Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
Best adaptation of an HP yet
I thought Order of the Phoenix was the best adaption of any of the HP books as of yet. It's a big book to tackle, that's for sure. But the writers and director uses tricks such as quick flashbacks and cutaways to condense the book into a mere 2 hours and 20mins. If I wasn't so tired at 2:30am last night I would have wanted more. And still I'd love for a directors cut when the double discs come out at Christmas time. Was it a perfect movie? No, but as an avid reader it was a perfect adaption of one of my favorite books. Again add an hour to it please, it would have been much better. I can't fault OOP though, this was the best installment so far. The angst and darkness of Harry's situation was played perfectly.
Some things that bothered me and of course spoiler warning abound: The use of Ginny Weasley and her "Strong powers." I'm guessing the slight nudge to the 6th book was needed there, for those of who know nuff said. But please, it's well known that Hermione is one of the most remarkable witches of her generation, probably the best. To have Ginny generating immense power, and packing a huge punch while Hermione can barely produce a spark is insulting. Let's stop with the insinuations here and stick to the facts instead of Ship preferences.
That was my only gripe. Other than that this was a service to the fans of the books and nothing more. I'm sorry if those of you still didn't get it, then go out and read the series you may be clued in. But I'm guessing those who felt disjointed with HP were prolly feeling out of the loop. And rightly so, this was one of the first movies as of yet to be a totally fan-service.
Transformers (2007)
A first for any "robot movie" Will pave the way for others
Transformers has opened the doors for many filmmakers to come. The plot, which some have described as limping its way out the door was just perfectly paced with Shia at the helm. What can you ask for in a movie that has broken all barriers and set us up for a summer blockbuster. To me this movie is in the same family as Independence Day with an array of characters taking little bits and pieces of this film as their own. While some characters dwindled towards the end I think time constraints was one of the only factors in that regard.
If it was a 3 hour movie Bay might have been able to include more of a conclusion for those loose ends that left us hanging in the end. Overall there was nothing lacking in this movie. If you wanted an emotion and character driven movie go see Evening. If you want to see a fun action film that will have you ready to get right back in line to see it again see Transformers.
Speilburg's thumbprint was all over this film and it's good to see Bay actually flex his muscles and come out on top for once.
Now we can wait patiently for other filmmakers thinking about such live action movies like Gundam Wing and Escaflowne all inspired by manga and anime. This has truly shown the public not only can live action robots be done, but done well.
There was nothing campy about this movie, head out as soon as you can it's worth every red cent.
A homerun for Transformers I can't wait for the sequels.
Superman Returns (2006)
Supehead coming out of hiding
I just saw Superman returns and since there's no room for many words let alone a comment let me sum up this movie briefly and concisely. If you're a Superman fan.... through and through loving every bit of variations that Superman has donned the last few decades get ready to love this movie. I squeaked and loved every bit of it. If you're looking for a no brainer with lots of cool cgi and action then rent King Kong. Superman returns is the 3rd installment that Donner should have made and Singer has done a phenomenal job. I'm going to see it again tomorrow in hopes of absorbing more of the greatness. All I can say for those who thought the movie dragged on..... well too bad this is Superman and all that he is. He's in love with Lois Lane, he overcompensates by trying to take on the world and yeah he has a bit of a hero complex. This was awesome, awe inspiring and a great time Singer has taken a legend in comic fandom and brought it to life in a way that makes me feel like tonight I was a part of something huge. Maybe how movie goers felt in 1978 when the original Superman was released. A must see for any fan or fellow Supehead.
Ju-on (2002)
Third installment
I just want the reviewer to know this is the third installment of the storyline. I'm mixed emotionally about the fourth movie It could be great and with the original director it could be excellent. THat's all it needs really. So if the third movie of a trilogy confuses you go get the first two! :) They're awesome I've never been so scared to go to bed before and scared of my closet.

Joyû-rei (1996)
Chilling
For his first ever debut this film has some riveting and chilling moments. In the best horror film fashion the pit of your stomach tightens every moment during this film. The ending is superb. The makers of Blaire Witch obviously watched this film it's ending wasn't an end but a beginning of the end. A great movie and only a piece of Japan's great as far as scare factor a perfect score it makes you think and scared out of your mind.
Bend It Like Beckham (2002)
Masterful and brilliant
In the age of wonderful little movies such as "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "28 Days", "Bend it Like Beckam" has begun to make waves where once was ripples. After seeing this film laughing all through the credits and enjoying every moment of it I am left in great awe and thankful for it's world wide release. After missing the boat earlier this spring to see "Bend it Like Beckam" in selected venues I ran to see it at my local theatre and kicked my self senseless that I had waited this long. There weren't too many plots or ill advised story lines going no-where; There was however a great story being told about two families with talented girls who exceeded at an under appreciated sport by many Americans today. The Soccer footage was unreal keeping the audience right in the game. The family had their issues but were also sweet and endearing like many families. "Bend it Like Beckam" is a must see for anyone looking to spend a few bucks on a great time at the movies. I'm going to see this film again it's a moment that can't be cloned on vhs or dvd. Go out and see this film and experience for yourself this years sleeper and sure fire winner.
Roswell (1999)
Spellbounding
To some it's just a TV show to others the mere thrill of Tuesday nights can wake you up early in the morning. A masterful switch to UPN Roswell has come a long way from it's first season young sophomoric romance. The characters have become webbed within the lore of Roswell and the 1947 crash. Season one showed a lighthearted romance between not one but three different couples. Our focus wasn't stirred from the stars of the show though. Liz Parker played by Shiri Appleby and Max Evans played by Jason Behr brought to light a love labor lost romance. We sat intrigued and amazed as these two fell madly in love on the screen. Maria Deluca played by Majandra Delphino and Alex Whitman played by Colin Hanks were well cast as the comedic keys for this Teen Sci-fi drama. A well-supported cast Isabel Evens played by Katherine Hiegl and Michael Geurin played by Brendan Fehr the other two aliens in the mix. The first season had me at the edge of my seat and squirming with hilarious one liners and brilliant love scenes.
Shiri Appleby and Jason Behr sizzle on the screen no matter their characters' woes. Season two opened hard into the Sci-fi aspect with a new main character Tess played by Emilie DeRavin. A spice thrown into the cake Tess's character was one you loved to hate. She was a test to Max and Liz's relationship. With Destiny at hand we were dealt numerous confusing plot devices. The story of these alien teenagers become more complicated by the episode. Also a shift in female leads occurred in the second season. Isabel Evens was thrust in front to maybe lure and broaden the male audience. With this in place the main couple Liz and Max were thrown into angst as Tess moved in slowly but surely. By the end of Season two post Hybrid Chronicles we saw a flicker in the Roswell Staff writing. Cry Your Name exemplified a brilliant performance by the entire cast and set forth the end of one of the most underused member Colin Hanks. Soon Emilie DeRavin's character Tess was also sent aside but not without more obstacles for Liz and Max.
It seems to be a re-occurring theme for Liz and Max the show's star-crossed lovers to be kept apart. The characters are changing some for the better and some for the worst. Yet I still sit spellbound for every episode that Jason Katims and Co can give me. The writing though sometimes rebutted by its Internet audience as inane can have you slapping your head in disbelief. Roswell as a whole has the opportunity to wipe out the world with Roswellian fever. If only the writers would get it right. This show is amazing yet it once was out of this world. This has left many old viewers turning away. I urge though for any new fan out there to watch this show it is unlike anything you have ever seen before.
