  • 1 autistic boy is no longer enough

I am EXTREMELY disappointed. It looks like nowadays no scriptwriter worth his salt will ever think of writing a story that doesn't involve an "idiot savant" or some other unlikely phenomenon (real-life spoiler: YES, most autistic people are just imparied and require the help of others even to cross the street; it's NOT as portrayed in movies AT ALL - I know from experience).

But wait... so, we had this great movie "The Accountant" (I love it too: despite all its flaws, it's one of my favorites) and now we must churn a sequel... What shall we do? Well, here's an idea: why not have a dozen autistic children instead of just one? Great!

This is the All-American mentality: instead of coming up with something new, Amurica just re-tries more of the same crap but in bigger numbers! You like a "Mac"? Well, you'll LOVE a "Big Mac"! Their barren mindspace cannot accomodate for any other variables. Corporate America can only see "volume". They're blind to everything else. No new ideas whatsoever.

Actually, this movie is not even about the "Accountant": it's about a woman who hit her head and because of that, she gained some sort of super powers. They might as well have titled this "Lucy 2" instead of "The Accountant 2"... Jeeezzuzz... the whole plot is so far-fetched, you yourself are in danger of getting an aneurysm just for trying to figure out excuses for this stupid plot.

It also doesn't help that ALL the pseudo-neurological BS is actually a complete fairytale. I almost bursted an hernia with laughter when I heard the expression "acquired savant syndrome"! What the hell?... Are you friggin joking? You might as well have said "she was bitten by a Unicorn in the matting season, so now she has x-ray vision and teleportation powers." It would require as much suspension of disbelief.

Anyway, as an action movie it's a fun watch. Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal always do a good job and are fun to watch. Just make sure to flush aftwards. Keep your head clean of all this stupid BS.

  • Highly overrated, highly predictable, highly frustrating

I started warching this with no prior knowledge about it whatsoever.

I can't understand why is rated so high on IMDB. Maybe because the people who watched this never watched "Fight Club" or "Identity".

By the middle of the 1st episode, I already had figured out the whole plot.

Looks like the script was AI-generated, sourcing material from movies like "The Usual Suspects" (the narrative gimmick of the one-on-one interview springs to mind), and other notable split-personality movies such as "Fight Club", and "Identity" in particular.

As a matter of fact, the script is based on a book that tells the real story of Billy Milligan, the 1st court case in which a defendent pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity due to multiple personalities disorder. "Based" is probably too strong a word, because the series is very far removed from the real case of Billy Milligan, who committed several felonies (including armed robbery) before being arrested on three accounts of rape. So... the story in "The Crowded Room", which portrays a fragile human being who just fends for himself and is uncapable of unjustified acts of violence, turns out to be just a vehicle for a very nuanced and impressive performance from Tom Holland. The whole thing is actually boring, being totally predictable, with no plot twists, with directors indulging in reframing the same scenes over and over (borrowing from "Rashomon"?), and with dull ending.

You will get a much more enjoyable experience from watching "Identity" and "Fight Club".

  • Let's clone "Die Hard" with a girl and her autistic brother

Well, that's just what this is.

It's a lame atteempt at remaking "Die Hard", with these small differences: 1. The hero is a female 2. The hero is a failed military instead of a cop 3. The hero is not married 4. The hero has to take care of her autistic brother 5. The action takes place in London 6. The terrorists are actually unbelievable over-the-top terrorists 7. It sucks

I wonder what will these studios do when they run out of movies with male heroes to clone with female ones? And when will they stop using ridiculous gimmicks like the "Idiot savant", or kids with asthma who lose their inhaler?

The effort to make these things stick is so great, it ruins everything. What a terrible dry spell of creativity these studios are facing...
