Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
AN INFLUENCIAL AND IMPORTANT COMIC BOOK MOVIE
This movie is remarkable. It is an amazing continuation to Into the Spider Verse. It pushes the boundaries of animation movies and comic book movies. Just as the first film redefines what we imagine is possible with animation, Across the Spider-Verse swings in to raise every bar already set by the first. Yes, the cast, crew, and writers are amazing, but those involved with the animation deserve every accolade imaginable.
The plot is captivating. The amount of detail on the characters is impressive. Miles Morales is a well written character and his story is incredible. This movie further builds and moves his story forward while giving Gwen a compelling character arc. Her backstory is sad and some people can find her relatable. Hailee Steinfeld's voice acting performance as Gwen was great. Moreover, it is impressive how well this film focuses on character dynamics. It explores important themes such as family, parenting, friendships and relationships. It does those stuff while being disguised as a epic blockbuster that spans the multiverse. Granted, unlike Multiverse of Madness, it does span numerous universes and comes up with some brilliant rules for all of the madness.
The newly introduced characters were great. Miguel O Hara is an antagonist to Miles but his motivations and ideologies are clear. It felt so fun and nice to see Peter B. Parker again. His newfound philosophy of life was nice to see. The diversity in this multiversal movie was impressive, it is very unique. Seeing different variations of Spiderman was so cool. The first act is essentially showing us where our two main characters are now and how life has been since the madness of the first. This act is much smaller in scale than anticipated, but it serves the story beautifully because it is much more intimate than expected. Miles is maturing, Gwen is debating on whether or not to confront her fate, and The Spot is just trying to be a good nemesis.
Spot is the main villain. He is a well written villain. His purpose is clear and as an audience we can understand him. What he went through was sad which makes his motivations understandable. Jason Schwartzman does an amazing job with voice acting. As the characters travel to the multiverse the rules and mission are established. The dialogue is excellent. Throughout the course of 2 hours many variants of Spiderman spoke lines that are both well written and well voiced.
The animation sequences are so cool; it is very unique, colorful and gorgeous to look at. The color grading is so impressive and very stylistic. The distinguished style for each world/ Spiderman variant is top tier. Different characters have different body parts in different frame rates with different looking animation styles. What this movie did with one well recognised superhero and his infinite versions is stupendous. Just like the previous film it feels as if a comic book movie came to life but this they just do it better. Seeing various version of this beloved character is so exciting. This movie was high quality from the beginning till the end. The Easter eggs and cameos are the cherry on top. The directors and writer were creative showing us the audience different variants of animated Spider people but the little glimpses of our beloved live action Spiderman played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield was joyful and nostalgic.
This comic book movie is well balanced, it introduces the people to more and more variants hence going into multiversal madness in one way but it does that while movie the story forward in a compelling way thus making it feel earned. The characters have emotional weight to them, the character depth is brilliant. The final few scenes keep you in the edge. Gwen's character arc gets something that can be called a conclusion in some ways. The journey Miles has been on in huge and the cliffhanger ending was perfect. It was perfect because of how well they have told the story so far, the cliffhanger ending just leaves the fans so excited to watch the next sequel (Spiderman: Beyond the Spider Verse).
Spiderman: Across the Spider Verse can go down as one of the best comic books movies while one of the best first viewing experiences. With its breathtaking artistic, visually perfect animation style and profound ability to depict emotions, this film weaves a web of brilliance that captivates audiences from start to finish. It is an examples as to why Marvel movies and comic book movies are cinema and not just theme park rides while also showcasing how much potential an animated movie has.
Game of Thrones (2011)
Game of Thrones is game changing.
Game of Thrones is such a addictive show as it has a magnificent story; it's compelling and intriguing. It was so well written and well crafted. The characters are amazing, this series impressively give some of their backstories while also giving every one of them great character arks. This show is able to focus on many stories and characters in every episodes. The acting is impeccable. The CGI is used very well, dragons and mythological characters are so life like. The cinematography is gorgeous, it is the best cinematography that I have seen in a TV show. The action is everything I hoped; it is brutal, fast paced and blood squirting.
