Rigo (2023)
Peak Colombian production.
I was waiting for the novel to finish to write this review. I wanted to experience first-hand the plot, development, and resolution of this excellent production.
I find it unprecedented how this novel perfectly manages to establish a real connection with the viewer. Clearly, we can't overlook the drama when it comes to a novel, but the way it was approached... It leaves one breathless.
It plunges us into Colombian reality and shows us, in a non-exaggerated way, the lives that many people unfortunately live day by day. It is able to convey a real feeling with all the characters involved and leave us at the mercy of uncertainty (this stands out even more if you didn't know Rigoberto's story beforehand).
The acting, the settings, the shots (and angles), the attention to detail, the constant tension, and among others, make Rigo a unique experience.
This novel is, without a doubt, the peak of Colombian production. Thanks to the entire cast and production team for this Colombian masterpiece.
10/10. Peak Colombian production.
Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Above average.
The movie alludes to how complicated love and relationships can be, portraying them in a dramatic, human, real but somewhat exaggerated way.
The development of Malcom and Marie is excellent, both exposing themselves in a humiliating, hurtful, cruel, and flattering manner at the end of each act (or beginning), with the main plot revolving around what each thinks of the other, ultimately a shared reality experienced from different perspectives.
While the storyline is repetitive and predictable, each line is crucial in its development, giving the viewer more insight into Malcom and Marie's self-perceptions.
The dialogue is exquisite and brutal, designed in a way that tension is always present between Malcom and Marie. It exposes two narcissists who only talk about themselves, disregarding how the other person might feel. All of this drama is accompanied by a black and white atmosphere that enhances the emotions and expressions, allowing the viewer to choose the color palette used in this painting.
The soundtrack is splendidly chosen, adding another layer of color to this painting, applying a blue or yellow filter depending on the emotions experienced during each act's beginning or end.
7/10.
Taxi Driver (1976)
Definitely a good classic.
For me, the movie showed me a different perspective of the world. I wasn't expecting any of that, at all. It caught me off guard.
The movie develops a good story that will always make you pay attention to small details. Sometimes those details can be visually unpleasant, or get "too much time in frame", like in the scene of the .44 Magnum. This movie would be a 9 if the soundtrack wasn't so obnoxious at some scenes.
A movie worth watching, every second is crucial throughout the storytelling.
Forrest Gump (1994)
I wasn't expecting this.
Throughout my life, I've seen a lot of memes about this movie on various social media apps, such as Reddit, Facebook, etc...
I don't know how I lived so far without seeing this movie before, but I finally watched it, and oh boy it was good.
This movie was a genuine journey, I didn't know anything about it and it was spectacular. This movie shows love, heartbreaks, laughs, and hate in its way. Something remarkable.
Watching a movie without expecting anything about it and then blowing your mind by how good it was, it's a sentiment that will never stop making me fall in love.
Kimi no na wa. (2016)
Astonishing
This movie is without a doubt, one of the best (if not the best) anime movie I've ever seen. It's the perfect love story. This movie is worth watching more than twice.
