Titans: Atonement (2019)
All Work and No play...
Hank and Dawn singing "Ain't No Mountain High
Enough" karaoke was enough for me to give this nine stars. If that was their real singing voices, then both of them were outstanding. I was thoroughly impressed with how they sounded compared to most "Popstars" today.
Gar's post-its of "All work and no play makes Gar a dull boy" was the perfect comedic juxtaposition to the dour material.
This show seems to be embracing the absurdity and seriousness of the subject matter extremely well. I didn't start watching until a few weeks ago, but I have binge watched multiple episodes, and they have gotten much better as they go along.
Titans: Bruce Wayne (2019)
So much better than expected.
I did not have high hopes for this show when I started watching it. I hadn't seen many reviews, but the overall tone and lack of publicity didn't give me much hope. A friend of mine told me that I should give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. It still leans heavily into the melodrama and soap opera, but when it hits the mark, it does it well. Now that I am halfway through the second season, I am thoroughly impressed with how the showrunners, writers, and actors have created something unique and compelling. They have taken the source material and translated it to television faithfully in spirit. Minka Kelly stands out.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Whose Show Is This? (2022)
At least it's over
I have been a huge fan of Shulkie since her appearance in F4. Her series by John Byrne was fantastic, and I can appreciate the fact that the writers attempted to transfer some of that sensibility into the series, but this is a failure at every level. She does not come across as intelligent -or even competent- just entitled and whiny. Jen shows zero legal/courtroom skills, acts like a desperate thirtysomething borderline alcoholic SWF, and blames all of her shortcomings on other people. Any internal logic regarding her ability to control her "hulk" form is ignored. Jen comes across as self-centered and needy, not heroic. The creators did the character a huge disservice with this show!
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
I've given up after 3 episodes
I hoped that the amazing Tatiana Maslany could make this work, but the show runners have made her version of Shulkie inane and petulant. She isn't enjoying her new form, just scolding everyone who finds her new form more attractive than her mousy original form. She isn't empowered, just irritated, by her powers. Her dismissive attitude towards Bruce is the biggest sin, though. She hasn't suffered anything like he has, but clings to her victimhood. Disappointing. Tim Roth has been fun, though, and the promise of Daredevil in future episodes is a plus, but I probably won't watch them unless the quality improves dramatically.
