Dream or reality folk movie in Indian canvas(16 century villiages?)
30 January 2024
Great piece of work. A dream or reality kind of feel.

Also a movie to be enjoyed with surround sound and if possible in a theatre. Even a phone notification may ruin your experience. Sometimes you will feel like you slipped into dream and may not be able to connect with certain memories like a 4 year kid who hear some tales from grandma at bedtime. Sometimes kid finishes story in the dream. Then wake up and continue hearing.

Usage of colour is another style. It gives a lot of feelings about various Indian villages. Rustic red will give way to gray and then to even bright yellow. The textures too. The skin colour also give us the feel of different cultures of Indian subcontinent. Character names. Like Amar Chitra Katha.

Normally actions do fail on giving different touch. There are malla yudham, kalari and gun powder smashes.

Hyna sounded chamathakan and chinnan brother character and a sikandi character are not cliches. Basically LJP film while we enjoy mohanlal magic.

However, i appreciate Valibhan with some partiality to an Indian story teller. These kind of story teller reminds me Steve jobs. More than anything LJP enjoys his own life and the experiences that he gain. Audience and production might be his side plate taster while he concentratez on the full course meal that he enjoys.

However, who will brave enough to make this kind of movie with Indian scenes again? I appreciate the producer as well. Investor market fit is important for any business with or without art.

Rafeek the story writer, you have chosen best sequence and nice names.

Thanks for creating this movie in my mother tongue.

Hate can be reworked with music
11 December 2023
This powerful political drama resonates with a profound humanitarian spirit, delving into the intricate complexities of love in the face of conflict. It bravely poses the thought-provoking question: "How can we find love amidst those who pose harm? How do we reconcile with those who have seized our land?" Through a series of poignant and captivating scenes, the film intricately weaves the narrative of the Palestine conflict. It artfully juxtaposes historical propaganda, drawing compelling parallels between the tragic history of Nazi-Jewish tension during WWII and the contemporary strife between Arabs and Jews.

The movie poignantly emphasizes that true change begins when hate is set aside. It boldly asserts that transformation doesn't need to wait for the next generation; it can commence right now. Throughout, the characters deliver impactful dialogues, deeply entrenched in authentic emotion, reminiscent of the emotional depth found in the film "Omar" and even surpassing it at moments. The film beautifully captures the essence of humanity amidst conflict, delivering a compelling and emotionally charged storyline.

Set against the backdrop of Palestine, the film adeptly showcases the emotional turmoil, grappling with the human struggle amidst political turmoil. Its portrayal of characters navigating the complexities of love, loss, and ideological divides leaves a lasting impact, resonating with audiences long after the credits roll. The attention to detail, from the authentic portrayal of settings to the nuanced dialogue delivery, makes for a visually rich and emotionally gripping experience. Overall, a thought-provoking film that challenges perceptions and leaves viewers contemplating the intricacies of love, hatred, and reconciliation in the midst of conflict.

Watched this in international Film festival of Kerala iffk 2023.

women faces same issues
8 December 2023
Movie about a woman or two women.

Within the canvas of Sudan's societal divide between Arab-dominated North and black Sudanese, this film encapsulates the intricacies of conflict, rooted in racism, religion, and politics. It revolves around the struggles faced by one or two women, shedding light on poverty, parenting challenges, and the lack of intimacy in marriage. These issues are interwoven with the repercussions of a couple of well-intentioned lies.

Throughout the narrative, the women in this tale are not truly comprehended by the men who claim to love them. Even the children fail to grasp their emotional plight, evoking a sense of helplessness among the audience.

The narrative delves deep into the human condition, inviting reflection on pressing global issues often overlooked by mainstream media. Set against the backdrop of 2005 and 2010, the film meticulously crafts its era, portraying an authentic representation of culture, language, and technology. The art direction, including vehicles, gadgets, fashion, and language subtitled for the audience, is commendable.

Having watched it at IFFK 2023, the International Film Festival of Kerala, this movie is a compelling and thought-provoking exploration of the intricacies of humanity in the face of societal turmoil.

The Trendsetter
11 December 2021
Don't expect something already experienced in this movie. People may tell you that it is a comedy movie. Don't go there by expecting a kilukkam or punjabi house. It is more of an experience movie. Comedy is part or style of story telling. It is more like a treasure hunt movie. If you are like a person who love hearing stories from strangers, you will feel that. Why alcohol is still important to people in simple sense (if there is no addiction) is because of this truthful story telling abilities and gellying. Among malayalees, gents do enjoy this freedom (night out story telling gatherings with alcohol), this is more of gents centric experience for audience. Or for girls who gel with their guys. For others, sometimes cannot/may not belive the openness that portrayed by the characters.

Chidambaram sets a standard. Sometimes I doubted whether I am watching an iffk movie or not. Camera played brilliant.

Caution: Below this point, there may be some expectation clues. For those who afriad of spoilers, please don't read further though there is no standard spoiler content is here.

There are no cliche characters. Story telling emphasized it with contrast scenes of kuthuvilakku serial. However I appreciate the way it has been told to the audience. Whatever critics say, people love yo watch the serials. It is moving the economy. The stardom around it.

Ending is always a pain point for all story tellers. So, jan.e.man as well. Cliche frames we can expect. But the build up before that was excellent. It even shows how matured can be two seniors in life and love (Pranayam).

With Camera director gave a feel of the georgraphy. Is it because of Long shots? I felt this kind geometry of the building, in visaranai(the police stations). It is best when lal comes to the house. Slowly we crossed the building.

BGM is invisible. When a BGM is invisible, that is the magical touch.

Titling in design aspect showed care to the art. Especially the name. Kudos for selecting a different style of presentation. Name at the end.

Dialog/Audio clarity sometimes lacks when the director is too obsessed with local dialects in new gen movies. But for that going back to Our classic narrators like satyan Anthikad or padmarajan is also impossible. This went well. Not that difficult to catch up.

Brilliant casting has been done. It is obviously economic for the production. Skin colour played a role to communicate the profession. Whether they are Schoolmates or not it is a fact. Cinema should communicate the society's stage. So, in that way too it is brilliant. However, malayalees doesn't show any cliche racism among those friends. No exaggeration. Real cut from the society.

Acting, no special mention. All met expectation. Faisal by ganapathy is good. The lady classmate was below the level. Also, some crowd grown one frame actors. Anyway not that noticable.

Art director played well. It is invisible. That is thr greatness of that profession. Allathe marakkarkku Persian costume kodutha pole avaruthallo. Anyway that is another type art direction.

Thanks Chidambaram for setting a standard, I enjoyed it well. Both comedy, desparation, the openness of human beings.

For all modern communities, including malayalees, face depression as a social problem. People sympathise them after suicide. How can we further experiment on human relations to avoid this kind of disaster as a proactive step? I think the story abstracts this message/question.

Njan veedum parayaanu... Sajiettan ivide safe alla.

Athu correct. :)

More than movie you will know Anand Kumar that is an inspiration
20 November 2020
The important thing that movie delivered is the importance of getting education to people. As a biopic, more than a movie, it is the core message that coming from Anand kumar,(FB:@AnandKumar1super30 ) who is the pivotal character. Direction could have been better. This will be felt while watching the dramatic moments related to exam results. may be he could have used the narrator's story telling act there. Also, being a commercial movie, there could have been different methods other than cliché scenes. But I said the power of dialogs when the girl (ex) says 'I am sure that I have good in selecting men'. So, overall we cannot forget the quality. Art direction is not up to the mark though there are not serious flaws. It conveyed the time-line; that's all.

A Good work, not a movie to miss out. Especially if you are an Indian or enthusiast who wish to understand the circumstances of poor livelihood.

Like the way it glued me on screen!
12 October 2020
A good movie. True story based. 1960's set. When Ford motor company chief Henry Ford II could not simply buy everything and when he got insulted by an Italian, the game starts. Corporate lessons(brand identity, partnership, management committee), passion by technocrats and many important aspects of speed of car vs it's machinery were painted well. Also, strong bonding of humans portrayed well: Wife, child and friends. Art direction is also impressive. Then.. Christian Bale tranforms himself for each role. Even his moving silhouette itself defines a new character in each motion picture.

thrilling; do not read even this review before watching the movie!!
17 July 2020
One of the best Malayalam movies. There are flaws. but the major point is the introduction of this genre to Malayalam. Though the scene composition is limited, the director/editor could give a lot of thrilling moments to the audience. The script is an excellent part as it is made up of dialogs. But there could be more professional values to judge or clerks. However, I can't criticize much as I am seeing this kind of films the first time in Malayalam.

Suresh Gopi kind of actor has been utilized well. Prathipan acted well. but the power of the script is giving the character a lot of power to express. so I am confused to give credit to him. whether it is script or actor??? confused!

The Judge's character could have been written in a better way. like the way as he is not been influenced or no inclination to any side. But court before 1st break was excellent. Also, some acts like removing belt etc are not clear to the normal audience.

The director is not that good in influencing the acting of character Kapoor (Krishnakumar). Because sometimes the build-up of fear/anger is not well communicated to the audience. especially in the sequence of shots. See the sections to show anger was there. but the acting was really poor. not upto the mark of serious movie.

Ashokan's Medical professional character is not up to the mark. especially he failed to show situational acts like coughing well. But the way his character portrayed in the sequence is really well.

So, as a regional movie, I like it well. At the same time, there is a scope for improvements. However, it must be there for any movie.

Congrats to the director and the team.

Love and expressions
12 July 2020
The movie started with cliche scenes of stereo typed drunkard girl. And it captured the flip side of an alcoholism on expressions. Still the character and deep relations are same. Sometimes I felt like I will not watch the movie in full. but when you finished it, you will feel something.

Reality at its masterpiece

Basically after watching we cannot even realize what is real and what is cinema. Thriller at each breath. On a humanitarian angle, it shows a lot of value. Unfortunately the helpless people are portrayed much.

Power is not granted; it's been taken
28 June 2017
Shows powerful men's life. Its not just a movie for quickies. careful watching gives you glimpses of handling creatures of emotion and fear. its not exaggerated. But it is generally applicable in civilized society when leaders have emerged. Another interesting thing is usage of sound. A lot of sound and scenes are composed without dialogues. Light, silhouette, symbols of shadows are heavily used to 'frame' godfather. even you can hear a lot of family sounds without meant for any literal communication to the audience. baby cry, Italian conversations.. Bit lengthy and dialogue oriented. Only watch when you have peaceful time.

The importance of secrecy. Never think that spies are the best!
29 May 2017
A historical story line which demands a lot of attention to detail and art. Selection of the best in the class cast. Fantasy with realistic touch with scientists as characters. Salute you .. director. you did it well.

I have a different view point for a certain point. I believe to keep the essence of the story 'importance of keeping secrets', you could have taken another mystical point to conclude the story. Like the live characters do not able to find out the secrecy even at the climax. May be for a commercial success of the movie, after that point, you could have indicated some points to the audience. Anyway the villain character's reactions to his false beliefs could not be captured then. But I believe, a person who sacrificed friendship & love (and many others..I cannot be a spoiler here!) will not do this at certain point to prove something to person who is no longer important to him.

once again.. I salute you sir... a brilliant topic and a good canvas.

First Business cultured movie in malayalam
2 February 2017
Its always difficult to travel against the flow. Here Vineeth Sreenivasan took a nice step without much interfering the culture of a typical malayali. In general the word 'kachavadakkaran' is not accepted in kerala. Exceptions are there with a few. Culture level it sometimes belongs to certain families or at the most a few castes or certain regions. Boldly the lady character is telling that 'I am an Ichayathi'. It has got those kind of indications. I wish to view it is a movie of a lady : Jacob's wife. But normal clichés like 'Villianising the investor', 'negotiation is bad with him' etc are portrayed for making it consumable as a commercial movie. However we should always appreciate a director for these kind of things are as he is not publishing it as an art-movie. Hats off Vineeth.

Not a sports movie - but a family movie
2 January 2017
The leading actor Aamir Khan has already set me an exception before watching the movie. Impressive act. no doubt. Here the specialty of his act is that the impressive presentation by the director. I even forgot Aamir. I only found Mr. Mahavir Singh there. We only feel a coach there. Through Babita, we see the father there. But very rarely only we think that it is Aamir. that is an achievement of the team. Director, the actor and the stylist/physical trainer who made it possible.

It is normally difficult to find strong emotional moments in a biopic kind of story. So how to exaggerate without deviating much from the actual situation is always a challenge. Then how to screen it in a natural way? With help of art directors can create the canvas. Surely the actual hero had passion. Then delivering that passion in frame is difficult task. The children did a good job here. I even doubted whether they can deliver it.

In an Indian family father has a respect. whether all fathers give great things in return? that question is well asked and answered. Sing was just a villager. surely not that poor. But he had will to overcome that. It also show that Indian system, even anybody can blame it corrupted and bad. but a person with will can always overcome the hurdles. it is a motivating story for all fathers.

Director has a magic of conveying emotion. As audience, we had moments where which we support certain characters and based on certain values, we wanted them to be defeated at certain points. These things are only understandable in an Indian context. i guess.

if possible, we should watch the movie full family. children and parents. Fortunately i watched in that way. Really enjoyed.

There are some points for improvements. like puma shoes are used in certain shots as Aamir wearing. Those small things are negligible compared to the grand output. But noting down for the betterment of the art in the future.

Nawara defines values of lower class of Egypt
18 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Egyptian life while Mubarak was moving out from dictatorship. Nawara was a unmarried girl. She was working for a senior official's villa. She was working hard from her childhood. The political situation demanded the master's family to flew to London. Nawara has to manage master's villa. Though these circumstances are tough for her, as like any low level Egyptian citizen she was also very ambitious about this national political changes. But the movie shows the strange life that was awaiting for the poor and working class. Movie shows how hard is for a Nawara in normal life. Some interesting cultural facts have been revealed to me. Low class are very much adhering to Islamic rules. but the higher class are just not minding any Islamic rules. Their dressing styles, the values that are shown between both sexes all are different. Nawara is wearing black over coat(pardha?) and other four layers of dress where as another woman in master's house, of the same age, is even have freedom to wear a bikini swimsuit. The other aspect: values. The higher class people, relatives of the master, are pushing her from 1st floor to the stair case by pulling by her hair. It is accepted. Only one dog was only there to protect Nawara. Even after that too Nawara is patiently keeping the villa clean and secure. Even she is keeping her fiancée out from the villa to avoid potential looting/theft. Those values are really different.

public events can be personal responsibility too...
18 December 2016
A lady doctor is searching the identity of an unknown girl who is dead near to her clinic. This french movie even does not show the girl's face in a frame! But the power of the subject will haunt the audience like anything. It is not exaggerating anything even the doctor's act for heroism. She is just having perseverance in this matter. That's all. As citizen, anybody can be more responsible about a public incident. It is the message strike in my head. Even at a point of time, the police official lightly showing his ego by telling that 'doctor, we know how to deal the case well'. Still doctor is stable and confident on the matter. Missing of sex at old ages, the form of oldest profession (prostitution), the value of a doctor in a society, psychological aspects which affects the man who has unknowingly involved in the crime scene. All been discussed well.

Choice is not restricted when you age!
12 July 2015
Cool start by praising the god of speed!

The lead character is slow and steady. Surely Antony Hopkins do magic. Here this character was never trying to beg for mercy though there were many 'rules' against him(or his age).

The movie gives motivation. No doubt. But it has multiple dimension in my view. The obvious one is the determination of a slow aged man to be the fastest with with under 1000cc machine. In a scene a taxi driver asks 'Are you a deaf?"... "Oh Yea..deaf too! Please repeat". Without writing a spoiler, I can only quote this much for revealing( or exaggerating?!) the attitude of the character. That's about man. But the machine, 'Indian', has got a lot of points to tell. That touched my engineering mind. It was just an old bike with 57miles/h speed when it was born. When she got aged, she started to fly. how? That is engineering. even her center of gravity has been customized. she gets shoe polish to glitter her black tyres.... Guys, don't waste time by reading the reviews... ! just watch it. there are a lot of dimensions to think and inspire. At the end only I and Avantika(my daughter) came to know that it is based on a true story. Thrilled!

So don't feel bad about an aged man or machine. he and she can be great!

Happy viewing ...

good romance. good ending. good course for 'professionals' from 'life'.
30 June 2015
Yes the movie discusses somewhat 'normal' story-line. But the presentation made it different. Kudos to the director, editor and the actors. It shares situations like a fairy tale.surely romance is the only thing that you can make you unreal. eyes talk a lot. even the pets have a role to prove the existence of love. illogical world of love is there always. at some point the character has to ask "have you been in sales?". what a dodging which is normally cannot be fit in romancing movies. but factually it is always there in real romance. power of eyes. what else.

Being a pro, those 'professional values' to 'life values' made me to think. Time, dollar all have been touched nicely. even the way things are being presented in career are nicely portrayed. And how badly a professional confidence is disproved. there comes the different dimensions of pro and love. Love which is not mixed with $ or time can have a lot of confidence There are points which will make your eyes wet. its okay. life values are worth for a cry.

there could have more connects with his childhood stories. may be then he can find himself in more natural way. also the obvious skin tone changes must have made more gradual. am i missed it? is that really great? !! anyway I think the dark circles could have lighten. slow means more natural.

So briefly, good romance. good ending. good course for 'professionals' from 'life'. Kudos to the creators
