Creative Writing (2018)
Hilarious!
It feels like a #metoo movement inspired film. In this current climate, even the slightest sign of flirtation between opposite genders can lead to damaging consequences. "Creative Writing" reflects on the inappropriate relationship between the pupil and the professor, as both aspire to become writers. Even though there is a platonic thing going on, the false gossips and rumors are making a hostile environment for both parties involved. We see these similar stories happening in everyday life, and this short film perfectly hints at these kinds of issues, which can be exaggerated out of proportions by the mass media.
Phenomenal Woman (2018)
Hilarious and Brilliant
"Phenomenal Woman" is a mockumentary comedy that makes fun of the movie-making industry of Hollywood. Fame can fade at a certain point, as one grows older to face rejection and prejudice. In this film within a film, we can witness how older women are mistreated and/or not considered for a significant role at all. Sexism, ageism, and misogynism are the underlining themes in this short. Many female actors can identify with the main character, for it conveys a realistic image of Hollywood itself.
Callie (2016)
Insightful
In this five-minute film, the director's message, scene after scene, conveys a powerful theme. A compelling drug addiction story that's relatable to many adolescents and adults within the American society. The film takes a dark turn when the protagonist experiences delusions, unable to distinguish reality from fiction. Cinematically shot in black-and-white with a haunting score, "Callie" is a film worth watching.
Hot Seat (2017)
Sexiness Can Be Slick
Set in New York City, 2017, "Hot Seat" is a sexy film that burns with the fires of passion. Each frame is filled with desire and romance, even as past relationships seldom fade, and bad habits die hard. Strolling together through time within Time Square, every couple is bound to meet the scars of secrecy. Beautiful and elegant short film with an unexpected ending.
Jump (2021)
Thought-Provoking
Haunted by self-shame, the clown carries the heavy burden of weariness, as represented within the matching color pallets, specifically between his costume and the leaves of early autumn in the background. This is all due to lack of confidence, as people see through him. More than that, wherever he goes, the color red serves as the main theme in all aspects - the matchbox, the matchstick, the balloon, the nose, the suspenders, the ribbons, and the shoes. Perhaps to represent the detours of confusion, making him wander aimlessly from his sense of purpose. So, as he removes his costume, he unloads the heaviness of malarkey. He feels free! He clears his mind within the embrace of Mother Earth to achieve peace within - completely surrounded by the green colors of prosperity. Surprisingly, it is the same color from the green jacket in his premonition - a vision of himself gaining approvals from a cheering audience, in order to gain the sense of completeness. Amazingly, it is the same feeling he manifested throughout most of his career, until the day he surrenders himself into the serenity of nature. Genius!
