The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Lonesome Parents (1962)
"You sure you just had a malted milk to drink tonight?"
Harriet is writing a letter to her mother to keep her up to date with what's been going on with their family. She tries to tell her about the things Ricky has been doing recently when he comes home, but he keeps telling her something different so she decides to start over. Ozzie suggests that she told her mother about Dave and June. She tells him that she doesn't have any news on them since she hasn't talked to them in a while. She realizes later that she hasn't spoken to them for over a week. She wonders why they haven't called since June usually calls her every couple days.
They think about calling them, but Harriet says that we'll probably hear from them pretty soon. But her and Ozzie do end up trying to call them at the same time. Hopes that they're all right and that they're not tied up. Ozzie tells her she's been watching too much TV.
This was another clever episode for the series. As it deals with Ozzie and Harriet adjusting to Dave being married and building his life with June.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Lending Money to Wally (1962)
"I see what you mean. Good thinking, son."
Ricky, Wally, Charlie and Jimmy are trying to find something going on so they can take their girlfriends out. They decide to take the girls out to dinner but don't know where to take them. Rick suggests the Persian Terrace since that isn't run down and a good place to take the girls.
Ricky, Charlie and Jimmy say they can scrape up the money to take the girls. Wally says he can't because he has other plans that night. The guys begin to get suspicious when they see Wally doing his own laundry and not eating with them at the malt shop. The guys deduce Wally is broke and decide to lend him some money to help him out with some bills they perceive he is behind on.
This was a good episode. It was very nice to see the guys come together to help Wally out.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Making Wally Study (1962)
"Well, you can't win them all."
A letter from the Dean of Men arrives for the fraternity. The boys wonder why the Dean would want to talk to them. When they open it, the Dean wants them to send someone over to meet him in his office at 3.
At the Dean's office, he tells them that he has noticed that their scholastic average for their fraternity is beginning to fall behind. He tells Wally and Rick that they have good students who make good grades. They need to get their scholastic average up or their fraternity will be put on social probation.
The boys at the fraternity start to study harder to keep from going on probation. All except for Wally. The boys realize that Wally needs to be forced to study to keep up. Wally has to break dates with his girlfriend Ginger so he has Rick fill in for him with different things.
This is another classic episode and Wally does play his part so well. He is truly wonderful. He appeared in over 130 episodes of the series and was a delightful addition.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Operation Barry (1962)
"I like strawberry."
Barry and his friend Kim head over to see to see Harriet. Barry tells her that he's going to be having a tonsillectomy soon. She tells him that Dave and Ricky also had their tonsils removed. He tells her that Doc Williams will be performing the operation. Harriet says not to worry Dr Williams is the best. He heads over to the garage to tell Ozzie about his operation.
In the garage, Wally and Ricky are there with Ozzie. Wally tells Ozzie that they are having a little get together at the fraternity and was wondering what they could do to entertain the boys. They get on to doing a medical comedy sketch, an operation. That is when Barry and his friend Kim walk in. Ozzie asks if they would like to see a surgery done. Barry says yes and asked if they could do a tonsillectomy. Ozzie says of course they can and proceeds to do the comedy sketch with Rick and Wally.
The comedy sketch ends up frightening poor Barry and he no longer wants to have the operation done. Ozzie now must convince Barry to go through with the operation.
And this was very funny and only her yes to watch. It was nice to see them do an old comedy sketch with the medical routine through the silhouette of a curtain.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Fraternity Cook (1962)
"You keep away from our cook!"
The boys at the fraternity have not been too satisfied with the food that they've been eating lately. Wally says that they're cook just doesn't make meatloaf like Mrs. Nelson. Harriet says that there are a lot of different ways to make meatloaf and then maybe it's not the cook.
The boys decide that they will have a little talk with their cook, Mrs. Murray. Jimmy, Wally and Rick try to gently tell her about her cooking. She tells them that it's not easy cooking for 40 growing young men all with different tastes. Wally offends her and she quits on the spot and leaves. Now all of these young men are without a cook and meals. They now have the task of trying to find a new cook for them.
Response a pleasant episode and very funny to watch. It's always good to see the same faces around the fraternity. It's nice continuity and adds to the realism of the show.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: A Lamp for Dave & June (1962)
"We have a whole house full of lamps."
Dave comes home from work and June is playing the bills. She asks if that is okay and he says she doesn't have to do that. She wants to see how much money is left over. She wants to buy a new lamp for the table. They can stop at the store and look at lamps before they head over to Ozzie and Harriet's for dinner.
They head over to the store and look at lamps. They found one for $85. June decides they can afford it if they go on a crash diet. David is a little hesitant at first. They aren't exactly overspending. He decides it is a good idea and they go on a budget.
There were some funny parts in this episode though there weren't as many as previous episodes. Nice idea with Dave and June being newly married and living on a budget.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: David, the Sleuth (1959)
"Gee, it's my bad side too."
David and his girlfriend are enjoying an evening at his house. He tells her he has to work on Saturday morning because they have a lot of work going on right now. She asks him when he's going to work his first case. Says he first has to graduate from law school and passed the bar exam. It leads into what he does for the office. He tells her he doesn't do any important work. Ricky comes down and and says don't be too modest. Tell her about the cases he's investigating. She says that she had no idea that his job was so exciting. He tells her it isn't.
The next day at work David comes in and the switchboard girl tells him that Mr Dobson is working on an accident case. He sees a man come out of the office with a broken arm. Later at the bowling alley with Rick, he sees the same man bowling. He has to find out a way to prove that the man's arm isn't broken and get it to Mr. Dobson.
A very enjoyable episode to watch. It was fun to see David do some investigative work for his job.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Nelsons Decide to Move (1959)
"We'll look for an apartment tomorrow"
The repairs are really starting to pile up at the Nelson household. Ozzie has been doing some painting, and the doorknob needs to be refixed, the hose on the washing machine and the loose shingles on the roof. Joe Randolph comes over and sees Ozzie painting. He also is frustrated with all the repairs that a house requires. He says he wishes he lived in an apartment and that way he wouldn't have had to worry about repairs.
Ozzie decides to talk to Harriet about selling the house and moving into an apartment. He tells her that the boys are hardly ever home anymore and that it would be better for them. Dave is probably going to get married someday and Rick says that he is thinking about moving into the fraternity house. Dave and Rick are okay with them selling the house. Later that night while playing bridge with the Randolph's, Ozzie is pressured into telling them that they are moving into an apartment.
This was a very good episode to watch. It was sort of a reverse of the times as people at that time period had been moving out of their apartments and into houses. As usual Ozzie does a brilliant job and this was very very funny to watch.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Rancher's Daughter (1959)
"If you have any kind of hand at all, you can always out-bluff Oz"
The Nelsons are having breakfast and they ask if Ozzie if he is going fishing in the weekend. They need to hit him up the night before to ask him for money. He says he isn't going fishing because the fishing has been so terrible up there lately.
Ozzie is practicing fishing later with Doc Williams and Joe Randolph. He asks them if they want to go fishing. They tell him that the fish at the lake haven't been biting too well. Ozzie tells them he had a lot of fun just being at the lake. They decide to go fishing with Ozzie this weekend but Ozzie changes his mind and doesn't want to go.
David is dating a girl named Dorothy Jones. Her father owns a ranch in the valley and he has his own private lake. Ozzie finds this out from Dave from one of his pictures of Dorothy. Dorothy and her father come over for dinner that night. He brought them some trout he caught from his lake. Doc and Joe end up crashing the dinner party and discover the trout. They then try to come up with ways for the father to invite them fishing.
This was a very good episode to watch and it was well written. There are plenty of laughs in this episode that make it worth watching.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Who Needs Girls (1959)
"You got another phone call to make."
Fred, Wally, and Phil are all heading to the mountains this weekend. Phil had to break a date with his girl, Betty. She didn't like it too much. Dave hears about the weekend to the mountains and is interested. Ricky decides to stay at home so he can go the dance Saturday. Gloria comes up and gives Rick his notebook paper and tells him she will see him Saturday. The guys naturally tell him that he has a date with her Saturday, and Ricky denies this. Wally points out that he has taken her to the last six dances. They pick on him that he is going steady with her and that soon they will be married. He says it's not serious and they say the only way to solve it is by going camping with them this weekend.
At home, David tells Ozzie and Harriet that Ricky is practically engaged. They ask if he is talking about Gloria. Ricky says his fraternity thinks he is getting too involved so he is deciding to go with them up to the mountains. He decides to get somebody else to take her to the dance.
Nice episode to watch not exactly my kind of humor at times for a show of this time period.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: David, the Law Clerk (1959)
"You'll find one right outside the door"
Dave is looking to secure a job as a law clerk with a well-respected law firm, Dobson and Kelley. It's one of the best in town. Ozzie tells David that he met Ralph Dobson today at the golf course. He is a friend of Joe Randolph's. Ozzie said he wished he knew; he would have put a good word in for him. According to Joe, he is just about the best in the city. Ozzie realizes that Joe is having lunch with him tomorrow. Maybe he can join and talk with Mr. Dobson about David.
Ozzie meets Ralph at lunch the next day and finds out that he has been bothered with people who have someone in law school. He tells Ozzie that is not the way to get the job. When Ozzie gets home, he found out Harriet made a point of talking with Mrs. Dobson, who is a member of the Woman's Club. Dave is worried that his career may be done before he even starts.
Things are made worst when he and Ricky play golf with Judge Warren and Mr. Dobson. The series of coincidences begin to pile up. Another great episode of the series and a classic.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Ozzie, the Host (1959)
"I wonder which one of them knocked."
Ozzie and Darby run into each other at the malt shop while Ozzie is making an ice cream order. Darby asks Ozzie if they are doing anything tomorrow night. He wants them to come over and play cards and watch TV. Darby wants a simple evening, beer, and pretzels. Ozzie makes the remark about how Sally likes to make a big fuss over everything. He says that Harriet is not like that. Darby says that they should head over to Ozzie's place instead.
Harriet suggests they put on some polka records with the beer and pretzels. Ozzie says they just want some sandwiches. If they want some atmosphere, they should have some knockwurst sandwiches with the beer. Things begin to pick up when Ozzie asks Harriet why she is vacuuming. She wants the house to look clean and they need some beer steins to have something nice to serve the beer in. Harriet also says that they must have the Williams over too. They can't have the Darby's without them.
Ozzie was a master of taking simple ideas and turning them into terrific episodes. This is another one of them. A simple little evening turning into so much more.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Sea Captain (1959)
"On the Banks of the Old Raritan"
Ozzie and Harriet are preparing a bedroom for his old friend, Charlie. Charlie is an old college friend of Ozzie's who is a captain. He left college to work on a freighter to work his way around the world. Charlie wanted Ozzie to go with him but Harriet didn't think it was a good idea. David says if somebody made him an offer like that, he would have taken him up on it.
Ozzie tells them to expect Charlie to be loud mouth, brash and he may even have a beard. When the moment arrives, Dave answers the door to Captain Charlie Hathaway. He isn't any of those things Ozzie said he would be. He has brought some gifts for the family and even regals them with stories from his trips around the world.
Charlie asks David if he would like to sign on as one of the crew. It's the easiest and cheapest way to see the world. Ozzie thinks David should finish his school first before he makes a trip like that. David says the offer is tempting and the family worries Dave might quit school and leave for a trip around the world.
Good episode with a lot of gentle humor. There is an exciting dream sequence in the episode that it worth the watch.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Randolphs' Niece (1962)
"You mean she called long distance?!"
It appears that Ricky has been having trouble getting a date with Norma Lane lately. He's only able to see her at the library. He's been disappointed with not being able to have a real date with her.
Meanwhile, Joe Randolph comes over and warns Ozzie that Clara is coming over to arrange a date for Ricky. It is with their niece. They have not seen this girl since she and Ricky were kids.
The next night, the Nelson's head over to the Randolph's for dinner. Here is where they meet Shirley, the Randolph's niece, for the first time since she was a kid. During the dinner, Clara tries to play matchmaker and and tell about her niece Shirley. Ricky and Shirley end up going to the movies after dinner.
This episode didn't have as many laughs as other episodes did. A decent enough idea but it could have been executed better. Still it was fun to watch.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Special Cake (1962)
"Don't you think we ought to get a ladder for your dad?"
Wally, Ricky, Charley and some of the other guys are getting a little poker game together. They pick on David for being married now and possibly not being able to play poker. They then rope David into hosting the game tonight.
Meanwhile, June informs Harriet that it was a year ago tonight that David proposed to her. Harriet tells her about the special occasions that she and Ozzie celebrate. He doesn't always remember them but he usually does with a little prodding. She tells June that if David doesn't remember, she should try the special cake trick. Ozzie's favorite cake when they were first married was a cake with marble frosting. It got to be a family gag whenever she made it so he would ask what the special occasion was.
June decides to make one for Dave hoping that he will remember their special occasion.
A nice light hearted episode to watch. This series was truly special and no wonder it lasted 14 years.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Backyard Pet Show (1962)
"Hey, which one of you lost a frog?"
Barry Martin is looking for his pet rat that is missing. He goes over to the Nelson household to look for it but they haven't seen it. He runs into some of his friends and they tell him the rat has been found. They discuss who has the best pet and Ozzie comes up with the idea of them having a pet show.
The boys come back a little later and ask if they can use the Nelson backyard for the pet show. They eventually agree and get to work hosting the pet show. Some of the boys' fathers come over and make Ozzie the judge for the pet show. Ozzie now has the responsibility of being the judge.
This was a cute episode to watch and fun to see the kids with all of their pets.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Fraternity Pin (1962)
"Please honey, they're singing our song"
Ricky and Wally are discussing their plans and Rick tells Wally he has a couple dates with Norma Lane. Wally says that is pretty serious with Norma. Ricky says not yet but he really likes her. Wally asks Ricky if he could run over to the jewelry store and pick up his fraternity pin. He wants to re-pin Ginger. Ricky agrees and heads over to the store.
He runs into some girls from the sorority and see Ricky picking up Wally's fraternity pin. They misunderstand what is said between the clerk and Ricky and think Rick is going to pin Norma.
The news spreads all over campus about Ricky ane Norma. Ricky is now in a dilemma, he has a date tonight with Norma. How will he face her if she has heard the rumors?
This was a nice episode, not too many laughs that usually is in the series. It was still decent to watch.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Rick, the Milkman (1961)
"Do you think I talked in my sleep?"
Rick and Wally are at school when they are approached by their friend, Harvey. Harvey is a milkman but he can't work his route tomorrow since he has so many exams to get ready for. He asks if they could take his milk route tomorrow. They hesitate at first, but then agree to help him out.
Ricky goes home and tells his parents about it. He is a little worried about it after Harvey shows him the route and that it is a little more complicated than he thought. Ozzie tells him he will do fine.
Rick and Wally go out on the route the next morning. They get to their final stop when Rick meets a beautiful girl. They both are interested in each other but Rick doesn't think he can ask her out, in case it is a company rule. He has to figure out how he can get a date with this beautiful girl.
This was fun to watch and this shows Ricky is still a bachelor now that David's dating days are over. David teases him about the girl and Ricky tells Ozzie and David to go back to their wives. Nice episode to watch from start to finish.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Trading Stamps (1961)
"Easy girls, remember we're armed!"
Ozzie brings another delightful episode. Our story centers around trading stamps and a stamp Redemption Center.
Mrs Peabody, the president of the Woman's Club, is retiring. Harriet and Clara and some of the other girls are trying to decide what kind of a gift they should get her. Clara comes over for an emergency meeting with the other girls to decide the issue. Joe is with her and the conversation rolls around to saving stamps. Ozzie makes the remark that Harriet must have about 50 of them. Harriet says that she doesn't. Harriet says that if there's something he wants with the stamps he should get them. Ozzie says he may do that someday.
At the meeting, the girls discover that they do not have a lot of money in the treasury. Harriet gets an idea and decides to get a tea set from the stamp catalog to give to their president. The only trouble is can the girls get the stamps collected from the other members in time for tonight?
I always love the episodes where Darby and his wife are on. It's also nice when all six can get involved with the story. Ozzie such a good job threading things through throughout the series.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: David Gets Discouraged (1960)
"I don't seem to be doing that very well"
David has been working very hard at Dobson and Kelley. He has gotten his first important assignment from Mr. Kelley and is making some notes. Ozzie says that he is making some progress at the law office. David says that he has been there over a year and this is his first real work he has done aside from stamping letters and emptying waste baskets. He also has met a pretty girl that works as a secretary across the hall from his law office and has made up his mind to ask her to lunch tomorrow.
David meets the girl for some coffee the next day where they run into one of David's old law school friends. He finds out this friend quit law school and is with an advertising agency now. David says he looks prosperous. This gets David to thinking and he tells Ms. Edwards that he doesn't feel like he is making much progress with the law firm. He starts to question whether he should also quit law school and try something else.
This was good episode with a little bit of a moral to it. The series is slowly building on the characters as they are following through with David as he has been with the firm for over a year now. This was great to watch.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Ozzie, the Boat-Keeper (1960)
"You'd have bought a much bigger one"
Our story opens with Ozzie at the sporting goods store with the clerk trying to sell him a lure. The clerk asks him if he is going fishing this weekend and Ozzie figures he will. He tells him to make sure to rent a boat but if he doesn't he can buy this one. Joe is there and objects and says that it is his boat. Ozzie asks if he has finally decided to buy the boat. Joe says he hasn't quite yet.
Darby and Doc are at Ozzie's garage getting ready for the fishing trip mocking him for the fishing lure he bought. They are surprised when Joe pulls up with the boat from the sporting goods store. After Darby and Doc leave, Ozzie asks if he has told Clara yet. He told her he hasn't had the chance yet and was going to when the girls got back from shopping. That's why he drove the boat over to Ozzie's house. Ozzie asks if he is afraid to tell Clara and he says of course not.
When the girls get home, he tries to butter her up to let her know. Clara tells him about the dining room set she saw at the store but she didn't buy it. She wanted to talk with him before buying something big. When the girls see the boat, he leads Clara to believe that Ozzie was the one who bought the boat. Ozzie now becomes the keeper of Joe's boat until he can tell her the truth.
I always love Ozzie and Joe getting in trouble with their wives. This was a nice change of pace since this involved Joe getting in trouble with Clara.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: His Brother's Girl (1960)
"He Still Hasn't Got One"
David and his date, Terry are at the malt shop with Rick and his date, Jane. They are all out on their first date and Rick wants to take Jane bowling. Jane accepts and Dave asks Terry if she would like to make it a foursome. She declines because she has too much studying to do. Jane asks Dave if he would like to come along with them. Dave declines because he doesn't think Rick would appreciate it.
The boys come home and tell their parents about the girls they have just met. Rick gets a phone call from Jane who can't go bowling with him since she has to babysit her little brother. Rick thinks Dave could babysit for them so they can still go on their date. Rick asks David to babysit and eventually convinces him to accept the job.
When David arrives to babysit her little brother, Bill, he asks Dave why she didn't go out with him. Bill tells her about how Jane talked about him all at dinner and that she likes Dave not Rick. David takes this to heart and soon finds himself bumping into Jane all over campus. He also discovers that he is falling for his brother's girl.
A nice change of pace to have a girl fall for Dave over Rick. It was a great idea and the episode was truly a delight to watch.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: David Gets a Raise (1960)
"You Have all the Symptoms"
David is at the law office and questions Miss Edwards about what kind of mood Mr. Kelley is in. Connie deduces that David is going to ask him for a raise. Mr. Kelley compliments Dave on what a fine job he is doing but David decides for a different time to ask him for the raise.
When David comes home, he is working on some papers for Mr. Kelley who is going to be coming over later in the evening. Wally stops by and tells them they have a problem with their party. They don't have any chaperones. They try to ask Ozzie and Harriet but they are busy tomorrow night.
Wally tries hard the next day to find a chaperone for the party and doesn't have any luck. At the time of the party Dave asks where the chaperone is. Wally says he wasn't able to get one, Dave objects and tells them that it is a rule. When the Dean shows up unexpectedly, Wally leads the Dean to believe that Dave and his date, Jane are married and the chaperones.
This was a very funny episode and typical of how the show sets up a plot of things getting mixed up.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Table and the Painting (1960)
"Let's just call it an out-of-season Christmas present"
Joe has taken up wood crafting and Ozzie stops by at his garage to see him. Joe shows him an end table that he made. It is the first thing he has ever made. Ozzie politely tells him that he likes it. Joe asks Ozzie if he would like to have it. He is his best friend and wants Ozzie to keep it. Ozzie doesn't know what to do and takes the table to avoid offending Joe.
When he takes it back to Harriet, she says that it's not bad but when she finds out Ozzie owns it, she says to give it back. Ozzie tells her how he got it and they have to make the tough decision of where to put it.
Ozzie heads up to the attic to look for a painting he made during some art classes he took. He decides he's going to give it to Joe to get even with him. If Joe refuses it, it will give Ozzie an excuse to give back the table.
This is a fine episode for the series and fits the tone of the show. Ozzie and Harriet was a classic series and is one of my favorite shows to watch. Episodes like this is what made this series unique.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: A Sweater for Rick (1960)
"Maybe you'll get her on the rebound"
The guys at the college are getting a lot of knit things from their girlfriends. From socks to scarves to sweatshirts it seems that every guy has something from their girlfriend. Except for Rick. He has been going with the girl named Joyce and she has noticed that the other girls have been knitting things for their boyfriends.
She decides to get a hold of Harriet and knit a sweater for Rick in secret. In order to do this in secret she has to break her dates with him which leaves him confused. David says it's probably because Joyce doesn't want to go out with him anymore. Ricky decides to take out a girl who just had a fight with her boyfriend, a basketball player. This is where the plot takes an interesting turn as Joyce is still knitting her sweater for Rick in secret.
This was a good idea for the series. Since the boys are now in college and are dating more it was very popular at this time for girls to knit things for their boyfriends. It was neat that Ozzie would incorporate that into this episode.
