The best movie ever made
20 July 2019
It's real. It's the boldest, most significant mission ever attempted by humankind. It was a resounding success and it's shown here in unprecedented detail. A historical record for future generations to appreciate. Truly epic, in every sense of the word.

An instant classic
8 October 2014
A movie which oozes Britishness from every frame, The Imitation Game is an instant classic. Wartime Britain is depicted vividly, if a little caricatured, with an autumnal palette and a jaunty air.

A true story, sympathetically told, with good performances all round and a stand-out Turing from the indefatigable Mr Cumberbatch. The young Turing is also extremely well realised by Alex Lawther.

Meandering through Alan Turing's life since school until shortly before his death, the script demands your attention and regularly makes you smile.

Highly recommended.

Head 2 Head Rivalry Exposed
8 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As a lover of vintage video games, and having grown up through their development, I have a nostalgic passion for the likes of Pac Man, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Scramble and Battlezone.

This documentary brings all that flooding back, but adds real drama and intrigue. Like Star Wars, there is an obvious Dark Side and Light Side, but the outcome is never obvious.

Being a sceptical sort, I'm not going to commit without rigorous study, but this movie sure shows the perils associated with trusting evidence without scientific scrutiny.

Who am I to judge whether the movie presents a balanced interpretation? All I can say is that this movie is gripping, fun, human and educational.

Enjoy.

A Definite Break From The Norm...
20 December 2006
Disturbing, gritty and compelling in a twisted way, this movie is almost everything that mainstream cinema isn't.

If you like your laughs darker than ebony; if you like your action twisted; if you like your chief protagonist to be totally insane, then this is the movie for you.

You'll squirm, your sympathies will shift, and at the end of it all you'll be left confused as to whether the ending was a good one or not.

I watched this movie with no idea what it was all about and feel all the better for it. Highly recommended if you're not of a sensitive nature and want to see a movie that may well change your perceptions of Hollywood.

(told you I knew nothing about this move was it from Hollywood?)

An absolute gem.

Quite simply, a shimmering island in a sea of formulaic dross.

I'm not going to give anything away, but this movie confuses you all the way through until the end, when everything clicks into place. Then, once you've walked away and thought about it for a few minutes (something which you won't be able to avoid doing), you realise you only half get it.

It will then play on your mind for months, nagging you to fully understand it. HIGHLY recommended.

Great soundtrack, too.

WOW - I've been there......

This movie is the one perfect portrayal of club culture and ecstacy use in the '90s. Every scene in this movie contains an example of the ecstacy phenomenon that anyone who was there at the time will identify with, whether it be blagging your way into a club, the euphoria of ecstacy with good friends, the twitchy paranoia of the post-club come down or the superlative "Spliff Politics".

If you were a 90s clubber, this movie was made specifically for you. Watch it and feel the nostalgia come flooding over you!
