Blasted: Gutta vs Aliens (2022)
Almost but miss
Decent effects but struggles with the story and characters. You will find all standards but nothing new or captivating.
Decent thrills (from time to time)but not funny.
Wish to be able to give more stars but it miss so many opportunities for a decent movie it would not be fair.
It feels that the movie borrows from all the others but add nothing on its own. Shame.
Watchable - but that is all.
Spectral (2016)
Very Very Decent
It is an American style Sci-fi but pompous parts are kept to minimum.
Fast pace with with good battle scenes.
It does not have ambitious underlining story but definitely good enough to entertain.
Midsommar (2019)
deja vu with a twist
Anyone who watched the Wicker Man will find themselves comparing these two movies. No doubt the producers thought the same so here it is a deja vu with a twist.
The movie tries to find its own path to keep the viewer occupied so it is very much focussing on the characters rather than action. It is not clear if this should be a horror or social drama which makes it a bit annoying as it is not a good combination for one movie.
Can you enjoy it - absolutely but equally can be disappointing to the viewer looking for an easy fun.

Disappointing but with a potential
Undoubtedly the first episode rises the bar high - unfortunately everything after is a spiral down.
The characters are not believable - brutal in one scene; sweet and caring in others. No consistence at all - you cannot have both ways - be likable and murder people to save your brother or because they are a drunk. Overdramatic or bland - to the point that you really really want them to stop taking or to say something respectively.
Half way through the series you have to hold yourself not to skip bits to see if there is any action. And again disappointment. It seems that the only action you have is towards the end of each episode - I guess to make sure that the viewer is not going to fall asleep completely.
In the nutshell, it is a mixture of a small town social drama and a bloody horror - which is never a good mixture. Yet get to the end and yet hope that a bus full of fresh meet will turn the faith of this series around in the second season as it has undoubtedly a great potential.
