My School President (2022)
Healing show, outstanding chemistry
If you are looking for a cute and pure love story with good music, this is the right show for you. The story follows Gun who dreams to be a singer and his secret crush Tin, who turns out to be the school president and his classmate. I didn't expect much when the trailer of this series came out; however, when I started watching the highlights of the show, I somehow fell in love with them and their pure love story. Gemini and Fourth's chemistry in this series is outmatched, and I think they contribute a lot to the success of this series.
Tin is the ultimate green flag in his story, as he is always supportive of Gun's dream and helps him in every way he can. He lets himself be the faceless supporter of Gun, just for Gun to shine and achieve his dream. Meanwhile, Gun, being the lovely and bright person himself, shows his determination to fulfil his dream and his love to his single mom. I was so consumed by the lovely interaction between Tin and Gun, the shyness of the first love and their affection towards each other. Just a hold of the hands or subtle touches can make viewers' hearts flutter. The notebook kiss is extremely adorable, and how they set the mood for the scene is just right.
Throughout the show, friendship, family, dream and companionship were carefully displayed, making the drama meaningful at different levels. Additionally, the covers of multiple Thai popular songs are well-executed, and the creativity they put in remixing the songs and even creating a parody for Just Being Friendly was worth looking out for.
Together with Me: The Next Chapter (2018)
Terrible way to end KornKnock's story
This story is a bad sequel to both Together With Me and Bad Romance. I do not understand what the scripwriter thought when writing the story for this sequel since the characters were so out of their personalities in the previous parts.
Korn and YiHwa, the most two loveable characters in TWM and BR both cheated on their partners with unjustified reasons. It was a shock to me when seeing the brave, resilient and selfless Korn in TWM would react that badly to his comeout to his parents. And also YiHwa, the righteous one swayed in front of his boss. The side stories of Farm and Faii were out of place as well. No more of a fun gang to solve the problem like in TWM or BR. The only reason I watched the movie was for the actors' actings.
If you want to watch MaxTul in better stories, just rewatch Together With Me or Manner Of Death.
Red, White & Royal Blue (2023)
Good as a romcom, but lack in depth. Hope it would be a series
This review is based on the movie only, not related to the book.
The film has a good opening, capturing audience with the iconic cake scene and interaction between Alex and Henry. The scene in the hospital was well-made as well, heading off a good start. The romantic and spicy scenes are beautifully directed, not too exposing but still leaving audience in gasp. The background, music, costumes are well-prepared, and every shot is beautiful. You can just randomly pause at any moment and capture an aesthetic photo. The castings were superb, from Alex, Henry to Zhara, POTUS. However, when it comes to other aspects such as character and relationship development, or normal logic, there were still apparent bugs that cannot go unnoticed.
A question I asked myself after watching was how and why Alex loved Henry. While Alex is shown to be so competent, charming, attractive, intelligent, intellectual as American golden boy, Henry is nothing but a prince with a rebellious side, albeit a bit rude and immature. It can be said that the whole movie is from Alex's perspective, but the movie should at least give us a reason that Henry is a match with Alex, in terms of competence and thoughtfulness. It will make their love story more meaningful than just sexual attraction.
The relationship development between the leads are rushed. I think the reason was they try to get everything from the book into the movie. I can barely catch up with the emotions of the characters, from angsty to romantic, it is hard for me to follow and really feel the characters without re-watching.
Lastly, some illogical scenes and bad jokes. I am not a political person, but the last scene when they all went up the stage to congratulate the POTUS made me confused. He should not be there. Off-stage is fine, but not on-stage. Besides, some of the comedic scenes ruined the image of Prince Henry. When he asked which color was which party made me roll my eyes. Or when he tried to lift the mood for Alex by asking about his tie color was insensitive as well. It should be sweet, but it came out irritated rather than swoony.
All in all, the movie is a good headstart for this genre; however, with all the preparation, investment, and perfect casting, the movie should have been better. I will root for them if they have a sequel or any other movie-related contents.
KinnPorsche the Series La 'forte (2022)
A series that goes beyond a BL series
This series has undoubtedly set a new bar for all BL series with breathtaking angles, cinematography, soundtracks, and actings from the cast.
The storyline is improved drastically from the original novel, bringing all characters to life with more maturity.
R scenes are done perfectly, not revealing, but enough to send out the emotions and feelings of the characters in that moment, while making the audience asking for more.
I think the crew has portrayed a story about people falling in love in a rather dark, shady and cruel world quite well, especially the freedom part, making us reflect on ourselves about the "freedom" that we are talking about everyday.
In short, this is a series that worth a try from everyone due to all the efforts and emotions that it gives to the viewers. From comedy, to action, drama, and romance.
Theory of Love (2019)
A series where everything can happen
The series is closely based on the novel, Theory of Love. The plot surrounding a boy who habors feelings for his best friend for 3 years. Each episode is based on one romantic film, which is very amusing to me. I love the fact that the crew even creates parody of those films' posters. Although the series is labeled rom-com, there are so many tears and heartbreaks. The special episode is cute as well, and it creates a well-rounded and heart-warming ending.
Not Me (2021)
A series that goes beyond BL stereotype
This is one of the best Thai series I've ever seen, regardless the gender. The show voices several problems of the society and raises the spirit to fight for justice and equality.
The actings of the cast are so well, especially the two protagonists. The twin roles were so hard to play since it has to be totally different in the way they convey their sorrow and their happiness. Meanwhile, the role of Sean was hard as well since he has many sides of him and he treats others around him differently. All the casts are really good in general and bring satisfying performances.
Another reason that I love this series is its soundtracks. The crew has done an excellent job in choosing the songs for each scene, so that all the emotions were conveyed thoroughly to the viewers. The angles, cinematography were beautiful as well. This will be a turning point in the series industry in Thailand. I promise you won't regret watching this.
