Give it a chance!
22 January 2024
After everything I've been reading regarding this movie, including complaints about its length, etc., I must say this was a wonderful movie! I've done a lot of reading about the actual history of the events, and I give kudos to Scorsese and everyone involved for sticking to the truth. I also want to give a shout out to Leonardo DiCaprio's performance. He has not been nominated for any awards for this movie (it's mainly revolved around DiNero and Lily Gladstone). But once again, DiCaprio has proven how he is a superb actor. His range is astonishing ... compare this performance to what he did in "Django Unchained". I knew the first time I saw him in a movie ("what's eating Gilbert grape") that this was an actor who would have a magnificent career. I highly recommend this movie!

Tales from the Loop: Control (2020)
Season 1, Episode 5

Watch the series as a whole to understand
19 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, the series is slow in pacing (for all episodes). But they are all connected. If you don't watch the 2nd episode (Transpose) you won't understand how or why this family falls apart (as a result of what happens to their only son in episode 2). As a matter of fact, in the very first episode, you will see the young girl walking through the woods with a young boy (Cole who is in several episodes) and they pass by a robot. After they pass by, you see the robot turn and look at them. The irony is that the robots consciousness is from Cole's brother (As shown in episode two "transpose").

The key to this series, and how well it was written and constructed, is to follow each episode, and relate back to previous episodes. It is a true test of intelligence and consciousness. I so wish this had a second season.

And Just Like That...: Alive! (2023)

What happened to these characters?
7 July 2023
I had truly hoped that by season two, these characters would resemble who they used to be. But each episode, in my opinion, just gets worse. I do not recognize Miranda at all. I don't have a problem with her being involved in a lesbian relationship. But they have literally made her character stupid.

The idea that Bitsy VonMuffling would send a d*ck pic to Carrie (and that Carrie wouldn't have immediately deleted it) was beyond belief.

And the fact that Carrie would have immediately given money to the magazine based on her embarrassment over that picture... Also, unbelievable.

I think that the reason many people are excited about the upcoming, albeit short, cameo by Kim Cattrell as Samantha, is a result of her commitment to the character of Samantha and her unwillingness to continue with the beratement of that character (I speak specifically of the second movie, where they turned her character into a shrew due to menopause... Shame on all the female producers for that).

I was willing to give me a second season. I shot on the basis that sometimes the first season needs to find its way. Well, we're end of the fourth episode of the second season and I see absolutely no redeemable qualities.

Tom Jones (2023)

Why?
5 May 2023
I'm sorry... I couldn't even finish the first episode. Why bother trying to re-create the wonderful movie version? If you're going to try to do that, at least cast it with fascinating actors. The biggest problem I had was the incredibly insipid portrayal of the lead character, Tom Jones. A new production should At least try to duplicate the fun loving, boisterous, joyful Tom Jones as portrayed by Albert Finley. Instead, I only saw a morose young man.

This was my biggest problem... But let's go onto others. Sophie Weston's father (in this version now her grandfather) was hilariously portrayed as a drunken, loud mouth in the movie by Hugh Griffith. Sadly, he has a stiff upper lip, albeit with a smile, in the TV miniseries.

If anyone continues to watch the series and thinks otherwise, please let us know if it got any better.

Watch the original!
18 September 2022
I agree with most of the user reviews here... This version gives away the plot twist way too early. Also, it is a very watered down take on the original movie. It tries to bring around tension with somewhat gory scenes that all turn out to be dreams. The original wasn't like that at all!

The original was tense, on the edge of your seat watching, with superb performances by all the actors.

If you want to watch the Austrian original, which does have subtitles, look for it on the free app Tubi. That's where I saw it and rate it a superior movie.

I don't know why the filmmakers bothered with making this film.

Interesting but ....
25 August 2022
Once again... An interesting movie, great acting, but I could not understand most of the dialogue. Even if I put the volume up to 100%... Even if I chose to listen to the volume through my Bose system... I could not hear, let alone understand, what the actors were saying.

To all the filmmakers out there... I have no problem with my hearing! As a matter of fact, it's rather heightened due to the diminishment of another sense. It is truly a problem with the filmmaking... Either the sound engineer or... May I see it? The insistence of younger actors "mumbling".

I beg these actors please, speak up! You would never, ever, make it in live theater if you spoke this way.

Unsatisfying!
29 April 2022
I am someone who really enjoys unusual movies (from the 1972 "Private Parts" to the 1999 Japanese movie "The Audition"). This is listed as a psychological drama. And though I give the director credit for trying some thing, in the end I think it failed. I will start with the secondary story about a mother and her 12 year old daughter that, in my opinion, has absolutely nothing to do with the majority of the movie. It adds nothing, it explains nothing. Why these segments were added is a total mystery to me.

As far as the main topic, again NOTHING is explained in any way. Not the motive for the boys actions, nor for the family's inevitable reaction at the end. I don't want to give any spoilers, but seriously, this movie is not worth the effort.
