I should say i had zero expectations when i watched this, so that might be why it was so enjoyable. It's not a horror film, but there was enough atmosphere and intrigue to keep me interested. Something even hypnotic about it...The first story especially had me hooked with the lighting and building sense of unease. It's literally a collection of eerie fairytales, and honestly it probably deserves a higher score- i'm just not really into anthologies, and i always expect any films with dark themes to be idk darker for some reason? But that's on me. I'll definitely be looking for more works by this director.

This film was too good! Everything about it was on point for me- and i watch A LOT of horror movies, ohmygodsomanyhorrormovies- but this one had me pleasantly surprised, because not only was there a tidy, entertaining storyline, great acting (i know child acting can be cringe but these kids are amazing, And i never would've thought of Ethan Hawke for this role but wow! So creepy), and spectacular cinematography (which really made it feel like the 70's I've seen in old movies- without getting lost in nostalgia), BUT it also did something that resonated so deeply: the supernatural elements are not the source of the horror.

The most bone chilling elements of the story are derived from it's reality- the friendly neighborhood serial killer. *TRIGGER WARNING for anyone who had an abusive childhood, there's a scene near the beginning that had me bawling! Scary stuff, but this film also has a lot of heart, which is refreshing since it feels so authentic. It just didn't seem to take any of the cheap shots I've gotten so bored of seeing lately. Idk i really liked it. If you're waiting for the gore you'll be disappointed, but if you've ever seen or heard any true crime documentaries you know what's up(yeah, lot of serial killers in the 70's!) Anyways, go watch it!
