There Will Be Blood (2007)
Is this for real?
I mean... the movie is downright stupid, there's little to no sense or reason at all for most of what happens. At best is just a boring story about a business man. Apparently, according to people who actually liked this movie, the guy is supposed to be representing hatred and greed, and he's also supposed to have a great performance. Well, I didn't feel any of it... I felt like I was watching some old fool having unreasonable reactions to the little important stuff happening. Even if there is good acting, good scenarios, good soundtrack, there's still lousy plot and even worse script, and without those, the others are just a waste. On top of it all, you have to wait 150 minutes to discover there's no big ending that makes this whole nonsense worth it. It's just as mediocre as it is. 5 stars because it sucks, 3 stars because it could've sucked in 90 minutes instead of 150.
No Country for Old Men (2007)
You need to make an effort to like it
When it ended, I was the only one in a crowded theater with accepting it was a decent movie, everyone was just hoping they would have just gone to another movie. And I find it interesting because I'm a movie aficionado and I make an effort beyond regular public to understand the whole movie. It certainly has bright and cool moments, metaphors and stuff to reflection about, but overall it's extremely boring to follow. Most characters don't make any sense at all, and they seem to be mocking Texas people more than developing a plot. And guess what, it could have been developed much better, but instead it just ends and they focus in some subplot no one cares about. I seriously doubt everyone enjoys this movie at an average of 8.5/10 (03/11/2008). Maybe the rating is there because only aficionados care enough to rate a movie on an internet site. This is definitely not that good. I also have a theory some people make an extra effort to like it because it won some awards and some respected critics liked it, so they want to get along. Then, and only then, you can put aside all the flaws and unnecessary boring parts of this movie, you can see it as a great movie. For me, this is not acceptable. The movie is just OK for me, the rest of my family thinks is one of the worst they've seen.
Wanda to kyozô (2005)
The Bad Review about Shadow of the Colossus
Alright, I just found this game rather bad, and I'm only posting this because I was surprised not to find any other bad comment. And I can't be the only one who doesn't like this game.
First of all, graphics and music are fine, but unless they're awful, I hardly care about these when I'm playing a game. The scenarios and music get old after 5 minutes, and you have to stay there for like 10 hours.
Some people say no enemies beside Colossus makes this unique, I say it makes it boring and it's just the result of a lazy/cheap design. Even the Colossus are basically all the same, and really easy to defeat. I can't think of a way to make this killing Colossus more diverse, but I just believe it's a bad idea to make a game just about that. Oh wait... is not about that, is about looking for them, yes! For every enemy, you will spend about half hour looking for it, and 3-5 minutes to defeat it. Every part of this quest is plain boring and repetitive.
I'm the kind of guy who gets really fanatic with any game and goes around it multiple times, I can't get enough of video games, I never get bored. I must say I couldn't finish this game once. It is the only one game I own, I'm not playing and I haven't finished. And it's 1/10th time consuming of the average game I play... is that boring.
And also, the horse is really stupid.
Hostel: Part II (2007)
Disappointing and uninteresting
So... what's this movie about? It began as if it was gonna continue the first part, but it's actually the same story with different characters from a different perspective. Personally I think is a less interesting perspective. This is not scary, not interesting, has nothing new and actually shows some sick attitudes you can't identify with. I was expecting a much better movie since the first one also has bad reviews but I liked it so much... this one stinks. I believe they could've done so much more with the plot, so it's quite disappointing. The only reason why you'd need to watch this is because you liked the first one and you want to know what this is, just like me. But I'm quite sure you'll be let down. I'm sorry if this is too much a comparison, but this movie is nothing by itself.
Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma (1975)
Disgusting, awful
I believe there's too many good critics on this film because the rest of the people are just too disgusted and embarrassed to even look at the cover or even search for the title on IMDb. Do you want a bad sensation in your stomach and nauseas for a couple of days? This is your movie. There's nothing new or educative, it's just a lot of sick stuff. If this movie really shows you something you didn't expect to be "real" even in someone's mind, then that's too bad, but I assure you there's plenty of better ways to see that than watching this...
I rented this one because it said it was the most disgusting movie ever and I wanted to confirm it... well, it's worse than you are thinking right now. That bad. No one deserves to watch this.
But I guess if you're like me you're still gonna rent it, be disgusted, feel bad for doing it, and at least talk about it a couple of times.
Death Proof (2007)
Out of context
I believe this movie was probably a success as the first part of the Grindhouse project. And it was probably made for that purpose and not as a lone movie. The fact that we're watching it at home out of context as so, makes this movie quite poor, but because we're missing the good parts of it. I recommend this movie, if you are with a bunch of friends and talking a lot, maybe talking a lot and eating popcorn while watching it in a long session movie followed by Planet Terror. As it was meant to be watched. And I believe if you revive the feeling of the grind house, this movie is great.
I have a hard time rating low a Tarantino movie, because I like his style and it is there, but I have to admit that analyzing this as a movie and comparing it with other movies with the common parameters makes it very bad as you would read by most reviewers on this site. I rather recreate or imagine the context and enjoy the movie.
Sicko (2007)
Excellent, but cheesy
The movie really has a message, mostly directed at Americans or citizens of countries with a similar Medical Insurance system. I realize Michael Moore put a lot of work into it, and that is probably really hard to release this kind of movie in the US. I really hope he's going somewhere because what happens there is really evil. It's also easy too watch, it means it's well directed and you don't get bored easy... it's perhaps a bit too long, but worths watching. Specially for those whose this information is new for. It's a shame, that he faces each problem with extremism and everything has to be so cheesy. Everyone on the US was sad, everyone in any other country had a smile... is not real, and because is it not, some people wont trust the content of this movie. But perhaps cheesiness is what takes for Americans to pay attention... it ruins the movie for me.
Hostel (2005)
Awesome
That's one hell of an idea they got on this movie. I think I mostly liked it because I thought I had the whole plot figured out and in the end I didn't, and I really liked the idea. The movie also develops itself very quick so is not boring, I hardly noticed time passing and I had a few laughs alone, which is always a good sign (you don't usually laugh when you're alone). I think it's a controversial movie and not everyone will like it. You'll like it less if you're expecting a Tarantino movie, which isn't. And maybe is not the classic horror movie you watch with your girlfriend, but the one you watch with your friends. It gets you thinking because you have to wonder how unreal the movie is. Most horror movies are not supposed to be real, what actually gives the creeps about Hostel is that what happens there might be true for all you know.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Confirmed: we'll kill your dream story
When I came out from the movies after seeing this one, I was upset and annoyed like mad. I don't think any movie could've achieved that. This was supposed to be an adaptation of the story we used to read when kids. It was supposed to be beautiful and makes us happy. On the first movie they just skipped some really important parts and focused the plot on some random stuff they invented. On this movie, they confirmed they had no intentions on coming back to the regular plot... they stole our story and modified it for the masses. This one is specially bad because it just starts ignoring the important aspects of the story and starts cutting content for no reason. The movie is also extremely short and when it finishes you're wondering, well, what did just happen, did they really end it here? Did they really miss all that? Where are the happy parts where I can rest and smile for a while? All the 3 movies have this issue, everything's wrong all the time... this movie is not an exception, and it shouldn't be like that. This is not Lord of The Rings. Want a good story? Go buy the books, spit at this blasphemy. If you don't know the story, this movie will probably be OK... maybe a 6, the book is a hundred stars out of ten, and they killed it. But this was supposed to be an adaptation, and it's a really bad one. The only reason it has 2 stars is because well... graphics, money. I can't argue that... You can see cool stuff like Ents, but I could've seen that on a 3 minutes video and I would not feel disgusted like I do now only by remembering this thing.
Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
Long and boring
I'm just writing because I disagree with every review I've read. This movie is really really long and it gets boring as hell. I actually fell asleep after the first two hours and had to watch it the next day. I love this kind of stories, and I don't like when I see a good argument implemented badly. Also, Orlando Bloom doesn't seem to catch up well with being the main character... lacks charisma maybe. Also, the movie didn't make me feel anything, and as for the story, the information it gave was vague and I could get it more precisely and better by reading 15 minutes. So it's long, boring, doesn't transmit feelings nor knowledge. I don't plan on watching this movie ever again, and it was a bad experience when I did watch it. The 5 stars are only because is history, and that's always fun to watch... but just once and with popcorn, chocolate and maybe someone at your side, so you can chat while the movie goofs around.
