Baburu (2022)
Not complex, but beautiful
The story is rather basic, not Bad, i really enjoyed it, but not the kind of story you think about afterwards. What really elevates the story are the characters, which are also rather simple, but so likeable you just want to see them succeed and be happy, and the beautiful animation and soundtrack.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
If you waste a good villain to a stupid magic system and unbelievable stakes
What I relly liked about this movie is that Wanda goes full villain mode now, after in WandaVision she was still framed as a hero stopping to enslave a whole town.
The problem in this film was, it gave me no understanding for the magic system whatsoever. The battles served the main purpose of being fun, wich for example the music battle against evil doctor strange certainly was, but in the greater scale this fight does not fit into the doctor strange magic system at all.
America's powers (btw who calls their kid America and why does she wear a jacket with the US flag on it) where not explained at all, there was not even a reason why she should be the only one with these powers, so there is no reason to assume that the next Marvel movie is not about someone else with the same powers appearing randomly, like she did.
Perhaps the worst part of the magic system was Wanda's power scaling. In one scene, she literally rewrites reality, makes the mouth of someone just disappear, and in the next scene she uses her powers to drop a statue on captain marvel, luckily for her the strongest being in the universe aside from her and Thanos dies from a falling statue.
The last problem I want to address is that the stakes were too high. A movie has to find a balance in wich the stakes are big enough for me to care, but low enough that I believe the hero could actually loose. But if the threat is the destruction of the multiverse, I know from the beginning that that's not gonna happen, even if it's just because I have already seen the trailer for the next Thor movie. If the stakes were something like "The scarlet witch will eradicate all sorcerers who could potentially stop her" I would believe that there is a chance Strange might loose, but modern marvel movies always have to threaten with the destruction of the world or even universe, wich is just too much.
Anyways, this movie is still fun, if you seek a movie that looks great, has interesting characters and can entertain you for 2 hours, this is the one, but you should not go into the cinema expecting a world that makes you think about what could have happened, since the rules of this world are just to inconsistent to construct any "What if" scenarios.
