Don't Panic: The Truth About Population (2013)
Great Educational Movie
This movie has helped me learn how population can affect the world in many ways. It has taught the benefits of population growth and the harm population growth could cause. Though the growing population of humans in the world seems normal, it is actually causing a lot of harm to the world. There are people in the world trying to fix the problems and there are others who simply just ignore it. When the human population first began, nobody thought of a growing population as a bad thing, in fact, it was a good thing. But as the population continued to grow larger and larger, we began to notice the changes it had on the Earth. In the year 1800, the human population finally reached 1 billion. With the Industrial Revolution in the 1800s, everything changed and the human population started to grow much faster than it was before. In a little more than 100 years, the human population reached 2 billion. And as the years went on, the faster the human population grew and will continue to grow faster and faster. Most of the population growth was happening in the less developed countries, where the fertility rate was really high. In the less developed countries, there was no family planning because of lack of education, which caused many of the families in these countries to have large amounts of children. But today, the most common family size is 2 children per family. The change in the large family sizes to the small family sizes is because in the less developed countries, they are finally having all children to be educated. The government is paying the families to send their daughters to schoolsIn the schools they are now teaching all the girls the importance of family planning and why large families are bad. Large families are worse than small families because larger families tend to consume more resources than smaller families. Another factor of the lower fertility rates is the dramatic improvement in child survival due to the improvements in technology. The change in the sizes of families is one of the most important things that has happened population wise because it has helped slow down the human population growth. With the exponential growth of the human population, our resources are just not enough. We are burning away at the amount of resources that the Earth provides us with without a care as long as we get resources. Those in developed countries are producing much more pollutants than those in less developed countries because in developed countries, they have access to more vehicles and more technology, which is producing large amounts of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide that people are producing is damaging the Earth and the animals on Earth. These pollutants are leading to greater threats in the future such as climate change. The larger the amount of fossil fuels burned, the larger amount of carbon dioxide emitted. The larger the amount of pollutants emitted, the higher the climate change. The higher the climate change, the higher risk of permanent damages to the world.
