Will Trent: Do You See the Vision? (2024)
How to kill a show in one episode
I liked this, i really did. Interesting stories, solid cast with a few meta-storylines. The cases were neither overly complicated nor too shallow, so when season 3 was announced a while back, i was looking forward to that.
Then comes along this episode, that must clearly have been the result of a bet or overuse of controlled substances. Maybe someone wanted to show, that you actually CAN kill a show with a single episode. None of this made any sense, the stupid story, the wooden acting (well maybe the actors were ashamed), the completely ridiculous artificial suspension and drama and let me not even get into the dialogue.
The worst thing is - this cannot be fixed. Whatever comes next must be based on this lunacy and becomes therefore irrelevant itself.
What a shame.
Lou (2022)
keeps getting worse
This is one of those wovies, that starts out with an interesting setup, but keeps getting progressively worse over time.
The surprises aren't really surprising, the characters manage to get ever more bland and stereotype as you learn more about their background and the "suspense" scenes feel awkwardly out of place.
There are some decent action scenes and cinematography is not bad either but the story is incredibly boring.
Why would you want to bring Iran into this story at all? Just to have a "good" and "bad" side?
There was enough material to fill a single episode for a tv show, but absolutely not enough for an entire movie.
Feels like a lost chance.
The Man Who Fell to Earth: Changes (2022)
Terrible Episode
I already noticed, that the show becomes more soapy with every episode, but this one was unbearable in its sugarcoated and unreflective sentimentality. Chiwetel is still good, but no miracle could save this dumpster fire.
In a time when people are seriously struggling to keep above water, they bring out an episode about "look how great we really have it" along some so called traditional values? That is a cruel joke and a slap in the face.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
Visually great, terrible story
While the visuals and animation in this are great, i find the writing extremely poor.
The story is a mess, mostly devoid of any logic and badly told. Most of the charcters don't make any sense at all.
With most of the scenes not having any backgraound characters, you have to wonder where in some fight scenes all the villains come fom.
It is a remarkable achievement to bore me this much while looking so good.
Army of Thieves (2021)
Way better than Army of the Dead
This is a heist movie and as such it may have some minor lengths, but overall it is very enjoyable and a lot better than Army of the Dead.
Nice production design, good actors and okayish dialogues.
Sex Education: Episode 8 (2021)
Hope and Joy in S3
What i liked:
Pretty much all actors in this show are really good, that is more than you can say about most tv shows.
The character development in general is quite good, even side characters aren't neglected.
Ruby and Adam were my favorites this season. Adam was written and played so delicately, it was a real joy watching him. Ruby started as a selfcentered fashionista and finished as a strong woman, literally a fighter.
Hope actually was a likeable villain and beautifully portayed in her torn existence.
What i didn't like so much:
The show goes too far in the direction of YA drama and mostly isn't comedy anymore, that part is almost solely left to Aimee.
The Otis/Maeve relationship is long overdue and has been dragged on for way too long. There would be enough material in developing a solid trust among those two presumably smart people, so please let them.
I really don't see a reason for the "Cal" character. It is a wannabe renegade stoner, that i didn't care about one bit.
Apart from his strong and loyal support for Otis, Eric is quite a narcisistic arse in this season.
What i hope for S4:
Bring back some lightness from S1 and stop going in the "dark" direction.
Let Maeve/Otis be happy, S2 seamed to be all about torturing Maeve and that was painful to watch, i want to see them at easy and without the tension, i want smart dialogues between Maeve and Jean, and Otis helping people.
Let Adams evolution continue and give us more fighting Ruby, that was awesome.
Blood Red Sky (2021)
Decent start, then epic fail
Not much to say, really. If it weren't for the "+10 sec" button, i'd never have seen more than the first 40 min. Started mashing that button and eventually skipped to the end.
After an interesting setup, the makers of this movie went to great lengths to disappoint on absolutely every level.
Table 19 (2017)
Relaxed Romcom, didn't see it coming
If you read this review, then by now you probably want to find out if it is worth the time.
To make it short: I beleive it is.
Recently there were so many movies and TV shows, that got worse and worse toward the end, that it was something between a relief and a surprise to find a movie, that actually kept getting better.
There are no massive surprises, but you really get to like the characters that initially you thought were just plain boring. And while everything is quite simple really, this movie will make for a relaxed evening or afternoon and put a little smile on your face.
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
A mixed bag
The Georgia character is clearly the strength of this show. She is portayed well and her background story is captivating.
Ginny is apparently supposed to help show how much here mothers decisions are based on her urge to protect her kids. And how that turns her into a insufferable brat.
Austin is completely useless and i hope he disappears if a second season should come. He was probably only invented to give an excuse for having a babysitter in the house occasionally.
One reappearing theme is the worn out talk about secrets and how they supposedly do harm. Noone ever, not even once challenges this nonsense. My secrets are my own and i get to chose what i share and with whom! Everybody has a right to their privacy and not telling something is not even keeping a secret, it is simply a choice that you have the right to make. Making this misunderstanding the center of all the teeny drama is annoying and doesn't advance the plot.
Overall i liked the show, but i would prefer more Georgia and a lot less teenagers.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Not recommended
To make it short, the production design is good, Gal Gadot is gorgeous, but there isn't anywhere near enough story for a 90 min movie, let alone 151 min.
Everything seems drawn out and you frequently find yourself wanting to fast forward, just to get past the numbing boredom.
Of course, you shouldn't just take my word for it, but i think there are much better ways to waste your time.
The Watch (2020)
Not so bad after all
Obviously someone thought it necessary to wokewash a story, that was about the most inclusive anyone ever imagined, but that aside and although lots of storylines got dumped to get to a point that wasn't yet reached in "guards, guards", which apparently seems the rough basis for this, i quite liked the early Vimes character and Lady Sibil, Carot and Angua are reasonably recognizable.
The design is not so bad and i think it was a good choice not to cling too tighlty to the books, simply because you couldn't possibly get it right for the fans anyway.
Just drop the picture in your head, that you got from reading and take this as something different, then you should find this rather entertaining.
Titans: Atonement (2019)
A train wreck of an episode
While i really like the show, this specific episode is a desaster on so many levels.
The actions of literally every single character make absolutely no sense at all. Miniscule problems get inflated beyond any reasonable scale, characters overreact in one situation, then don't react at all, when obvious replies to illogical accusations are painfully not uttered.
The dialogues have never been brilliant, but here they are quite unbearable.
In general the motivation for the portayed actions is inconclusive, to say the least.
Even the usually great camera work is missing.
I very much hope the ensuing episodes will return to higher standards, because so far this season has been more teaser than actual delivery.
Lost in Space (2018)
Way beyond Netflix standards
Watching a scifi show, i do not expect scientific accuracy, but in the very least things should not be plain stupid (water freezing from the inside out, srsly?).
Characters relations are nonsensical, their behaviour erratic, dialogues are extremely poor, after suffering through the first half hour, i jumped through the rest of the first episode and after reading the synopsis of the rest i decided to leave it be.
Waste of time.
