House M.D. (2004)
House is "cant miss" television
As a guy who has never gotten into "E.R." or really ANY medical show since maybe "Quincy", the fact that I am writing this is quite a testament to this show. You know, there actually are similarities between Quincy or Trapper John MD from the 70's and House. House is kinda like Trapper John MD on steroids though.
The characters are awesome, especially Dr. House. Love his cynicism, acerbic wit and intolerance of stupid questions. Like many of the previous posts say, you cant wait to hear what he will say next. Omar Epps has come a long way since playing Willie Mays Hays in "Major League II", Jennifer Morrison is gorgeous, and Robert Sean Leonard hasn't been this good since "Dead Poets Society".
The cases freak me out each week, and it seems like almost every commercial break I breathe a sigh of relief as I am allowed to back off the edge of my seat for 3 minutes or so. Really gives you pause about the tenuousness of life, as most of these people were fine and then their bodies went haywire.
If you like most medical shows, you will love House. If you aren't a big medical show fan, give House a two week trial, and you will be a fan of House.
White Noise (2005)
A "noisey" disappointment
Having seen the trailers when it came out, it seemed like this would be a very creepy and exciting film, so I was eager to see it once it was finally released for rental.
After watching it, I regrettably have to say it was not worth the anticipation. Far too long to develop, this movie had me on the edge of boredom before it finally got into the heart of the subject matter. Once there, it became too hard for me to swallow all the things they were throwing at me. The final scene was too long and padded and dark to follow and take in, and then just got way to ridiculous for any shred of believability.
It had some chills, but to me those were just outweighed by the things I mentioned in the previous paragraph.
However, on the DVD "bonus features" segment, the documentary where the camera crew followed around two ACTUAL EVP researchers doing their thing. The recordings they made were way freakier to me than the actual movie.
Hot Dog ...The Movie (1983)
forgot how amusing this was
Watching this film on TBS for the first time in well over a decade, and it is eliciting a refreshing, favorable memory. One of the stupid, silly, yet entertaining T & A party movies of the 80s, it has many hilarious moments for me. What was especially funny was the pitiful attempts to overdub the swearing to make this airable on network TV (but not seeing the nudity sucks). In the unedited version is one of the classic lines in a comedy--the Japanese skier (Kamikaze), who doesnt utter one word of English in the whole movie up til this point saying "Whatta da fukka is a Chinese downhill?". Tracy N. Smith (Sunny) was a total FOX in this flick.
