Âya to majo (2020)
A disgrace to ghibli
Ignoring the clumpy and annoying 3d animation, earwig and the witch is about a surprisingly spoiled and bratty orphan who continues to be spoiled and bratty throughout, by the time the story feels like it is finally unfolding into an actual plot, the movie ends.
I don't understand the point, I don't enjoy a single character, in fact the main character may be my most hated character of all time?
I'm used to ghibli whimsy and lack of explanation, as generally magic is magic and that's all that needs to be said, so fine, but with how the movie plays out it feels like a series that got canned and then compiled its already filmed parts together to form a movie?
And it is claimed to be a musical but the movie only has one song that it repeats over and over which becomes annoying fast.
Maybe I'm missing something but it doesn't feel like this movie is a movie, it doesn't feel like anything but a waste of time.
Baburu (2022)
The little mermaid with parkour
I thoughtvthe animation was lovely, despite some moments that looked a lot like an animated gif in a dress game which felt off putting, the music was amazing, I will say that, overall I didn't dig the little mermaid but with parkour in a semi dystopian Tokyo caused by what might be alien bubbles? I'm not sure if it's because I watched it in dub that some plot points might have been missing? The parkour competitive aspect seemed odd and pointless? There was a mention of a food bonus upon winning but again everyone was here by choice?
The rest of the movie was literally the plot of the original little mermaid which they bring up many times..
It felt like it would of been better as a shirt film featuring some of the story, parkour moments and song rather then a feature length film.
