Oppenheimer (2023)
Flexing the power of the US and zero footage of casualties
"Let's drop a movie called Oppenheimer about the birth of the superpower of the USA and the magnitude of the weapons we are able to create. But please, no coverage of the repercussions. We don't want the world to see the hundreds of thousands of casualties that took place in Hiroshima, and make ourselves look bad. It's not about the lives lost. Let's just tell our story and purely focus the film on flexing the power of the USA and remind the world why they shouldn't mess with us. That we are able to wipe the whole planet in one click!"
I mean, if Christopher Nolan had indeed showed scenes of what the US has done to other countries, it would have never gotten funded by Hollywood, am I right? Maintaining that #CleanImage.
Devil in Ohio (2022)
Better than most thrillers on Netflix
I liked this show. For the most part, it was depicted from an objective perception. Especially religiously. We see how this girl that's from a cult escaped etc.. from an "we know it was just a cult" perspective. It wasn't until the last moment of the finale that I started to think they were implying something more sinister. That maybe the girl's rituals had a real effect on the world around her. I enjoyed how they incorporated multiple storylines within the main story. It kept me engaged and gave a sense of being inside that universe. I would have liked for the lead character who played Susanne to use other facial expressions than the one and only.. But again it kind of made sense in the last moments of the finale though. I enjoyed this!
La jefa (2022)
Enjoyable / Average
It's an alright film. It kept me engaged and I wanted to know what was going to happen. I like the message this film sends. More often than we think, people we know might allow a new, short lived thrill or excitement to manipulate their lives. Their impulses will drive them to push the people who love them away. They can go as far as ruining their entire lives. I would have hoped for more details, suspense and action happening, but then I realized that the writer could have just been trying to send that simple message. I have seen worse thrillers on Netflix. Was it a thriller? Yeah. Did it entertain? I guess yeah. Average.
Echoes (2022)
What Is Going On?
Interesting concept, poor execution. Frankly, what is going on? I usually like Thriller, but this is more of a What Is Going On genre. The storytelling is confusing, I said « what? » every minute. I couldn't tell who was who most of the time. At some points I thought the sisters were lesbian for each other. I started singing Sweet Home Alabama. Turns out they were just having some weird tension/possession prolonged eye contact vibe going on. That cop Floss was so theatrical I couldn't stop laughing. Everyone is kind of dumb too. Chill the fluff out fr! Again great concept with poor execution. All the whispering was hilarious too.
Keep Breathing (2022)
Amazing.
The series was about overcoming her traumas and breaking her walls down rather than just surviving in the wild. It was about learning to cherish what you have and letting go of what you don't have. Though she was in the middle of nowhere and loads to explore around, her past was haunting her most of the time and her job wasn't there to distract her. She had to face everything that she'd been avoiding, find acceptance and resilience. Personally loved it so much.
Jackass 4.5 (2022)
Immature
Film description should have been: Group of sadistic psychopaths use the « creation of a movie » as an excuse to exploit, ridicule and inflict pain on some of the vulnerable in society: nerds, people of colour and fat people; who sadly consent to it because they need the money and could use the fame to secure their future.
Some of the things they do to these people just because they signed a contract and were forced to, shows Johnny Knoxville's and (whoever directors) lack of empathy and humanity in general and is far from comedy.
I thought these guys might have grown up by now and gave it a shot, only to be disappointed again.
Insiders (2021)
If I could put zero stars I would
The only reason that the contestants don't know what they're competing about the whole time is because the directors don't know either. No real structure to the show, huge lack of planning on the directors side. Waste of my time and precious peace of mind. Avoid it.
