Yodha (2024)
Poor direction & acting
Yoddha! A typical formula film but with an excellent plot. To some extent I felt I was watching the rip off, B Grade copy of some B Grade Hollywood movies like Delta Force, White House is Down with all the cheeky dialogues of Chuck Norris or a Channing Tatum being thrown by our very own wannabe Bruce Willis/Big B Mr. Siddharth Malhotra. The casting was good, but somehow the director missed out giving directions to act. Sid Malhotra who is great looking is suited to be a model, but as an actor he is pathetic. I was surprised about Rashi Khanna as she had been great in Farzi, why she was so expression less and pathetic here. Disha Patani was a saving grace as the beautiful terrorist, she did her small part well and I felt she deserved more. The story was great but as usual the narrative let us down and it became a pathetic run of the mill action movie that doesn't work anymore. Skip the headache.
Pathaan (2023)
Super duper irritating movie
"Pathaan," a film that was highly anticipated by fans and critics alike, unfortunately falls short of expectations in more ways than one. With a star-studded cast featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, one would naturally assume that the movie would offer a cinematic experience to remember. However, it disappointingly veers into the territory of a hyped-up action extravaganza with questionable special effects.
The most glaring issue with "Pathaan" is its over-the-top action sequences, which often border on the absurd. While action is a staple in Bollywood films, it should ideally serve the plot and characters, enhancing the overall storytelling. In "Pathaan," it feels like action took precedence over substance, resulting in sequences that are not only unrealistic but also defy the laws of physics. This overindulgence in action detracts from the film's credibility and makes it difficult to suspend disbelief.
Moreover, the special effects (SFX) used in the movie are subpar at best. In an era where cutting-edge technology can bring fantastical worlds to life on the silver screen, "Pathaan" lags behind with effects that appear amateurish and unconvincing. The B-grade SFX are a stark contrast to the high production values one would expect from a film of this caliber.
What makes "Pathaan" all the more disappointing is the stellar track record of its lead actors. Shah Rukh Khan, known for his remarkable performances in films like "Chak de India" and "Swades," seems out of his element in this action-packed spectacle. Deepika Padukone, who has showcased her acting prowess in mature films like "Piku," is left with little room to exhibit her talent in a movie that prioritizes style over substance.
In conclusion, "Pathaan" is a classic case of a film that promised much but delivered little. It succumbed to the pitfalls of excessive hype, over-the-top action, and inadequate special effects, all of which marred the viewing experience. Given the caliber of the talent involved, one can't help but feel let down by this cinematic misstep. Hopefully, in the future, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone will choose projects that do justice to their acting abilities and engage the audience on a more meaningful level.
Bambai Meri Jaan (2023)
Takes you back to Mumbai's Dark Days
"Bambai Meri Jaan" presents a mixed bag of nuances. The series impresses with its exceptional acting and screenplay, yet it raises concerns with its sympathetic portrayal of Mumbai's underworld. While some may appreciate its realistic and noir filmmaking approach, others might find the central character's depiction unsettling. Avinash Tiwari emerges as a rising star in the OTT realm, and Kay Kay Menon delivers yet another outstanding performance.
The supporting cast, featuring talents like Nivedita Bhattacharya, Kirti Kamra, Jatin Gulati, Shiv Pandit, and Saurabh Sachdeva, adds depth and brilliance to the narrative. Drawing parallels with "Narcos," the show delves into the world of Mumbai's underworld, with a particular focus on Dara, the ascending Don.
Critics and viewers should evaluate "Bambai Meri Jaan" not solely through the lens of morality but rather for its captivating storytelling and screenplay, making it a compelling addition to the OTT landscape.
Fukrey 3 (2023)
It is back with a bang
I can't believe it! Once again, we're treated to the uproarious antics of a fantastic ensemble cast. It had been so long since I indulged in the sheer joy of a refreshing and side-splitting Bollywood movie. Pankaj Tripathi, Varun Sharma, Pulkit Samrat, Richa Chaddha, and Manjot Singh, these maestros of comedy, have returned to deliver an unforgettable laughter-packed experience.
This film is nothing short of a total laugh-fest, and it'll have you and your family in stitches from start to finish. With their impeccable comedic timing and chemistry, the cast leaves no stone unturned in ensuring that you have an uproarious time.
And guess what? There's a delightful surprise in store for fans as Ali Fazal makes a special guest appearance. Could this be a subtle hint at the eagerly awaited fourth installment of this franchise? One can only hope, as the chemistry and camaraderie among this talented bunch are simply irresistible.
Now, let's address the elephant in the room. Yes, it did lack a standout musical number that we often associate with Bollywood films. However, don't let that minor detail deter you, because this movie is a complete entertainer in every sense of the word.
I assure you, if you've been a fan of the Fukrey franchise from the beginning, you won't have a single regret about investing your hard-earned money in this cinematic comedy gem.
The film opens with the same madcap energy that we've come to associate with the Fukrey series. The characters we've grown to love over the years are back, and they've brought their A-game when it comes to delivering belly laughs.
Pankaj Tripathi, in his role as Panditji, once again proves why he's one of the most versatile actors in the industry. His impeccable comic timing and deadpan delivery are nothing short of genius. Varun Sharma, as Choocha, continues to be the lovable goofball we can't help but root for. Pulkit Samrat, playing Hunny, effortlessly slips back into his charming yet bumbling character, and Richa Chaddha as Bholi Punjaban is as feisty and unpredictable as ever. Manjot Singh as Lali is a riot, and his antics add a layer of hilarity to the film that's hard to match.
The chemistry among these characters is electric, and it's evident that the actors share a genuine camaraderie both on and off-screen. This camaraderie translates into a seamless on-screen chemistry that is a joy to watch. Their banter, their quirks, and their adventures are the heart and soul of this film.
As the story unfolds, we're treated to a rollercoaster of misadventures, schemes gone awry, and a lot of chaos. The humor is refreshingly unapologetic and bold, and it keeps you laughing throughout. From witty one-liners to slapstick comedy, the film offers a variety of comedic styles that cater to a wide range of tastes.
Ali Fazal's surprise appearance adds an extra layer of intrigue to the film. His character brings an unexpected twist to the story, and it's exciting to think.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023)
Gaudy, baasi and long boring lecture
Bollywood is done with its scripts, stories and concepts. All they can do is stereotype cultures & present a gaudy, noisy and lousy image to half witted audience. The real Indian audience has matured and has got bored of these 'baasi' scripts. It's the same old formula in the movie with lousy remix songs and cliche scenes and dialogues. I mean who speaks half Bengali & half Hindi 🤣🤣. Is every Punjabi uneducated & judgemental of a Kathak dancer or is every Bengali a super intellectual and lover of music and dance? I wish they had invested on the storyline & narrative more than the gaudy sets & costumes. A news reader wearing such sleazy outfits, a Bengali woman who always looks so sensual, a bahu who gives moral education and is know it all saviour of a family where everyone is dumb, houses the size of the White House, hope it's not parallel universe 🤣🤣. The only good thing was good acting by Ranveer Singh, Tota Roychowdhury, Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra Ji. Ranveer will make you laugh and keep the scenes alive while KJO takes us through a stereotyped melodrama. The ending was so half baked & unnecessarily dragged int dramatics. If you have nothing to do, watch it otherwise skip the headache. There are better movies to invest your time on, rather than these kinds.
Heart of Stone (2023)
Poor script and acting
I don't know what is it with Netflix and their obsession with making cheap imitations of James Bond or Mission Impossible. They do not have the mettle needed to produce such stories or movies. This was another cheap stake wannabe spy action movie like the Gray Man with a very poor script which totally fails to engage you. Gal Gadot at her best is a beauty to watch only her amazing looks and not acting, but Christian Gray was a total pass on this. Alia Bhatt like her Bollywood predecessors like Anil Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra is another wannabe who can sign any role just to get her name etched in Hollywood, even if it means a 10 min frame get your bums kicked by the good guy role. No one in recent times except Ali Fazal in Kandahar & Randeep Hooda in Extraction did it so well in English movies & both did not get the limelight back in the Indian media as much as Alia/Priyanka got for the pathetic roles & acting. The movie lacks a consistent plot & it leaves you confused and irritated with all the shooting and running around. I wonder how it even managed to get 5.7 rating while it should have been way below 4. Skip this or watch it if you have nothing better to watch. Heart of Stone is going to bore you through.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
Touch and Go
Totally illogical storyline with some beautiful songs. A middle aged waiter in London who makes extra bucks by singing on the street suddenly gets the 'fitoor' of joining the prestigious and difficult to enter Indian army as an officer and has suddenly become a bomb squad expert who has diffused 97 bombs without any safety gear. SRK does pull out his usual charm and Katrina looks ravishing while Anushka is a touch and go. Songs, background musical score is the only thing that makes the movie worth watching once. The Yash Raj gang needs to understand that the modern Indian audience needs matured content and has got bored of same run of the mill movie storylines. Just watched it to remind myself of lost love, otherwise the movie doesn't make sense.
