What Do We Know About Refugees? (2022)
Great documentary showing a different perspective of refugees
With our current media outlets, it is easy to get caught up in some of the politics surrounding refugees. This documentary did a great job highlighting what should be the most important part, the human aspect. Living in the US I am reminded about how fortunate we are that we have generally not experienced some of the hardships, tragedies and even death that so many of these refugees have. This film sheds light on many areas that are not highly publicized (human aspect, organizations assisting refugees, how refugees are contributing to society, etc.). It shares a powerful message and I hope more people are able to see the different perspectives that this documentary captures.
Poor Herman (2022)
Comedy meets horror
I am normally apprehensive about horror movies but this movie had comedy mixed in as well which was great. The plot was interesting and kept me engaged, while also touching on some of the challenges/issues facing a lot of the youth today. Despite the comedy, the film shows some of the butterfly effects that words or negative actions can cause on people. As the events unfolded, you got flashbacks that continued to reveal the events that caused a profound transformation in one of the main characters. This film had a good mix of everything I like to see in a movie and I look forward to seeing what work the cast creates in the future.
