VERY slow burn. This movie put Oz on my map as I've only seen Gretel and Hansel. That was also slow lol. I felt this had great creep factor and suspense. I don't feel as though I was able to piece together the plot so it wasn't predictable to me. I was fully prepared for the element of horror to not be supernatural and I was very happy when I found out it was supernatural! I prefer supernatural horror. The antagonist is extremely creepy! I actually didn't realize it was Nicholas until writing this review. He did well in that role. Even though it was a slow burn, it kept me engaged. The lead protagonist kept finding nuggets to keep her and the audience engaged. It seems like you either love or hate this movie. It's worth a shot to base your own opinion on it.
I came in with zero expectations but excitement. Didn't read any reviews, saw one preview during a movie months back. I was locked in the whole time. I REALLY enjoyed the filming style but the music is very loud yet you can't hear the narration/dialogue as crisp as the music. So you have twin brothers. The psychopathic brother and the poor bullied brother. They obviously grew estranged over the course of time but the monkey keeps them connected throughout it all. As adults, their lives went down different paths with the main twin being completely removed from emoting and life. Elijah's character was pretty hilarious. The chaoticness of the monkey and what would come next was my favorite part. As mentioned, it's more Final Destination style so it's dealers choice lol. I found the movie to not be anything special as far as the story. Even outside of Stephen's short, it's not original in story at all but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. I think Wan did really well. It's a certain creepy grunge that he gives to movies that I completely enjoy. For the most part, I have high expectations for Wan and trust him to deliver. Oz is pretty new to me so I can't really say I enjoy his style but from what I did see, he has more of a slow burn style.
Sick, sadistic, unoriginal, uninspiring, disgusting and weird. They put the horr in horrible not horror. I've never wanted to give a movie a negative rating before. Is there a negative 10??? Between the unnecessary sex scenes and perverted behavior, I hated every minute. It was boring and despicable! Just sex for the sake of having sex in a movie. There was nothing artistic about it. The last thing I expected was to see a woman's personal fluids fly towards the camera. Do these actors read the script before accepting? They would have fared better with a YT series. At least you'd get to keep your clothes on! Just no type of standards or morals.
