Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Fans: Be honest about this movie!
As a fan of the FNAF franchise and someone who is well versed in the lore, I was excited for this movie and was pleasantly impressed with the animatronics. They were excellently executed by the Creature Shop team. But that is where my praise ends.
Acting: Decent with the slop they were given.
Plot: The plot of the first FNAF game doesn't really offer alot to work with at face value and it seems that's all they used for the script.
Plot holes:
- The aunt's true motives are never sufficiently explained. No government check explains her voracious interest in Abby. Then again, she is most likely dead given the way the ghost boy spoke about her being "asleep".
- Vanessa's hot and cold relationship with the animatronics is just bizarre.
- Vanessa knows her father is a serial killer and she's a cop!
- Vanessa's one supposed "job" is to keep Mike in the dark or kill him if he learns too much about the truth yet she can't do that right because building that table fort with the possessed animatronics was too hard for her to ignore.
- Vanessa decides to threaten to shoot a civilian because Mike hesitantly let his sister hang out with the same ghost kids from the previously mentioned table fort.
- They clearly mentioned that Garrett was in Nebraska but just happened to run into his killer in Minnesota.
- By reading a book, playing nature sounds, and taking unnamed prescription pills, Mike is able to lucidly dream the same dream every night. How?
- Why did the aunt and her goons think that trashing the pizzeria during the day would affect Mike's employment? He doesn't work day shift.
- Why did Vanessa come to Mike's home with the bogus threat of "criminal negligence"? Leaving a door unlocked to an abandoned pizza joint is not something that equates to disregarding serious harm...
- Mike waited way too long to ask Vanessa why she's so familiar with the pizzeria and its interior. She presented far too much knowledge for someone who has the place "on her beat". She even had a key to private property!
- For a cop, Vanessa managed to spend multiple hours at the pizzeria.
- Four murders happen in the pizzeria since Mike started working there. Vanessa is aware of this situation and so is Mike.
- When counselor Afton saw Mike's last name, the entire tone of their conversation changed. It was jarring and incredibly noticeable.
- Also, the scene with Counselor Afton implied that Mike had a working relationship with him. This is not their first encounter with each other.
Unanswered questions:
- How did William Afton change his identity?
- How was Mike able to be keep that house after his parents died?
- At what age did Mike's parents die? Abby knew them.
-How was Abby able to channel the ghost kids?
- How did Golden Freddy manage affect the cab with his weight if he was not even there?
- Speaking of the cab, who called him?
- How do the ghost kids hurt Mike in his dream and the damage carried over to the real world?
- What was the purpose of the murder chair? Afton didn't make it since his MO is stabbing people and stuffing their bodies in animatronic suits.
- Why even hire Mike to work at the pizzeria?
Bob's Burgers: Zero Larp Thirty (2017)
Unrealistic Premise
Spoilers below:
Summary:
This episode centers around Linda winning a contest to participate in a Winthrope Manor (Downton Abbey spoof) LARP. Bob tags along as her plus one. When they arrive, they find out that they have been randomly assigned as servant characters. Chaos ensues when Linda encourages other LARPers who have been assigned as servants to rise up against the people who have been assigned as the upper-class characters.
Review:
Why would anyone participate in a contest where there is a chance that they would be a servant to a stranger? For that matter, why would they pay for this experience? They wouldn't but that's what this episode's story relies on.
It's a terribly contest idea. Of course, the LARPers who get to roleplay as the rich upper crust characters will have a great time and the servant role players will have a worse time, especially if the rich guys abuse this situation.
