I Think Everyone Else Watched a Different Film
20 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My wife & I both really enjoyed the film. We sat down, knowing we were going to get Paul Rudd's humor mixed with a set-up story, and had absolutely no problem with it.

Was it Marvel's best? No. Neither was Ant-Man, or Ant-Man and the Wasp. These are fun stories that sit on the side and somewhat add to the rest of the Marvel Universe while being funny, thought-provoking, and entertaining.

I enjoyed seeing the (Not!)-Micronauts on the screen. I saw them in the commercials, and was excited to see a version (that was really, truly NOT the Micronauts, mind you) in the film, since they (the Not-Micronauts) come from the same realm.

If you're going in expecting something massive like Avengers, you're too spoiled. Enjoy it for what it is. Don't read other reviews until you've seen it, and then get other's takes. Seriously. :D.

Cowboy Bebop (2021)

Very Fun
21 November 2021
I've seen the English-dubbed version twice, and loved it both times. I've also worked in the film industry (local) for over 15 years, and I understand the difficulty in finding actors that both look & sound the part, and mesh well together. It's not so hard to find voice actors to do that alone.

While there are some misses that get fired here, overall, it's fairly more faithful to the source material than just about any other Anime translation from Japanese to US (anyone want to argue that? *clears throat* Dragonball Z? Anyone?)

It would be nigh impossible to find someone who both looks and acts each part, so they did the best w/ what they have, and these actors are doing everything in their power to keep it faithful. If they get to season 2, I'm REALLY excited to see if they can make Ed work. Ed was my favorite character in the Anime. Perhaps I identify more w/ Ed...?

Either way, this is a really great jumping-on point for anyone who's not seen the Anime. After you watch this, watch the original and see for yourself how great the Anime is... 😁

Another Life (2019–2021)

Sadly Entertaining
18 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm really enjoying the plot, and while the graphics aren't 'great', the show is somehow strangely entertaining - like Lost In Space (2018) vs. Alien (1979) vs. Event Horizon (1997).

It's very apocalyptic, taking a LOT of extreme takes on the idea of Climate Change, among other things...very Millennial thinking, like most other reviewers have noted.

There are quite a number of in-the-moment plot holes, where someone will say something, and you're thinking, 'didn't they just deal with that a moment ago and say something completely different?'

The main actress is NOT likeable, and is VERY unrelateble. (Possible SPOILER) She was cheating on her husband...? (It turns out she wasn't - but it's hard to figure out when exactly the make-out session w/ her co-worker was occurring in the story line.) She kills her second-in-command? I certainly didn't want to see the hero or heroine cheating on their spouse, or intentionally killing another human, but more than that I don't understand her basic motivation at all...

Beyond that, if you can sit back and relax and watch the show without putting too much thought into all that bunk, you're pretty much good to go with a Science Fiction show that delivers plenty of Sci-Fi, horror, and adventure.

Oh, and I'm still waiting to see why it's called 'Another Life' -- sounds more like an existential time-travel love story than a Sci-Fi tale.

Stargate SG-1: Beneath the Surface (2000)
Season 4, Episode 10

Fun, but Not Original in Any Way
6 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
While I really like this episode, it's really a copy of the Star Trek: Voyager episode, The Chute, which aired Sept. 18, 1996, about 4 years prior. That's not to say that there's anything wrong w/ that, or that there's anything wrong w/ the fact that both episodes hearken back to the Fritz Lang classic 1926/7 silent film, "Metropolis".

The difference between both episodes and the old movie is that the main characters have had their memories covered (obviously not wiped...).

While "the Chute" was controversial in its time, (a standard for Star Trek since the concept's inception), this episode is nothing new.

And I always think of this episode as having some of the cheesiest dialogue of any Stargate SG-1 episode. The lines were fine, I just don't feel they were delivered very well - by ANY of the lead characters. But, that's just my opinion...

I always love Stargate SG-1, and while this isn't my favorite episode, it's definitely good to see their take on the classic concept.

Fun Entertainment

Warning: Spoilers
So, I read a LOT of posts, and many said they had some problems with the film. So, I'll go over a couple of their major issues and give my perspective.

1. The alien ships hop around on the water... - So, what. I think it added a more human element to the story. Does every alien race that comes to take over our planet have to have giant hovering ships? These creatures were just like us; no special anti-gravity devices. The come, land in the ocean, and do their best with the four little ships they have. Props for trying. (The one issue I kind'a had was, hey, these ships just traveled thousands of light years as a preemptive invasion force through insane amounts of space debris, and one of their ships is taken out by a small satellite...? Go figure... But, whatever. Who knows how many they originally sent that got destroyed by space dust along the way...) 2. The aliens only try to kill things that turn red on their sensors... - Understandable. They got here with a limited amount of resources, and the whole idea is to conserve as much as possible until their armada arrives. Makes sense to me. Take out only what you have to - anything that may be a threat, and move on. Why roads? Because they can be used to move troop lines! Duh! I can see why they thought this was a good idea.

So, yeah, some of the acting was a little lame. Oh, well. They can't all be awesome actors. Some of you, I'd like to see you do better. Just enjoy it.

One thing I was really proud of was their display of the American flag, and their tribute to the old salts of our Military. Good job, Universal/Hasbro/etc. Let's show a little respect.

Yeah, there were a few minor plot-holes, but overall, it was fun, entertaining, and if you go not expecting too much, you can be surprised at how much good you can see in it. Over-analyzing is a great way to ruin any movie-going experience.

What gives me any right to say all this? Well, I'm a film school graduate for one, and while not everyone who has a Bachelor's degree in film is necessarily a good movie critic, I do understand what it takes to make a good film.

Just relax. Go have some fun with a few friends. Laugh. Enjoy.

Great show, from what I recall
13 August 2011
I was only 13 when this show came on, and I was absolutely fascinated by it ... mostly the robot. I didn't care about the characters otherwise. I just wanted to see that cold metallic creature run around and do stuff. I think it inspired me somehow. (??) Anyway, I have a vague recollection of the show, especially the first or second episode, so I can't really say the show itself was good, but I can say when I was watching it, it grabbed my attention, if for no other reason than a really cool bot. I wish I could find the eps and download them or buy them on DVD. Sadly, I don't think there's enough interest in it to get the copyright owners to do anything with it. Oh, well. Maybe my memories would be better than the actual show anyway.

Chameleons (1989 TV Movie)
8/10
From what I can remember, a great show!
25 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS OK, so I was only 13 in 1989, but I'm pretty sure I was older (like 16 or 17) when I actually saw this show over at a friends house. I was babysitting their two youngest, and the kids wanted to go outside and play, but I couldn't. This show just drew me in (my imagination, more than anything). I don't remember any dialogue; just a handful of scenes, (Possible spoiler) and the car that changed colors/license plates, and the "invisibility" cloak were so cool! I'd love to find a copy of this so I could watch it again. I always thought it was a movie... I don't know if the show was acted or directed well, though. I was too young to understand those things. I Really want to see it again! ______________________________________________________ I recently found the full show on a DVD copied from an old video cassette. It was pretty much what I remembered, except for the license plate thing, which I guess I just made up in my head somewhere along the way. The show is fun, if a bit boring in many parts, reminding me, sadly, of some of the worst episodes of "Knight Rider". However, I could totally see this going some place if it had been continued. There's some cheesy romance stuff, and some bad lines, but overall I had as good a time or better than I did as a teen watching it.
