Nefarious (2023)
You will wonder if you are possessed
I can see that a lot of the negative scores of the movie are due to ideological differences. Those shouldn't be considered real or fair criticisms.
The film has very good performances (without a doubt, the best) and an interesting plot. At a certain point it is impossible not to put yourself in the psychiatrist's place, but Sean Patrick Flanery's role really takes the crown.
It has an obvious religious content but the audience's discretion is required to elucidate it.
The ending may not be up to par with the rest of the film, it may answer too many questions, but overall it is a well-made work.
You're going to want to see it from start to finish.
End of Days, Inc. (2015)
Why, just why
This is one of these movies that provoke existential questions like: who's gonna give me back those 82 minutes of life? Or, who can spend u$s 1.6mm dollars in such unnecessary movie?
The actors are not that terrible but there is a total lack of argument in the film, and it tries to build suspense around something that is never going to happen.
The main argument says that the workers are bribed into working one last night, but the right word is blackmailed.
Please go see the grass grow, and you wont't waste your time this much.
Wyrmwood (2014)
Kill the zombie, move on, kill the zombie, move on, etc...
Well, definitely not a good movie.
What I usually rescue of low-budget films, is perhaps the existence of an interesting plot, or at least some intelligent conversation. In this movie sometimes dialogs can be sympathetic, but look no further.
It's an action movie, not a horror movie. The zombies won't scare you, and they can be even funny, but the film makes up for the lack of argument with some dizzying speed, at least initially.
The girl is beautiful but don't get too excited, you will not see much.
I have read some other reviews that mention that the zombies subject is approached from another point of view, but I must disagree: it's just another zombie movie.
Yet, apparently this is an independent film, so I'll rate it a little higher than those horror high-budget films that are nothing but a waste of money.
4/10.
Alien Abduction (2014)
Again?
I don't know why, but I felt that this was going to be a different alien movie. I was wrong.
Not only it fails to be fresh and new, but also fails to entertain.
I'm starting to loathe "alien movies", that don't show a single alien on focus. There should be a "low budget warning" at the beginning of the film.
The acting is also very poor.
The only reason I kept watching it till the end, is that I wanted to see at least one alien face.
A waste of time, if you are looking for something new.
Scintilla (2014)
Pleasantly surprised
It starts like any B movie, and it can be a little boring at the beginning but continues excellently.
Nobody really knows what kind of experiments the Russians were running during the cold war, so the story feels almost real.
The general acting is very convincing. This is how real mercenaries may look like, and how they surely work.
The civil war/postwar scenes located somewhere near Russia, also contributes with the dark scenario needed to create tension.
You must know that this movie is not "The Expendables".
There were a few good surprises and it got me intrigued till the end.
It's a good job.
Lost River (2014)
Dark trip
It's a dark trip but not dark enough if you like gore and Gothic stuff.
It's some kind of a true story with a couple of misfits that give the movie an awkward environment.
There are good and convincing characters, but this is not the type of story I would have given my time to if I had knew the real plot.
Not recommended for kids nor love stories lovers.
I think that the storyline is not completely honest because... nothing of what is announced happens.
By now the movie is overrated, 6.2 it's the rating of a film I would definitely go and see.
I give it 4 stars.
The Remaining (2014)
Insuficiente
Poor plot and mediocre performances.
The story is too religious, almost turning the film into Christian propaganda.
The visual effects are not bad, but insufficient since they do not compensate the lack of argument.
The girls are cute but boring, making me think again that there is some intervention of the church in here.
It is not a thriller 'cause there is no suspense, and it is not a horror movie 'cause there is no horror scenes.
Maybe it worth 4 stars but I give it 3 because I think it is the waste of an idea that had some potential.
Splinter (2008)
A real waste of time
The script is horrible, and there isn't much that the actors could have done to improve the fun.
There is no suspense, you will always know what is going to happen. It certainly can not be called a horror film. The monster is... well I don't how it is, the cameraman seems to have Parkinson.
After the first half hour I began waiting for the movie to end. It was so disappointing that make me register here only to comment and give it two stars (not just one because a least one of the girls was hot).
If your looking for something to catch your attention, don't bother to watch to this movie, it won't.
