Battle: Los Angeles (2011)
How could it be spoiled?
I like Eckhart for starters. He acted well in Rabbit Hole for example and he is the American hero type for sure. Michelle Rodrigues knows how to act as well - remember the Avatar. When I saw the trailer I thought - it is a movie I gotta see in cinema. Thanks to the reviews, I saved 15 bucks. Everything except the idea is bad. It's could not be compared even to the Independence Day. Bad dialogues, bad acting, bad story. I gave it a 5 for enthusiasm of spending the whole bunch of money for no result. But I wish there was something to remember the movie for. I'm really interested why Eckhart took part in this film. Has he ever read the scenario?
Unthinkable (2010)
Whatever it takes
Would you pay the price of one innocent baby's life to eliminate all the evil in this world? Kill him for the greater good? This is the question written by Dostoevsky in The Karamazov brothers. So is the message of this movie. Where are the limits of the contemporary people? Of those who's been raised in democracy and those who's been tortured by their governors and want no other fate. The greatest country of all times comes to the Middle East and finds itself so vulnerable. So it is shown in this movie: the one who really lives - kills for his ideals and the others so powerful are useless to make him step back. I can't understand what makes this people die for such a price? Heaven promised or what? But you can see what would happen if there's no more Governments. And it is not the Era of Mercy.
House M.D.: Broken (2009)
Fine start!
Mrs Jacobs have already directed the episode with the hostages in the Princeton Plainsborough. I had been waiting for it eagerly but it was disappointing story with fake emotions and intrigue. I suppose that was a worst episode of House. Therefore I was worried about this opening but it overcome my expectations. True nerve, true recovering. Complicated solutions to House's issues. And it doesn't look like a fake. Script is just fine. I found the relief and a happiness when it was over. Come on people, House was so low on his way of degenerating to a narco- jerk. We need to see him rising because his sense of humor and his ability to save people remain with him and the vicodin is (temporarily???) gone. I'm satisfied.
The Ugly Truth (2009)
Fun, Love and Happiness!
This movie delivers everything you expect from a romantic comedy! Dozens of fun scenes and a good chemistry between Buttler and Heigel. Lots of jokes: adult and universal. The Buttler's character is absolutely positive and charming. I guess we all want to be that kind of a man: straight, confident, sincere. And Heigel's character is so real with all those issues about the relationships and frankly vulnerability. Of course, life is much more complicated but leaving the theater you feel yourself happy and mighty in the questions of fascination. Thanks to the writers, the story doesn't fall in dynamics and doesn't bore you until the credits.
Gamer (2009)
Good but could be better
The idea is good and the performances of Buttler and M.C. Hall is just fine. At the same time, this shaking style of shooting provokes epilepsy. The movie loses to those who love Counter Strike and to those who never played. The gameplay could be detalised and expanded as well as the lifestory of the Kable (maybe in a gladiator-way. Same thing about the interaction between the player and a character. It could be more dramatic. I'm sure there has been lots of chances of moving this story deep emotionally and entertaining at the same time. Still it's worth seeing. The final fight is thrilling and driving. And our future is shown precisely: built on seven sins.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
The Russian review
Yesterday, right before I went to see this movie, I've read about the "first 100% failure by Tarantino"... Now when it's over, I totally agree.
There's my few notes: Pitt plays middle-American cowboy and does it in exceeding stupidity. He doesn't fit there anyhow.
Tarantino knows nothing about the Jew hatred to the Nazis. It looks absolutely artificial and in the same time exaggerated. I'm sure that Jews themselves are ashamed of the way they were shown in there.
Two gags isn't enough for such a movie.
Those on screen signs and fonts used were good for Bill and for Bill only.
This movie isn't about anything: not war nor Nazi, not death nor beauty...
I'm sure Tarantino himself knows it better than we do...
Things I liked: First scene is almost good. Christoff Walz plays very well. Soundtrack is always good.
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Fresh, quite fresh picture
I don't have too much to say but this particular movie does make it's effect. Everything is dosed right. A bit of psychology is followed by a bit of action. Sounds and clips fill you with an incredible (right as Hulk is) freshness. I was swallowing every inch of it. Remember the scene where Bruce hides from Beth. It's a shot from real comics. And the first appearance of that second monster Blonsky is done like Cloverfield - makes you participate in this chaos. 10 out of ten for comics done right. Mr. Norton doesn't know how to play fake does he? He fixes even cartoon characters easily. And Mrs Tyler is all way long gentle natural and simply beautiful. I hope we'll see some more adventures of this unlikely likable hero. P.S. Why do they choose such unnatural surnames for the Russians. We don't have no Blonskies here. We're not pollacks ))
