he longer it went on to the point where about halfway through the movie I just wanted it to end. Obviously if this is your first time watching it and especially if you know absolutely nothing about the villain(s) then you'll likely get more enjoyment out of it yet upon rewatch having nothing unexpected to enjoy you focus more on the overreaching plot & dialogue which is far from amazing. The villains are just boring, the story about the child gets your sympathy at first yet they keep retelling it to the point of annoyance, and while you don't necessarily expect a batman movie to be realistic I found myself aggravated seeing the nuclear bomb knocked around(to put it lightly) as um wouldn't that set it off?! I know on that last thing I'm nitpicking but I can't really explain all the reasons why it's a bad movie to be rather it just is. It doesn't help that multiple characters are absent for most of the movie with Detective Gordon being hospitalized, Alfred leaving, batman himself being "retired" at the start, etc. The introduction of "cat woman" was nice I suppose but I can't really say I cared much about her character outside of the fight scenes. The inclusion of Robin at the end was also to put it simply stupid.as it surely gave fans a false impression of a 4th movie with Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing batman or a spinoff about Robin yet these were never remotely planned. I read that they stopped at 3 movies because Nolan specifically wanted to make a trilogy which is kind of the vibe The Dark Knight Rises gives me. It feels like Nolan was focused on making a trilogy, had no good ideas for the final installment, and just decided to throw stuff together in order to meet his quota.
Sebastian (2017)
...Huh?
Despite the whole premise of the movie revolving around cheating I still expected some sort of romantic intrigue that would get me invested in the characters yet for me it never happened. Nelson(the cheated on boyfriend) is barely in the movie yet he's the one I felt the most emotionally invested in. When Alex & Sebastian first meet Nelson somewhat jokingly admonishes his cousin for flirting with his boyfriend yet this is what is literally happening within the first few mins of the movie showing you how little empathy either of these characters posses Sebastian feels a little guilty about the cheating for like 5 secs, Alex claims to but doesn't genuinely seem to feel guilty at all nor ever explains why he's even dating Nelson when he says he doesn't care about him, Alex is the only one of the two local guys shown to have any friends none of which seem to care about his cheating as well as support it seeming to not like Nelson, Nelson's own aunt calls him a fool and supports her other nephew in his cheating, etc all of which conspires to make Alex & Sebastian as well as pretty much everyone else in the movie as highly unlikable. Throwing in the lot of Alex having an affair with his teacher in high school which led to him being sent to prison doesn't make me feel empathetic towards him in the least or at least not enough to make me like his character. I mean in the end it almost feels like Nelson was painted as a villain and I just don't see this instant physical attraction film as romantic. Seems more like a porn plot than a good movie and the latter sounds better. 😂
