Sound of Freedom (2023)
Phenomenal Movie-Making
Everything about this movie was phenomenal. The production values were absolutely top notch: the acting, the music, the screenplay, the script, and of course the powerful subject.
The only complaint I have is that in the first perhaps 25% of the film, the dialog was difficult to hear and understand. Now this could be an issue with the theater's audio system but if so, it would mean that someone told the management about it part way through since it improved dramatically. That's possible but unlikely. I've noticed this issue (along with low contrast) in many recent movies and it seems to be a trend - and not a good one.
Oh, and the theater was packed - something I've not seen in years - and the audience applauded heartily when the credits rolled. Be sure and stay after the credits for special note form Jim Caviezel.
Jack Irish: Episode #1.2 (2016)
Tired of PC
I like the Jack Irish series, but right off the bat I knew where this season was going and this episode confirmed it. It is yet another example, rampant in BBC and compatriot productions, that paint Christians as insane, Westerners as terrorists, and Muslims as peaceful and persecuted. The Philippines is wracked with violence perpetrated by Islamist groups, but those who control entertainment media are intent on ignoring, and then distorting, reality. It's dishonest, suicidal, and unnecessary in an otherwise well-done series.
I'll also note one thing that probably must be done in a series like this but that is glaringly unrealistic: while the bad guys in the series are getting increasingly violent, not hesitating to cold-bloodedly kill anyone in their way, all they eer do to Jack is beat him up.
