Heaven's Gate (1980)
A tremendous waste of acting, scenery and sets!
I didn't want to believe all the bad hype about the movie but it was true. Ninety minutes of waiting for something to happen or to make sense and 45 of action but still no sense. Before actual filming, it had everything to make it a great historic fantasy...and then the director arrived. It could have been cut another 30 minutes easily. Some of the scenes could have been cut in half and this movie still would have made as much sense (which wasn't a lot). The scenery was fantastic and the interior set designs were great as well as the costumes and lighting. Acting was more than adequate. Unfortunately, until the last 20 minutes or so, the movie was just plain boring.
Brazen Impact (2022)
Much Better than your average Indi movie !!
It's a crime movie that's got its all: the beautiful missing girl, a questionable hero, witness protection, and a mysterious villain. Unlike most independent, low budget movies, this one has a surprising talented cast. Standouts include: George Stover as the Chief Inspector, Sharon Smyth Lentz as Sarah and Dinka Doll as Vika. Veteran movie star Helene Udy, whose TV and Film career took off after portraying one of the main characters in the movie "My Bloody Valentine", gave an emotional performance.
Director Mark Byrne incorporated all his training and experiences from his past films to make a fine movie. Granted, Brazen Impact will not be nominated for an Oscar but it's an enjoyable film. ...and if it had the financial backing of Major Studio, you'd be seeing this on HBO.
