Love/Hate (2010–2014)
10/10
Who knew Irish TV could be so fantastic!!
5 December 2012
Being Irish myself, I was at first hesitant about this show. I mean, how good could it really be right? Especially when the bar has been set by the likes of Fair City...or Glenroe. But, I said I'd take my chances...and, boy, am I glad I did!

Love/Hate is gritty, funny, dramatic, intense. It leaves you with cliffhangers, and has you constantly thinking about what's going to happen next. The cast do an amazing job - sometimes I can't believe it's Irish talent I'm seeing on my screen - and, best of all, the series' are short and sweet; with 4 episodes in season 1, and 6 episodes (each) in seasons 2 & 3. I urge everyone to watch this show! Even the gardaí (cops in Ireland) think its realistic...

Try it out. You won't be disappointed!

Prometheus (I) (2012)
7/10
...Just Here Me Out....
9 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
...To put it simply, it doesn't have the shock value that was 'Alien', nor can it quite compete with the thrill of 'Aliens', but it does stand up to the test of it being a good prequel, but ONLY if you go into the theater expecting it to be a back-story and nothing more.

There's a reason why Ridley Scott made 'Alien' first, and Cameron gave us 'Aliens' after...they were/ and are the better stories! However, on the basis of where a leading-up back-story is concerned, Prometheus couldn't have nailed it any better; with the exception of some poorly delivered lines, an operation on oneself which didn't seem to impede the character's mobility not 1 minute after the surgery was done, and a scene in the middle where one of the crew members returns to Prometheus a feral demon of sorts (it just didn't quite fit in).

All I'll say is, go in expecting a Sci-Fi movie directed by Ridley Scott...that's all!!! If you go in there expecting to see Xenomorphs scaling walls, hissing cats, and lots of flamethrower/pulse rifle action...then let me save you the trouble, and just stay at home...because you WILL be disappointed.

Aside from those few let-downs stated above, I liked it.

It's not a 10/10, that's for sure. Maybe not a 9 or even an 8 either...but it's a sure 7.5/10, and that's a pretty respectable score in my opinion.

Anyone who has rated this film a 1/10 needs to go back to Michael Bay world with their 'Transformers' trilogies where they belong...

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011 Video Game)
1/10
Close up shop, Activision..
10 November 2011
I was a massive COD fan. MASSIVE!!! And although i was warned, and warned, and warned again about MW3, i decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Then what happened??? I got scr*wed-over by Bobby Kotick, Sledgehammer, and Activision...all one after another.

I've never been so disappointed in my whole life. Meanwhile these guys are laughing all the way to the bank.

MW3 is a carbon copy of MW2. FACT! The guns are mediocre at best. The lag is atrocious. The maps are a similar layout to MW2 (In fact its just like a $60 map-pack) And..worst of all....Activisions laziness is evident in everything from the fonts to the trademark chickens they have clucking around the place. I'd say they didn't have to do a tap of work on this product 'coz its all the same!!!

Then there's the positive reviews...they elude me completely!!! I have no clue how a trusted reviewer could recommend you spend your hard-earned-cash on something so substandard. This leads me to the conclusion that brown envelopes must be involved.

Then you have Glen Schoefield BEGGING...that's right...BEGGING (google it) players to give it a good review on metacritic...and that just annoys me so much more!!! Begging us to make them more money when it clearly is...NOT...DESERVED.

On an finishing note...I honestly hope the world learns from this disgrace. And going by user reviews the world over.....it looks like the COD fanbase is already falling apart. Enjoy my $60, Activision. I hope you buy yourself something nice.

My score: 2/10 (and that's just because I was feeling generous)

Battlefield 3 (2011 Video Game)
9/10
PC? Xbox? PS3? Who cares...BUY IT!
30 October 2011
I've been waiting for this game to come out for the last year, specifically for the multiplayer. Single player? I can take it or leave it...and after hearing all the negatives about this campaign, I didn't hold my breath. Nevertheless, I was quite surprised when I eventually tackled it. Fair enough, it may not be very original, story-wise. Then again, what do you expect out of a Modern Combat shooter? Aliens? Giant gorillas? No? You expect what you see on the news! In light of this, then the story IS, in fact, entirely up to scratch. It's realistic. It's raw.

As for the multiplayer - well - it's absolutely heart pounding. I'm playing on PS3 and I was a little disappointed to discover that the graphics weren't a thousand leagues beyond bad company 2 (That's why I haven't rated it 10)...but still...there are times when you can't help but stop and admire some of the gorgeous textures, lighting, and movement. For a console, yes, I have to say that the graphics are very VERY beautiful! Next, the gameplay. Let's just say, during my first few rounds, I played with bated breath! It's chaos! The sound is fantastic, and nothing gets your heart pounding harder than the blur effect of oncoming suppressing fire! This IS war! By the way, I would like to say that i am an avid FPS player. I tell you this because I love the Call of Duty Franchise also. However, seen as MW3 looks like it'll be the version MW2.5, I really hope that battlefield 3 gives it a run for its money! My score: 9.2

Halloween II (2009)
3/10
You want devastation and horror??? Try this horrible script on for size!
31 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I begin?? Ever since I was a kid I was a huge fan of the 'Halloween' franchise!! I even saw some good in Halloween 3!!! Then Rob Zombie comes along and tries to resurrect a film which should have been left as nothing but a fantastic festive memory. Instead, he attempts to remake these classics and butchers them worse than one of michael myer's victims! Okay, maybe i'm being a little overzealous. The first remake was bearable, only for the annoying appearance of Scout-taylor Compton! Man, she was annoying, albeit slightly good looking. She brought the character of Laurie Strode onto a new plateau of complete irritation. Laurie strode was suppose to be the quiet, good-goody heroine. Whereas Zombie's/Compton's portrayal is of a new-age Hannah Montana type, in your face, fool! I was rooting for Michael Myers by the end! As for part 2...here we go! Zombie brings us a whole new standpoint of the original halloween 2. Fair enough, he remade it COMPLETELY...hence, 'remake'...but what he chose to substitute John Carpenter's vision with was absolutely ludicrous! For one, he stole from Friday the 13th, with Myers seeing his mother from time to time. She had a white horse with her of all things! Perhaps it had some 'profound meaning', but this is a horror movie folks!! Save us the depth and bring on the scares! Loomis' character was a complete power hungry tool in the remake. Donal Pleasence ruled as Loomis; yearning to be heard, without a consideration for his own well-being so long as Myers is stopped! Malcolm McDowell (though he's a good actor) just didn't do it for me. To be fair, I blame the script, not the actor.

The only good thing going for Halloween 2 is the severity of the fatalities - the stripper and the mirror for one. But a few brutal scenes won't save a storyline, in my opinion. Then we have Compton back again, annoying me; freaking out every 2 seconds, then acting fine the next. Annie Brackett would have been a much better candidate, i think. She had a look about her that just fitted. Either that, or the script writer should have reversed the attributes of the characters, at the very least.

All in all, there are gona be some people out there who loved this movie! I don't see why, but each to their own.

If you ever fancy sitting down with a bowl of popcorn and watching Halloween 2....rent out the original Halloween 2 instead.

I just keep on coming back to this one....
28 September 2007
I don't know why, but this remake of George A. Romeos "Night of the living dead" just seems to have it's claws sunk into me. Of course it's hard to better the original, but this version isn't too far behind. The atmosphere is the way a horror movie should be, the acting is far from Oscar winning material and some of the FX are completely out of date....But the movie has character, and it has to be my second favorite zombie flick after "Dawn of the dead" (original). So, guess what, i picked up a copy of it today and i just came online to see what rating you guys gave it...now i'm gona open a pack of doritos and sit back and enjoy it.......for about the 10th time!!!! Thumbs up for this remake.
